Prakash Veer: We have removed 10,500 piracy links of The Devil

Entertainment Updated on :  22 Dec 2025, 5:40 pm Producer Prakash Veer’s latest venture, The Devil, starring Darshan, has entered its second week, raking up a gross of over 35 crores. On the surface, it seems like another commercial success, but behind the scenes, the film has been fighting a far bigger battle: piracy. “Piracy has become the devil itself. Till today, we have removed around 10,500 piracy links. From what I hear, this is the highest in India. We had prepared to face piracy, but not at this volume. The impact of piracy on single screens has been massive. These are the audiences who truly connect with the film. I had an incident in Tiptur where a bus was screening The Devil. We complained, but the bus owner said it was a cleaner’s mistake. These small things, unnoticed, are exactly what is killing cinema.” For Prakash, the stakes are deeply personal. “As a producer, all I want to say to the fan wars, to people making statements online, this is not healthy for the film, nor the industry. The negativity and conflicts don’t just affect the film; they impact the producer, daily wage workers, technicians, and everyone who survives on cinema. When I was producing The Devil, I worked closely among these wage workers, and I came to understand that every piracy link, every negative post, is hitting them directly.” While Prakash faces piracy issues day in and day out, the film also struggled with censorship hurdles, with 33 cuts requiring approval from a revised committee in Mumbai, he revealed. “The censor process got stuck, creating doubts around the release on December 11. Multiple calls came in asking if the film would even make it to theatres. And once we released, the negativity didn’t stop. We need to fight for good scripts, for meaningful cinema, yet nobody seems to see the bigger picture. Look at the bandwidth of our language. We are still asking people to save Kannada. But when a film struggles, the burden falls on us, on the small workers, on theatre owners.” Satellite and digital rights remain undervalued for Kannada films, while fan wars rage online with little accountability. “It is time we realise individual responsibility. We must understand what cinema really supports: the daily wage worker, our culture, and our language. Piracy, negativity, and fan wars kill livelihoods. We fight to keep Kannada cinema alive, and that fight has to be recognised and supported by everyone.” Read More

Samarjit Lankesh: Working with Mohanlal changed how I see cinema

Entertainment Samarjit Lankesh; Mohanlal look in Vrusshabha Updated on :  22 Dec 2025, 5:36 pm Samarjit Lankesh, the son of filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh, started his journey with his father’s film Gowri. However, his second film Vrusshabha throws him into a new pan-India spotlight. He also shares the screen with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the film, which is scheduled for a release on December 25. “To be in a star-driven film, it depends on how an actor stands out instead of being overshadowed,” Samarjit says. “I always believed there is no big or small film by, and as an actor, I need to define myself. When director Nanda Kishore chose me, I wanted to give my best. The story focuses on a father-son bond, and for me, this was a chance to learn more than to spotlight myself.” Nanda Kishore discovered him through a dance number and selected scenes from his debut. “He believed I could handle the role. Working with Mohanlal completely changed how I see cinema. He never made me feel like a newcomer. On set, we discussed and explored the relationship between father and son. Honestly, I thought someone like him would be unapproachable, but he was warm, open, and generous with his time.” Samarjit acknowledges that filming in multiple languages added a layer of complexity. “Malayalam was tough; Telugu came naturally. I didn’t want to fake it; I wanted to be authentic. The film is bilingual and is dubbed in Kannada and Hindi. It challenged me, but it also taught me a lot about rhythm, dialogue, and presence.” Samarjit points out that being a filmmaker’s son did not make the process any easier. “I never expected my second film would involve a star like Mohanlal. I spent a whole year on this project. When I wasn’t on set, I was learning from Nanda Kishore and the production team, trying to understand the scale and flow of a big shoot.” Collaborating with Nayan Sarika, a Telugu actor with several hits, provided its own lessons. “I was the newcomer, so there was improvisation and learning to match energy, especially during action scenes mixed with emotional moments. Every day facing Mohanlal was a chance to discover and improve.” For Samarjit, the experience went beyond just acting. “The bond I formed with Mohanlal and the crew is something I will always treasure. Watching most of Lal sir’s films and discussing them with him helped me understand his craft in ways I never thought possible, which also improved my performance. Working with Nanda Kishore helped make things comfortable.” Even now, influenced by Mohanlal, he remains humble. “As he often says, cinema will find its audience, and I hope Vrusshabha does too,” he signs off. Retta Thala actor Siddhi Idnani: Audience are smart to differentiate between unwanted and important characters

