First ‘Michael’ Biopic Trailer Offers Weirdly Upbeat Take on Michael Jackson’s Life

Entertainment According to the first teaser, the legendary singer’s life was filled with nothing but joy and triumph, from childhood on Jaafar Jackson plays Michael Jackson in ‘Michael,’ with the first teaser released today Kevin Mazur/Lionsgate Michael Jackson described his time in the Jackson 5 as filled with physical abuse by his father, with the whole experience robbing him of his childhood — but in the relentlessly upbeat first trailer for Michael, we see only family fun in glimpses of that period. Overall, the teaser presents an entirely triumphant view of a life that, even in Jackson’s own telling, had its share of strife and unhappiness, even as he created some of the greatest and most influential pop and R&B of the 20th century. The preview opens with Jackson (played by his nephew Jaafar Jackson) in a recording studio with producer Quincy Jones (Kendrick Sampson). “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this,” Jones says. “The tracks are made, the songs are ready. Let’s take it from the top.” Set to Jackson’s 1982 classic “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” the trailer goes on to show career highlights, including the making of Thriller. The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, wrapped production in May 2024, but the Jackson estate reportedly discovered that the completed film violated a decades-old legal agreement with the family of Jordan Chandler, who accused Jackson of molesting him in 1993 when Chandler was 13. Puck reported that the original script made the Chandler case central to the film’s third act, portraying Jackson as an alleged victim of extortion. The estate reportedly overlooked the legal issue during script approval, forcing extensive reshoots in March 2025. The film’s release date was initially scheduled for April 2025, but was then moved to October 2025, and subsequently to April 2026. Early reports indicated a nearly four-hour cut that Lionsgate considered splitting into two films. Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, distanced herself from the project after Domingo told People Magazine that she and her brother, Prince, were “very much in support” of the film. “Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in,” she wrote on Instagram. Paris said she read an early script and provided notes about inaccuracies and “full-blown lies,” but producers ignored her concerns. “The film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy,” she said. “And they’re going to be happy with it.” Dan Reed, director of HBO’s 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, which focuses on two men who accuse Jackson of sexual abuse, has repeatedly criticized the biopic as a “complete whitewash.” Earlier this month, the Financial Times reported that the estate reached a $2.5 million settlement this year with a separate set of accusers. Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who appeared in Leaving Neverland, have a negligence lawsuit against Jackson’s production companies scheduled for trial in 2026. Jackson was acquitted of child molestation charges in a 2005 criminal trial, and the estate has consistently denied all allegations. The film’s cast also includes Miles Teller as Jackson’s attorney, John Branca; Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson; Nia Long as Katherine Jackson; Jessica Sula as LaToya Jackson; Larenz Tate as Motown founder Berry Gordy; Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe; and Kat Graham as Diana Ross. Graham King, who produced Bohemian Rhapsody, serves as producer alongside Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Jackson estate. From Rolling Stone US. Read More

