Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana, who’s currently riding high on the success of his latest film, Thamma, visited the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai on Wednesday to seek blessings. The visit came just after Thamma had a fantastic opening, earning Rs. 25.11 crore net on its first day in India, making it the biggest opening of Ayushmann’s career. This strong start also marks the highest opening for a standalone film in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), which includes hits like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. Unlike Stree 2, which was a sequel, Thamma is an original story, setting the stage for a brand-new franchise. Ayushmann was joined at the temple by Amar Kaushik, the film’s co-producer and the creative force behind Stree and Stree 2.

All about Thamma

Thamma was released on October 21, 2025, during this Diwali weekend. The movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal in key roles.

What’s Thamma About?

The film follows the story of Alok, a historian who accidentally awakens an ancient vampire named Yakshasan. Later on, Alok himself turns into a vampire and must stop Yakshasan’s terror.

As for the film’s success, Ayushmann named Thamma as the ‘tentpole’ of his career. He recalled how, growing up, he would watch big Diwali releases with his family, and this year, he experienced that joy with his own film on the big screen.

“I’m an entertainer, and it feels amazing to see people enjoying Thamma and my performance during the Diwali holidays,” Ayushmann said. “When Dinesh Vijan told me we were releasing on Diwali, I was thrilled. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of—to have my film out during the festival that’s seen the biggest stars release their biggest movies.”

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, Thamma is a horror-comedy that blends thrills with laughs and seems to be the start of something much bigger.
