Amitabh Bachchan, who described Piyush Pandey as his most amiable friend and guide, offered his heartfelt condolences to the legendary ad man on Saturday.

Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, respectively, were present at the funeral of legendary advertising guru Piyush Pandey in Mumbai on Saturday. Among the film fraternity, Manoj Pahwa and Ashok Pandit were also part of the gathering. Piyush Pandey’s sister, singer-actress Ila Arun, greeted the guests with Namaste. 70-year-old Piyush Pandey had been suffering from pneumonia for a few weeks and succumbed to it on Friday. The video showing the arrival of Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan went viral on social media, which showed Amitabh emerging from Piyush Pandey’s residence. While he was outside waiting, he had a conversation with Ishita Arun, the daughter of Ila Arun and the niece of Piyush Pandey. A little later, they made a gesture of greeting the people present there with folded hands. After paying their respect, the father and son left in different cars.

Amitabh Bachchan was very distressed by the death of Piyush Pandey and said so publicly. He called him his most amiable friend and a guide. He said, “A creative genius .. a most amiable friend, and guide .. has left us ..No words to express our grief ..Piyush Pandey, passed away this morning .. The creative works left behind by him shall ever be an eternal emblem of his immeasurable creativity. Shocked! Speechless!!”

Piyush Pandey was regarded as one of the top and most revered advertisers in India. Some of the most unforgettable ads that have been produced by him include Asian Paints’ “Har Khushi Me Rang Laaye,” Cadbury’s “Kuch Khaas Hai,” and Fevicol’s renowned “Egg Film.” He collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan on two campaigns regarding polio and the Gujarat government’s “Khushboo Gujarat Ki” campaign twenty years back. In 2016 he was conferred with the Padma Shri and in 2024 the “Legend Award” was given to him at the London International Awards. In 2004 he was the first Asian to be the head of the Cannes Lions jury. The acting profession seduced him in 2013 with Shoojit Sircar’s film Madras Cafe.
