The film earned Rs 21.15 crore on Day 8, 22.25 crore on Day 9, and 39 crore on Day 10. According to early estimates, the film earned another Rs 39 crore on Day 11, bringing the total revenue to Rs 437.65 crore in India net. Jonita Gandhi on Leading Hindi Version of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Heaven’ in Upcoming Remix EP

Now, he’s taking it a step further with an upcoming EP of remixes featuring a lineup of Indian artists, including Karan Aujla on “Symmetry” and Hanumankind, Dhee, and Santosh on “Don’t Look Down.” The EP also includes a new Hindi version of his song “Heaven,” a collaboration with Mumbai-based pop artist Jonita Gandhi. Gandhi gushes about being a longtime fan of Sheeran’s, and calls the collaboration “really special.” She adds about the making of the song, “After having the chance to meet him and even open for his concert earlier this year in India, I was blown away by how genuine and grounded he is — and how much he truly appreciates the music and culture here.” While “Sapphire” featured Punjabi lyrics sung by Singh, Gandhi notes that this is Sheeran’s first song to feature Hindi lyrics. She adds, “I’m so honored to be the one to do it. It’s a beautiful love song, and I feel so honored to bring a little bit of my personality and heart into it. I’m so excited for people to hear this version!” After singing in Punjabi with the likes of Arijit Singh on “Sapphire,” joining Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh on stage, and announcing a collaboration with Punjabi pop star Karan Aujla, the remix EP, slated to release on Oct. 17, 2025, extends the Play universe in a cross-cultural direction. In an Instagram post featuring Aujla and Norwegian hip hop group Quick Style, Sheeran also announced that the music video for “Symmetry” will drop the same day. Gandhi, who opened for Sheeran at his Chennai stop in February this year before Play was out, adds a Hindi verse to amplify “Heaven,” a love song. A press release says about the track, “Jonita’s lines reflect the same theme, the feeling of finding home in someone’s arms and falling in love all over again. The duet keeps the arrangement simple and true to the original, letting both voices carry the weight of the song while making it honest, universal, and deeply personal at once.” In the past, Gandhi has collaborated with the likes of Pakistani pop maverick Ali Sethi (“Love Like That”) and, more recently, with U.K. DJ-producer Sigala and pop group Little Mix’s singer Leigh-Anne on “Hello.” In June, she released her Hindi single “Beparwai,” produced by Tamil-Canadian beatsmith Yanchan Produced and Ariza. COVER STORY: Agam’s Carnatic Prog Rock Dreams Have Gone Global  

Entertainment In the span of 18 years, the Bengaluru act have transformed India’s treasured traditional music into grandiose tunes with an appeal across ages, now heard on their new album ‘Arrival of The Ethereal’  In July 2011, I stood in a serpentine queue outside Hard Rock Café on Bengaluru’s M.G. Road. Inside, there was barely any space to move, as the crowd pushed and shoved through the room to find an inch to stand. But as lofty keys built anticipation and Carnatic vocal melodies made way for the first guitar riffs to cut through the air, everyone began craning their neck towards the elevated stage with mesmerized focus. We had all jostled to watch Agam unleash their take on traditional South Indian songs, a set infused with hints of Sufi and a tribute to master composer A.R. Rahman, an early supporter of the band. It was the first time I got to experience the full force of the band that has been steadily building their legacy since 2003 — taking the familiarity of Carnatic compositions and Malayalam folk songs and preserving their spiritual essence while also slamming on percussive power, towering prog guitars, sublime vocals and even violins.   Agam are Rolling Stone India’s latest digital cover stars. At the time, Carnatic progressive rock — a fusion that Agam continue to champion even today — did not really exist. Even the band was still trying to find their footing and do justice to the tag. Sure, the likes of Motherjane’s Baiju Dharmajan were leading the way, but Agam leaned into it completely — interpreting ragas and compositions by poet-saint Thyagaraja, while also nodding to prog greats like Dream Theater, and peppering it with a bit of South Indian folk.   Agam won the 2007 televised music competition Ooh La La La, where they were discovered by A.R. Photo: Courtesy of the artist “I think our behavior as a band was also shaped by how the scene shaped us,” vocalist Harish Sivaramakrishnan says when we speak over a video call. “Like, if the scene remained as awkwardly disjointed as what it used to be, then it would have been a very different story. But I think the whole purpose of playing music got solidified because we got a great audience.”   From then to now, if there’s anything that’s constant, it’s that Agam have drawn audiences from across demographics, from ages 8 to 80. From the open-minded Carnatic music followers who count thalams on their fingers to prog rock and metal fans who want to headbang and behold the intricate and heavy rhythmic shifts — you’ll see them all at Agam’s shows.   Formed in Bengaluru between 2003 and 2007, just as they were transitioning from college to work life, vocalist (and back then, violinist) Harish Sivaramakrishnan and drummer Ganesh Ram Nagarajan had just begun jobs in the city’s software industry (naturally). Keyboardist Swamy Seetharaman had a few more years of work experience (“He was the only one that had money,” Sivaramakrishnan jokes) and guitarist T. Praveen Kumar had just landed a tech internship. Seetharaman was not just a band manager and catalyst for Agam (Sivaramakrishnan likens him to the manager and confidante character of Mangalam in the 2003 coming-of-age Tamil film Boys, essayed by the late great Tamil comedian Vivek), but also remains a key songwriter in the band to this day.   Agam recording the videos for songs off their third album ‘Arrival of The Ethereal.’ Photo: Courtesy of the artist, Illustration: Rahil Koshti Seetharaman recalls lucidly how, in May 2005 in Bengaluru, they met at a South Indian restaurant in Indiranagar’s 12th Main. “I still remember that I crossed the signal, I met Harish and we went to a studio,” he says. A digital audio workstation called Paris was at their disposal and Agam first began recording music through “analog recording” and jamming. “I would say I’m a firm believer in energies and how you sort of resonate with people. When I met Harish and Ganesh, it was just that energy that was carrying forward,” he adds.   With a lineup that included bassist Vignesh Lakshminarayanan and percussionist Sivakumar Nagarajan at the time, they recorded songs like “Lakshiya Paadhai” and “Mystical Aabheri.” Seetharaman says that it was around then that they decided to go “all in.” It led to them winning the 2007 televised music competition Ooh La La La, where they were discovered by A.R. Rahman. In a retrospective to mark the release of Arrival of the Ethereal, Rahman said in a video message, “Very few bands have a belief in an identity, and that too from India. Photo: Courtesy of the artist, Illustration: Rahil Koshti For Sivaramakrishnan, being part of Ooh La La La — the project that launched Agam into regional acclaim in South India, and even caught some national attention thanks to Rahman — was almost like getting the whole nine yards treatment that independent bands rarely got. “There would be a backline that you could rig your gear to, proper amps and a decent P.A. That was a big premium at that point in time,” the vocalist says. And, they got to play their own songs, a limited opportunity at a time when independent music festivals and platforms were far and few. “An added value was that potentially, A.R. Rahman would come and listen to you,” he points out. For Seetharaman, it was a watershed moment to believe he could make music, especially bolstered by the likes of Rahman, who appreciated his lyrics. He says emotionally, “[It was about] making people believe in themselves and giving that little nudge, saying, ‘Hey, I see something in you.’”   Agam went on to cinch bigger wins and gain wider exposure. The Paranormal Story Behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Hit Song ‘Golden’

