The Los Angeles Angels and Washington Nationals recently agreed on a trade that would send two big league relievers, Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia, to the Angels in a move that makes it seem like the Angels will be buyers ahead of the trade deadline.
MLB’s Mark Feinsand recently noted this following the deal.
“The Angels appear to be buyers, which likely takes Taylor Ward, Tyler Anderson, Kenley Jansen, Luis Rengifo and others off the trade market (if they were ever actually on it). The Angels are going for it, trying to get Mike Trout back to October for the first time since 2014,” Feinsand wrote in a post to Twitter/X on Wednesday afternoon.
The Angels’ decision to buy would wipe four or five names off the trade market, which could impact the entire league.

Taylor Ward and Kenley Jansen were seemingly the best trade chips the Angels have. But with the team opting to add relievers on Wednesday, it’s very unlikely the front office will entertain any kind of offers for Ward or Jansen. The Angels are seemingly pushing for a postseason spot.
The San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Mets seemed like perfect fits for Ward, but that’s unlikely now. The only chance of Ward being moved is if one of these teams is willing to give up big league talent in a deal between contenders.
Practically every contender could have made a move for Jansen, but he’s seeming off the board, too.
The Angels just shook up the baseball world with around 24 hours to go before the deadline passes.