Why Khruangbin Re-Recorded Their Debut Album, 10 Years After Its Release

Entertainment The psych-rock trio discusses The Universe Smiles Upon You ii, released 10 years to the day since the original Khruangbin are celebrating a decade since their debut album — by doing it all over again. The band just surprise-released The Universe Smiles Upon You ii, an album of re-recorded, reimagined songs from their debut. It’s out today, 10 years to the day since the original.  The band was initially unsure of how they wanted to mark the occasion, or what a re-recorded version of their debut would even sound like. “The thought was like, ‘We’ll just do it all over again. And it will be us 10 years later with the same instruments in the same location, and it’ll be different because we’re different,’” Laura Lee Ochoa, the band’s bassist, says in an interview over Zoom. “But as the date neared, it was sort of, ‘Actually, the kids 10 years later would think about the songs as they are today, and not just play them as they were. That’s not who we are.’” The Houston trio, which comprises Ochoa, guitarist Mark Speer, and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson, have released four studio albums, a collaborative album with Vieux Farka Touré, two EPs with fellow Texan Leon Bridges, and several live EPs since first appearing on the scene in the mid-2010s. Khruangbin’s signature sound of mostly-instrumental psychedelic rock, which pulls from global influences from Thai rock to Southern soul, has made them a staple of the festival circuit and a much-imitated act. Speer says it was important to get the sound right as they revisited their debut. “I wanted to get really textural with it,” he says. “I wanted to come in almost from an ASMR standpoint. I was going to play acoustic guitar on some stuff. I was going to put contact mics and everything, so all the squeaks and the noises and the air in the room has this dusty sound.” Influenced by their work with Arooj Aftab, they also added drum loops to several tracks. Fans will notice that the track listing has been rearranged. “Bin Bin,” a hidden track from the original’s vinyl, replaces “Mr. White,” and Ochoa, who typically sequences the band’s albums, reordered the rest of the songs around it. “The sequencing didn’t make sense in the original order,” says Ochoa. “I usually have to find the first song. What is the central thesis statement of the record? And it was definitely not the first song from the last record.” Here, Speer comes to the original album’s defense: “It didn’t make sense this time. The sequencing in 2015 was perfect.” While they made some changes, Khruangbin still wanted to approach the reworked album the same way they recorded The Universe Smiles Upon You. That included returning to where they recorded the debut, a bare-bones barn on a property owned by Speer’s family. “It’s just corrugated tin walls. There’s no insulation. It’s dirt floors,” he says. “So when it got cold, it got really cold. We started stuffing the cracks in the doors with blankets just to keep the wind from blowing through.”  The band was drawn to the barn in part because of how Texas it felt, an identity the trio has always worn on their sleeves. “Houston specifically is woven into the fabric of who we are,” DJ says. “Secret’s out now because everyone’s moving here, but Houston has its own unique blend of cultural flavors that meld here.”  That appeal of seemingly disparate cultures coming together is reflected in the band’s music, but their Texan roots are something they often return to. It’s what drew them to work with Leon Bridges on their two collaborative EPs, 2020’s Texas Sun and 2022’s Texas Moon. “When Texans hang out with Texans, we kind of have this unique understanding of each other,” DJ says. They add that they intended to make a full album together with the singer, but say that Bridges’ label wasn’t sold on the idea. “It wasn’t something that they felt confident about,” Ochoa says. “And I sent a Hail Mary email to everyone I could, saying that I thought this music deserved to be heard.”  Khruangbin are heading on the road for a short run of intimate shows to celebrate The Universe Smiles Upon You ii, with tickets available to members of the band’s Khru Club. “We’ve purposely decided to play smaller venues and smaller rooms. And I think that in itself is really exciting,” DJ says. The trio’s DIY ethos has kept them close-knit, and carried them through the highs and lows of being in a band, he adds: ”We have a saying, ‘Always bet on Khruangbin.’ We’ve learned to just lean into ourselves and be who we are unapologetically.”  From Rolling Stone US. Hilary Duff Makes Her Official Return to Music With New Single ‘Mature’

Entertainment “Mature” is Hilary Duff’s first single in a decade Lauren Dunn Hilary Duff is back — and older and wiser. The multi-hyphenate has shared her highly-anticipated single “Mature.” On the song, Duff takes a pop-rock jaunt through the past as she sings to a younger version of herself. “She looks like all of your girls but blonder/A little like me, but younger,” Duff offers over a glimmering blend of synths and guitar licks. “‘Mature’ is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self,” Duff said in a release. “The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other. It’s a chuckle, a wink, and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed,” she added. Duff shared a new video along with the song. Directed by Lauren Dunn, the visual finds two versions of Duff; one twirls around onstage in a gold, sequined dress performing the song while the other sits watching from an empty auditorium. In a teaser for the single, Duff shared a clip of a butterfly landing on her cheek. The video closes out to a similar scene, but instead, Duff is holding the butterfly in her hands and lets it fly away. It’s a sentimental nod to her 2003 debut album Metamorphosis. “Mature” marks Duff’s first new music since 2015’s Breathe In, Breathe Out, which the singer worked on with her now-husband Matthew Koma. Koma, a songwriter and producer who releases music under the name Winnetka Bowling League, also co-wrote “Mature” along with Duff and Madison Love. “Mature” comes just two months after the singer-actress signed to Atlantic Records, kicking off her return to music. Duff will also star in her own upcoming docuseries. Directed by Sam Wrench — who recently worked on Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, and Laufey’s a Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl — the docuseries will chronicle Duff’s long-awaited return to music as she balances her family life, live show rehearsals, and prepares to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade. In an interview with podcaster Jake Shane, Duff shared some insight about her musical return. “I have this crazy connection with fans that I’ve known since I was nine, 10 years old, and I just want to connect with them again,” she said. “Finally I felt safe enough and comfortable in my own family to step outside and open that part of myself up again.” From Rolling Stone US. Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut Saali Mohabbat, starring Radhika Apte, Divyenndu Sharma, Anurag Kashyap, to stream on ZEE5

