Transport Scotland has launched the procurement process for the fifth contract in the A9 Dualling Programme, covering the Pitlochry to Killiecrankie section.
A contract notice published this month set out details of the £205m scheme, priced at Q2 2025 levels, with contract award expected in autumn 2026.
Dualling works on this stretch of the A9 are due to be completed by the end of 2030.
This is the third section of the programme to be procured using Transport Scotland’s amended NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract, which has been designed to share risk more evenly between client and contractor.
In April Construction News revealed that the job would be put out to tender this month.
The Pitlochry to Killiecrankie contract will involve the construction or upgrade of nine bridges, including a new crossing of the River Tummel next to the existing Tummel Bridge, and new structures beside the Clunie Bridge over Loch Faskally and over the Highland Mainline Railway.
It will also include measures to improve active travel infrastructure, such as walking and wheeling crossings and access enhancements along routes including the Rob Roy Way.
An online industry briefing held in July provided early engagement with prospective bidders ahead of the notice’s publication.
The latest tender follows confirmation of a preferred bidder for the adjacent Tay Crossing to Ballinluig contract. Wills Bros Civil Engineering has been named for that package.
Once works on the Pitlochry section are complete, around 50 per cent of the route between Perth and Inverness will be dual carriageway.
Transport Scotland project manager Joel Morrison said the scheme would improve road resilience and active travel links, while Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said the contract notice marked further progress against the government’s A9 delivery plan, published in 2023.
