Toyota offers two distinct flavors of the Corolla with all-wheel-drive capability: the efficient and surprisingly affordable Corolla Hybrid and the rally-bred GR Corolla hot hatch. The former is Toyota’s least expensive hybrid model and boasts impressive efficiency. But while the e-AWD system’s separate, rear-mounted motor noticeably improves the Corolla Hybrid’s straight-line performance, its 9.7-second 0–60 sprint is still pokey by today’s standards and slower than non-hybrid versions of the Corolla.
For those who’re looking for something a bit more exciting, the GR Corolla delivers in spades. One of the most entertaining hot hatches on sale today, the GR model cranks out 300 horsepower and is outfitted with a six-speed manual transmission as standard; an eight-speed automatic is also optionally available. Its sport-tuned suspension, flared bodywork, and significantly higher price puts this one squarely in the enthusiast camp, though.