Entertainment After an impressive run at various film festivals, Saali Mohabbat — the highly anticipated ZEE5 Original Film — directed by Tisca Chopra and starring Radhika Apte, Divyenndu Sharma, Anurag Kashyap, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sauraseni Maitra and Sharat Saxena— is set to premiere exclusively on ZEE5 later this year. Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut Saali Mohabbat, starring Radhika Apte, Divyenndu Sharma, Anurag Kashyap, to stream on ZEE5 Produced by Jio Studios and Manish Malhotra’s Stage5 Production, the thriller-drama marks the celebrated designer’s digital debut as a producer — seamlessly blending his signature visual finesse with a deeply emotional narrative. This also marks ZEE5’s fourth collaboration with Jio Studios, following the successes of Hisaab Barabar and Mrs., starring R. Madhavan and Sanya Malhotra respectively, and the recent Bhagwat featuring Arshad Warsi and Jitendra Kumar. The film also sees Radhika Apte returning to the platform after her much-loved performance in Mrs. Undercover. After premiering at IFFI last year and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival this year, Saali Mohabbat invites viewers into a world where love blurs into obsession and buried secrets slowly unravel. The film follows Smita (Radhika Apte), a small-town housewife whose seemingly ordinary life descends into a labyrinth of infidelity, deceit, and moral ambiguity. What begins as a tale of domestic routine soon unfolds into a gripping exploration of betrayal, revenge, and the thin, treacherous line between truth and illusion. Talking about the film, Kaveri Das, Business Head, Hindi ZEE5 said, “At ZEE5, our constant endeavour is to bring stories that challenge conventions and connect with audiences on a deeper level. With Saali Mohabbat, we’re thrilled to present a thriller that’s not just about suspense, but about the intricate emotions that drive human choices. Collaborating once again with Jio Studios and working with creative powerhouses like Manish Malhotra and Tisca Chopra has been incredibly rewarding. And of course, having Radhika Apte return to the platform with a role that showcases her depth and range makes this project even more special.” Producer Jyoti Deshpande, President – Jio Studios (Media & Content Business, RIL) said, “At Jio Studios, our constant pursuit is to back bold voices and powerful stories that transcend genres. Saali Mohabbat is a shining example of that vision — an ingeniously crafted thriller that marks our proud collaboration with producer Manish Malhotra, who seamlessly extends his creative brilliance from fashion to film. After its successful reception at IFFI, we are delighted that Saali Mohabbat has found a home on ZEE5, where our stories have consistently found a wide and appreciative audience. We look forward to viewers across the globe experiencing Tisca Chopra’s riveting directorial debut.” Producer Manish Malhotra said, “Stage5 Production was founded with a clear intention — to back stories that are original in thought and strong in craft. In that same spirit, I’m pleased to announce our second film, Saali Mohabbat — a layered, character-driven drama that examines power, silence, and the invisible cost of human choices. This project has been built with deep involvement at every stage — from development to the final cut — because at Stage5, we don’t just produce films, we stand by them. Every creative and strategic decision has been shaped with purpose, rigour, and responsibility. We’ve had the privilege of working with an ensemble of exceptionally talented actors, each bringing a distinct rhythm, restraint, and truth to their characters — the kind of performances that don’t speak loudly but linger. Jyoti Deshpande and Jio Studios have backed the film from day one with clarity and long-term vision — and at the core of this vision stands Tisca Chopra whose script and direction bring structure, nuance, and an assured creative voice to the story. We’re also proud to partner with ZEE5, a platform that has consistently championed courageous, content-forward cinema. Their support ensures the film will reach audiences across geographies, languages, and cultures — exactly the kind of journey this story deserves. Saali Mohabbat is the result of shared intent, aligned effort, and a team that values storytelling over spectacle.” Director Tisca Chopra shared, “With Saali Mohabbat, I wanted to tell a story that feels both intimate and unsettling — one that captures a woman’s gaze in a world full of hidden fractures and polite façades. I’ve always been fascinated by the quiet tensions that exist beneath the surface of relationships — the invisible power struggles, the unspoken expectations, the ways in which love can transform into something darker. This film explores those fragile boundaries — of trust, betrayal, and identity — but through a deeply female perspective. It’s about what happens when a woman stops conforming to the emotional roles expected of her and begins to own her truth, no matter how uncomfortable that truth might be. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had a producer as creative and instinctive as Manish Malhotra, and his production house Stage5. Manish’s response — just three minutes into the narration — gave me the conviction that this story had found its right home. He and his team supported the film not just with resources, but with genuine artistic trust and emotional understanding, allowing it to retain its raw, unpolished honesty. Directing Saali Mohabbat has been both terrifying and liberating — terrifying because it demanded emotional vulnerability, and liberating because it allowed me to step outside the boundaries women filmmakers are so often placed within. I am deeply grateful to ZEE5 for championing bold, layered, and thought-provoking cinema, and for bringing this story to audiences who seek something more than surface emotion. And I must also express my heartfelt gratitude to Jio Studios — for their belief in meaningful storytelling and their commitment to supporting independent, auteur-driven voices. Jio Studios has consistently encouraged stories that push boundaries, and I’m truly thankful that Saali Mohabbat found a home with partners who share that vision.” Saali Mohabbat will premiere on ZEE5 later this year! Ram Gopal Varma’s Rangeela returns to theatres in 4K on November 28, 2025

