Andhra Pradesh government will be implementing a universal health scheme providing health cover to all from April 1, 2026.
In a review meeting of the Health Department in Amaravati on Friday, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to work on the modalities to roll-out the previously-announced scheme.
According to official data presented at the review meeting, 12 lakh claims were being settled through NTR Seva Trust at present, at an expenditure of ₹330 crore per month.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to focus on preventive and curative systems in public health to reduce expenditure on the health sector.
Medical colleges
On the medical colleges, Naidu said the government would retain the jurisdiction and supervision of the medical colleges, including those set up in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
The tender process will be completed by next month for new medical colleges proposed to be set up in Adoni, Markapuram, Madanapalli and Pulivendula. Naidu directed the officials to speed up the process to complete the setting up of medical colleges to render best health care in rural areas too.
Each medical college was allotted 50 acres to develop a medical college and hospital in 25 acres and remaining 25 acres would be earmarked for para medical, nursing, dental care, wellness, Ayurveda and yoga centres. The medical colleges and hospitals should function as per the guidelines of the government and NITI Aayog.
