Cardi B Hosts Star-Studded WWE SummerSlam 2025 In New Jersey

The WWE made sure that SummerSlam 2025 lived up to its “biggest party of the summer” moniker in all meanings of the phrase. Cardi B hosted the inaugural two-night iteration of the annual event emanating from the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Bronx star opened the first night on Saturday (Aug. 2) and debuted a new, unnamed record during her entrance. Russell Wilson, Tyrese Haliburton, Druski, Fat Joe, and more celebrities were in the building for the major event. Night one was highlighted by an instant classic WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Gunther and CM Punk, which saw Punk win his first world title in WWE in over a decade. His celebration was cut short by a returning Seth “Freakin’” Rollins, who had reportedly suffered an injury last month but revealed that it was fake.

Rollins ran to the ring with his Money In The Bank briefcase, cashed in his contract for a championship match, and pinned his rival to win the world title for the first time since WrestleMania 40 in April 2024. That would have been the biggest takeaway from any normal one-night show, but night two saw another classic bout between John Cena and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Both competitors took full advantage of the Street Fight stipulation, utilizing various foreign objects to gain an edge over one another and battling all over MetLife Stadium. Rhodes finally got the victory in the end and won back the Undisputed WWE Championship. Cena, who recently shed his heel persona to be the hero everyone loved, thanked the fans for showing him love in his final SummerSlam before retirement. Unfortunately, not everyone was there to celebrate him; Brock Lesnar returned to the WWE for the first time since SummerSlam 2023 and delivered a thunderous F-5 to his longtime rival.

The undercard of both nights featured Naomi and Tiffany Stratton retaining their respective Women’s championships, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair taking the WWE Women’s Tag team titles from Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez, Dominik Mysterio successfully defending his Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles, Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre defeating Jelly Roll and Randy Orton, and more.

Stephanie McMahon announced that both nights had a total of 113,722 attendees, which made this past weekend’s event the largest attended SummerSlam of all-time. Check out pictures from the event in this gallery.
