Anderson Silva announces new career despite shock future fight update at 50-years-old

Anderson Silva is going to take on a brand new career at the age of 50 – but he still wants to keep fighting.

Back in October of 2020, legendary middleweight champion Silva was forced to hang up his gloves in the UFC octagon in front of an empty arena at the age of 45. But he made the switch to the boxing ring, eventually parlaying a run of wins into a fight with Jake Paul.

And after three years out of action, he returned to the ring tonight with a stunning knockout victory over fellow UFC legend Tyron Woodley. He dropped the ex-welterweight champion in round two before the bout was quickly waved off, and he called for a third fight with Chris Weidman.

After he turned 50 back in April, one would have been forgiven for thinking that Anderson Silva’s next fight might be his last. But in a short-notice clash with Tyron Woodley, he rolled back the years with a highlight reel knockout of a fellow legend.

And while he still has plans to fight again, Silva told Ariel Helwani in the ring following his win that he has plans to undergo Police Academy training to join the Beverley Hills Police Department. “I’ll keep doing it,” he said in his post-fight interview.

“I go back to work right now and start my Police Academy to Beverley Hills PD.” Silva has lived in California since moving there from Brazil during the prime of his UFC career almost two decades ago, and wants to “give back” to his newfound community.

Anderson Silva wants Chris Weidman fight after KO in comeback

During that same post-fight interview, Silva told Helwani that he wants to finally get a chance at revenge against Chris Weidman. The pair were due to have a trilogy back in November when Paul was slated to fight Gervonta Davis, but an injury in camp forced Weidman out of the new date.

Silva had looked unbeatable during his iconic and record-breaking run at middleweight before facing the All American back in July of 2013 at UFC 162. But his cocky showboating style cost him as he was caught and knocked out.

In their rematch, Silva broke his own leg when throwing a kick at Weidman, snapping it in half in one of the most infamously gruesome moments in UFC history. Now, with both men years past their prime, he wants one last chance to make things right.

“For Spiderman, who’s your Venom? For me it’s Chris Weidman,” Silva continued. “I know you hurt your arm but I want to do it. Say hi to your family.”
