It has been a number of years since the Chicago Bears organization gave out an extension to a quarterback. In fact, the last person to receive such a deal was Jay Cutler, who has not suited up for the team since 2016.

Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is now the first quarterback in years to receive a contract extension, one that also will change his life moving forward. The young passer took to the podium following his $10 million extension and was brought to tears over the well-earned deal.
While speaking to reporters, Bagent was emotional over his new deal.
“I think that a lot of people don’t know this, but my dad is my right-hand man. He didn’t have running water until he was in high school. There is definitely a lot of things and people I can help with this gift I have been blessed with. I don’t really know anyone back home with any money. It feels good. It’s ceratinly a weight off my shoulders, off my family shoulder, it definitely means alot,” Bagent stated.

Bagent has been with the Bears since the 2023 season, where he was signed as an undrafted free agent. During the 2023 season, he would make the 53-man roster and was the third-string quarterback behind Justin Fields and Nathan Peterman.
Bagent would be promoted to second-string by Week 4, and also made his NFL debut on October 15, filling in for the then-injured Fields. During the game, he threw 10-of-14 passes for 83 yards, with one rushing touchdown.
Bagent worked his way into the second-string position in 2024 and has since established himself as a solid backup for the Bears organization. Ben Johnson and the rest of the staff have been impressed with the young passer’s skills, leading to his two-year, $10 million extension.
Should Caleb Williams not be able to make it on the field, the Bears are plenty confident that Bagent can step in and get the job done.