Entertainment Home»Interviews»Retta Thala actor Siddhi Idnani: Audience are smart enough to differentiate between unwanted and important characters» It has been two years since the release of Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam, after which actor Siddhi Idnani will be coming back to Tamil cinema. With her action thriller film Retta Thala gearing up for Christmas release, Siddhi says that it’s been amazing and dream-like state ever since her first Tamil film Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu had released in 2022. “People still call me by my role in VTK, and it was a great launch. I think I had some seriousness and extremely conscious of my choices. After VTK, I immediately did Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam but that didn’t do well. It was when it hit me that no two sides can be same. I had put more efforts, but it didn’t materialise. I took a step back, observe from 360-degree angle, and took a gap for a right script. That’s when Retta Thala came to me. It is like a tornado, a harmless one that you can enjoy with popcorn by the side.” Entertainment Siddhi Idnani interview: In Retta Thala, Siddhi plays Antre, a young woman from Pondicherry. “Her mother is French and father is a fisherman. Both of them passed away when she was young and grew up experiencing poverty. So, she is ambitious and wants no poverty ever in her life. She is raised by her grandmother and has a lot of aspirations. In order to do that, she does not have any inhibitions and wants to reach the top, no matter what it takes her. She is very black and white, that is how she encounters Arun Vijay’s Kaali, and how they embark on a journey,” Siddhi explains. The actor further explains on how Retta Thala’s director Kris Thirukumaran made it clear that her role has some importance in the script. “When I am coming to a film and after a break, I want to make sure my character leaves a mark. Even in VTK, though she did not have much screen space, people remembered. So, in this film, I want to make sure I came with bang. I would associate the perfume Red Temptation from Zara to Antre, bold, strong and very lasting impact.” Siddhi Idnani in Retta Thala It is a common notion that action thrillers, especially the testosterone-heavy ones, often are biased towards women roles and offer limited scope. When asked about this, Siddhi opines that the script and director are important. “I have been fortunate to work with those who write good characters, be it Gautham Menon or Muthaiya sir. But generally, in Tamil cinema, audience have become smart enough to differentiate between unwanted and important characters. The minute they watch larger-than-life, action films, they can tell why a certain character is part of it or not. It is not the times when nobody will notice. So, being woman in industry, it is great time to have good, chunky roles in films.” ‘My favourite watch this year is Lokah’ As audience, Siddhi’s favourite watch this year is Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. She watched the film at a theatre houseful in Mumbai. “It was dubbed version and watched it in Hindi. I was so happy to see such a good response from audience for a female superhero. Hats off to Kalyani and studio that backed it. It was high-risk but it broke the stereotypes, and opened avenues for rest of us,” Siddhi mentions. Talking about how films across languages get free access to travel anywhere within country and even world, Siddhi says that it’s a great time to be in cinemas. “Initially, there have been beliefs when someone who did television or OTT cannot get into films, but everyone is everywhere. It is just open and avenues are open. Like, if Thalapathy Vijay sir decides to do one more film, I know every actor in every industry would want to be part of that film. Similarly, a Ranbir Kapoor can work with a Tamil actress, and that can happen. The limits are not there.” Siddhi also talks about her long-pending film Nooru Kodi Vanavil, a romantic drama co-starring Harish Kalyan and hopes that it releases sometime in 2026. “Harish is doing well for himself, and collectively, if Harish and I keep doing well, we will one day release it,” the actor says. Apart from that, she has wrapped up shooting for another Tamil film for an upcoming director for his third film, and two more which will kickstart after Pongal 2026. Retta Thala FAQs Q. Who is the hero of Retta Thala? A. Arun Vijay is the hero of Retta Thala. Q. Who is the music director in the movie Retta Thala? A. Sam CS has scored the music for Retta Thala. Q. What is Retta Thala release date? A. Retta Thala will release on December 25. Read More
