Siddhi Idnani on her dimples: ‘Some directors don’t like that’

Entertainment Retta Thala stars Arun Vijay (L) and Siddhi Idnani Updated on :  21 Dec 2025, 12:56 pm Actor Siddhi Idnani, who is coming back to Tamil cinema after 2023’s Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam with the upcoming film Retta Thala, recently talked about how her dimples affect her performances in films. In a recent interview with Rednool, Siddhi was asked about the dimples that appear on her face as she smiles. While the actor’s Retta Thala co-star Arun Vijay called it an “attraction,” Siddhi said that it makes it challenging for her to cry convincingly onscreen. “People compliment me for the dimples. However, it is also a problem, because when I cry also, the dimples show,” Siddhi said. “Many directors do not like that,” she added, highlighting how her facial feature makes the act of crying seem like smiling from the outside. The actor said that those directors would tell her not to smile when she cries during her performance and that she has to clarify that she is not doing so. “It is there now. How can I control something that is not there in my hands?” Siddhi Idnani rhetorically said. Subsequently, Arun asked Siddhi how she manages this aspect of her performance, and the latter said that she would concentrate on emoting just with her eyes, leaving aside the rest of her face. As the actor showed Arun how she does this, it brought big laughs from her co-star. Directed by Kris Thirukumaran of Maan Karate (2014) and Gethu (2016) fame, Retta Thala is scheduled to hit theatres on Christmas this year. Read More

‘Govinda in Avatar’ memes surface amid Fire and Ash’s release

Entertainment Updated on :  21 Dec 2025, 12:25 pm Remember when Govinda revealed that he turned down an offer to play the lead role in James Cameron’s Avatar? Amid the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, netizens are having a field day with fake AI-generated images and videos, where the actor can be seen as one of the Na’vi people in Cameron’s film. Interestingly, the memes reached a crescendo this Sunday, which marks Govinda’s birthday. Some netizens are also of the opinion that Cameron should have made a version of Avatar with Govinda in an important role, instead of choosing certain other actors with lesser skill. Despite the appreciation for its spectacle, the film is facing plenty of flak from audiences and critics alike for its storytelling. The feedback for the film is in stark contrast to its India box office collection, which according to Sacnilk, has reached around 57 crore as of writing this. Coming back to Govinda, the actor once said on Aaj Ki Adalat that he rejected the offer to star in Avatar as he was uncomfortable with the idea of having his body painted for a schedule lasting over 400 days. He also disclosed that it was his idea to name the film Avatar, that it would become commercially successful, and that Cameron could not wrap the film’s production in seven years. Interestingly, Govinda is not the only actor to claim that he turned down the lead role in Cameron’s film. Many years ago, Matt Damon said that he declined it for a 10 per cent of the film’s profit, a claim that Cameron recently dismissed. Read More
