A 33-year-old pregnant Indian-origin woman was killed in Sydney after a BMW allegedly rear-ended a Kia, pushing it into her as she crossed the street with her family.

An Indian-origin woman who was eight months pregnant died after being struck during a two-car collision in Sydney’s Hornsby suburb.
The victim, 33-year-old Samanvitha Dhareshwar, was walking with her husband and their three-year-old son when she was fatally hit on the evening of November 14, according to reports from People.

New South Wales Police said the family had been crossing George Street around 8 pm when a Kia slowed to let them pass near the entrance of a car park.
Assistant Commissioner David Driver told the media that a white BMW then allegedly slammed into the Kia from behind, pushing it forward and striking Samanvitha.
“As a result of that impact, she’s now deceased,” Driver said, noting that the collision also claimed the life of her unborn child.
He described the scene as deeply distressing for first responders.
“Any serious crash is very confronting. This is a terrible, terrible story.”
The BMW was being driven by a 19-year-old man, while a 48-year-old man was behind the wheel of the Kia.
Neither driver suffered injuries, though both were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing, media reports stated.
Police arrested the 19-year-old at a home in Wahroonga shortly after midnight. He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a fetus, death of a pregnant woman.
In the days since the tragedy, tributes have been placed at the crash site, including flowers and handwritten notes.
The grief has been particularly acute within Sydney’s Indian community, which shared a widely circulated social media statement mourning Samanvitha and her unborn child.
“A young life, a mother, and an unborn baby, gone far too soon,” the post read, calling the family’s loss “unimaginable” and expressing solidarity with her husband and child.
“A family shattered. A community heartbroken,” it mentioned.
