Read further to know what Bhumi Pednekar thinks about breaking stereotypes and living an unconventional life as an actor and as a climate advocate.
From the starting, ever since her debut in Dum Laga Ke Haisha a decade ago, Bhumi Pednekar has made a career out of choosing roles that defy expectations and breaks streotypes. From socially thought provoking films like Badhaai Do to the hard-hitting Bhakshak on Netflix, her work has consistently challenged conventions and made you think beyond what’s normal. At the Milken Institute Asia Summit 2025, the actor and climate advocate brought that same spirit to the stage, speaking openly about breaking stereotypes and living life on her own terms and conditions.
Challenging the Status Quo
“I love breaking stereotypes. I think it’s something that gives me such joy. I love challenging the status quo,” Bhumi told the audience. “I don’t come from a film family—nobody could have imagined I would become an actor. And yet, here I am, doing things even my family still finds unbelievable.”
Her candor resonated deeply as she spoke about the personal choices that often draw public scrutiny. “I’m constantly asked, ‘You’re 35, why aren’t you married?’ In India, people say, ‘When will you settle down?’ And I always say—I am settled. I’m independent, I have a beautiful family, I’m healthy, I’m happy. What can be better than this?”
Personal Choices and Her Public Impact
By sharing her own such experiences, Bhumi highlighted how cultural change often begins by individuals who dare to question tradition and ask why. Her presence at the summit, among several global leaders and changemakers, served as a strong reminder that personal courage can spark larger conversations about freedom, independence, and choice.
Life Alaways Imitates Art
Bhumi Pednekar’s rise in Bollywood has often mirrored the roles she chooses. Her artistic choices are deeply tied to the life she leads, unconventional, unapologetic, and inspiring and it’s very visible in the work that she chooses to do.