Entertainment Three decades after it first hit theatres, Ram Gopal Varma’s Rangeela is set to return to the big screen — this time in a newly remastered 4K HD format. The 1995 romantic drama, starring Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar, and Jackie Shroff, will re-release across select theatres on November 28 as part of Ultra Media’s Ultra Rewind initiative. Ram Gopal Varma’s Rangeela returns to theatres in 4K on November 28, 2025 The re-release aims to reintroduce the film’s timeless world of dreams, ambition, and unspoken love to a new generation of moviegoers. Confirming the date, Ultra Media said the restored version will showcase enhanced visuals and sound, offering audiences the chance to experience the film “as it was meant to be seen.” In a statement shared earlier, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma reflected on the film’s enduring relevance: “Rangeela embodied the spirit of aspiration, showing that ordinary people can also dare to dream big. Its success demonstrated that rule-breaking cinema is often the most unforgettable.” CEO of Ultra Media, Sushilkumar Agrawal, had also described Rangeela as “a nostalgic trip back to the golden era of Bollywood,” adding that the restoration ensures “its timeless charm continues to mesmerise audiences for years to come.” Released in 1995, Rangeela became a milestone in Hindi cinema for its vibrant storytelling, stylish choreography, and A. R. Rahman’s iconic soundtrack — featuring classics like Tanha Tanha, Haye Rama, and Rangeela Re. Its impact on fashion and film aesthetics marked a turning point for mainstream Bollywood. EXCLUSIVE: Shraddha Kapoor dubs for the Hindi version of Disney’s highly awaited animation film Zootopia 2

Entertainment Shraddha Kapoor owned 2024 with her power-packed performance in Stree 2, the highest grosser of Bollywood to date. Recently, she took the cake at the trailer launch of the 2025 Diwali release Thamma. Thamma belongs to the same universe as Stree 2 and hence, she graced the occasion and impressed fans and her critics in her trademark style. And now, she’s all set to appear in front of the media once again on Saturday, November 8. The mediapersons got an invite earlier today saying that she’ll be present to make a special announcement. The only additional information was that the event is held by Star Studio18. It made the media curious, wondering what could be the announcement. Her next film, Eetha, went on floors recently. It is backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar of Chhaava (2025) fame. It was assumed that probably Star Studio18 may have come on board for Eetha. EXCLUSIVE: Shraddha Kapoor dubs for the Hindi version of Disney’s highly awaited animation film Zootopia 2 However, Bollywood Hungama has learned that the event, which will be held at a multiplex in Mumbai tomorrow, has nothing to do with Eetha. A source told us, “Shraddha Kapoor has dubbed for the Hindi version of Disney’s highly awaited animated film, Zootopia 2. This is the announcement that will be made at the November 8 event.” The source continued, “Shraddha Kapoor has a lovely voice and has probably never dubbed for a Hollywood film before. Moreover, she’s one of the top stars and has a huge fan following among kids and families, who are also the target audience for Zootopia 2. Therefore, they felt that she was the apt choice. Shraddha was on board immediately. She has been a Disney heroine before, in ABCD – Any Body Can Dance – 2 (2015) and had a wonderful experience of being associated with the brand. As a result, she was too happy to reunite, this time with Walt Disney Animation Studios, for Zootopia 2. Zootopia 2 is the sequel to the 2016 film Zootopia, a story of a rookie police officer rabbit and a con artist fox who team up to uncover a conspiracy involving the disappearance of predators. The film was a blockbuster and globally earned over $1 billion. Interestingly, Zootopia 2 is not the only animated film in Shraddha Kapoor’s pipeline. She is also a part of Choti Stree, which also belongs to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
