Entertainment After collaborating on Kaminey (2009), Haider (2014) and Rangoon (2017), Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj have joined hands for the fourth time for O’Romeo. This combo, along with the ensemble cast, impactful trailer and soulful-n-peppy album have generated interest for the flick. O’Romeo releases on February 13, and earlier this week, the censor process was completed. In this article, Bollywood Hungama will exclusively focus on the cuts given to the action entertainer. EXCLUSIVE: O’Romeo is Shahid Kapoor’s LENGHTIEST film; CBFC replaces ‘Item’ with ‘Kumari’; reduces ‘woman slapping visual’ by 20% O’Romeo has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate; in other words, this is Shahid Kapoor’s fourth A-rated film of his career after Kaminey (2009), Udta Punjab (2016) and Kabir Singh (2019). Despite the adult rating, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked for several changes. The Examining Committee of the CBFC made several changes in the dialogues. The word ‘Item’ was replaced with ‘Kumari’. At four other places, a word was replaced, but there is no detail on the same in the cut list. In a scene, a word was muted, while at another point, an ‘inappropriate’ word was asked to be deleted. There has been no cut in the romantic and intimate scenes. However, a few violent scenes had to face the censor scissors. A close-up visual of throat cutting was reduced by 20%, that is, by 3 seconds. 2 seconds were reduced in two shots – one of close-up visuals of ‘bloodshed head hitting’ and one involving a close-up shot of blood squirting on a woman’s face. Then, ‘woman slapping visual’ was also reduced by 20%, or by 2 seconds. Lastly, anti-tobacco and anti-smoking tickers were added and the length of each disclaimer, along with voice over, was asked to be increased. The latter added 1 minute and 57 seconds to the run time of the film. Once these changes were made, O’Romeo was handed over the censor certificate on February 11. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 178.41 minutes. In other words, O’Romeo is 2 hours, 58 minutes and 41 seconds long. This also means that O’Romeo is the lengthiest film of Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj. I was just on a call with David Dhawan—he too reached out. Following reports of the actor being sent to Tihar jail after failing to meet court-mandated repayment obligations in a cheque bounce case, the apex body has appealed to members of the film industry to come forward and assist him. FWICE steps in for Rajpal Yadav, appeals to film industry for financial support amid legal crisis In an official statement, FWICE urged filmmakers, artists and well-wishers to offer monetary help to Yadav, stressing the need for collective support during what it described as a difficult phase in the actor’s life. The organisation clarified that contributions could either be made directly to Rajpal Yadav or routed through FWICE, assuring transparency in the process. “Members and well-wishers willing to offer monetary assistance may contribute directly to Shri Rajpal Yadav or route their support through FWICE. The Federation assures complete transparency, and any funds received will be responsibly consolidated and handed over to assist him in settling his dues at the earliest,” the statement read. Several personalities from the film industry, including Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, have already expressed their support for the actor, who is widely respected for his work and distinctive comic timing. The legal issues trace back to a financial decision taken over a decade ago, when Yadav borrowed a substantial sum to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata. After the film underperformed commercially, repayment difficulties emerged, eventually leading to a prolonged legal dispute. Over the years, multiple cheques issued towards repayment were dishonoured, resulting in his conviction under cheque bounce provisions of the law. While higher courts had granted interim relief at different stages, they also required the actor to show genuine intent by clearing a significant portion of the outstanding amount, which had increased considerably with time. Despite partial payments made earlier, the court recently observed repeated non-compliance with assurances given by the actor, ultimately directing him to surrender. This development prompted renewed concern within the film fraternity, leading FWICE to step in with its appeal. By issuing this statement, FWICE has positioned itself as a facilitator, calling for solidarity within the industry to help Rajpal Yadav resolve his financial liabilities and navigate one of the most challenging periods of his career. The label and event platform – established in 2017 – arrives in Mumbai after traveling to cities such as Paris, London, Ibiza and Berlin over the years.