When the beat drops on “Golden,” it’s an infectious sound — a rallying cry, a message of empowerment, and a celebration of how music can help overcome even the darkest of moments. Featured in Netflix’s blockbuster animated movie KPop Demon Hunters, “Golden” has become the defining song of the fictional girl group Huntr/x’s battle against evil, capturing the essence of their epic journey. Performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, “Golden” is definitely a cut above the rest from an all-hit album that has achieved massive success. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 as well as charts in several other countries. From Instagram to TikTok, “Golden” has gone viral, with millions of users sharing their own takes on it. Fans and celebrities have even been creating their own cover versions of the song on social media. And while the craze continues, the song has been certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States, with sales of over 2 million units. But as Ejae recently revealed on the popular American late-night talk show The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, “Golden”’s success is shrouded in a fascinating mystery. It’s a backstage anecdote that speaks to the song’s success — and it’s not what you’d expect. Ejae recounted, she saw a “grunge ghost” during a technical issue while she was in the middle of recording the song. She recalled the moment, saying, “So what happened was, you know, midway…my knob wasn’t working.” The knob, which controlled the volume, had malfunctioned, and Ejae had called out to the assistant engineer, Sully, for help. “I was like, ‘Hey Sully, it’s not working,’” she said, “and I heard him walk in, you know, open the door, his footsteps.” But by then, the issue had fixed itself, and when she looked up, no one was there. However, Ejae described what she saw in a fraction of a second: “I saw a tall dude with a flannel…with blue jeans…he was super tall…he was like walking towards me, but like…for a split second.” The encounter was brief but intense, yet quickly dismissed by Ian Eisendrath, the music director, urging them to get back to work. The experience didn’t sit well with Ejae, and she discussed it with the studio staff the next day, asking how old the building was, to which they responded, “Did you see a ghost?” It turned out that the studio had a reputation for paranormal activity, with a male ghost reportedly haunting the third floor and a female ghost on the fourth. Ejae shared that her mother reminded her later of a Korean myth that “if you see a ghost or any paranormal activity while recording a song, it’s a hit.” Ejae’s experience is not an isolated incident. The Korean myth is well-known in the K-pop industry, with many idols sharing their own ghostly encounters. According to a Creatrip report, artists, including 2AM’s Jo Kwon, have spoken about a “ghost boy” on the basement stairs of the old JYP building, which he added was built on a former cemetery. SM Entertainment also has its share of eerie stories, with idols like NCT’s Johnny and Jaehyun recounting strange noises during late-night practice sessions. Jaehyun referenced the myth that seeing a ghost during rehearsal is a surefire sign of a song’s success. Likewise, RBW’s “Ghost Minji” apparently haunts their recording studio, stirring up controversy among singers. Koreaboo reports that after finishing his part for a song during the making of their Wings album, BTS’s Jungkook played it back to find his vocals missing and another voice on the track instead. Many often associate the phenomenon with the album’s success. Emergence’s Krishna McKenzie Harvests Sound and Soil for the Same Reason

Photo: Courtesy of the artist Tamil dishes, permaculture, organic farming, and jazz all anchor artist Krishna McKenzie’s mind like few other things. With his band Emergence, he’s recently released the new album Cage, featuring songs that are all about life’s philosophies (and a dash of romance), which the British-origin pondered as he spent years living “the pioneer life.” “I know what it means to have no water and build your own hut from bamboo, coconut husks; to put a few bricks, make a fire, and cook your dinner on that fire under the stars every night,” he tells Rolling Stone India. “I know that life and the songs definitely have their roots in that.” There was a “simplicity” in that, gathering around the hippies who populated Auroville, as well as villagers. “It was a fire every night, with the music and friends,” he says. Founded in 2006 — a good decade after McKenzie began running Solitude Farm, an organic-focused café and farm — Emergence now have four albums and several achievements to their name, including playing Glastonbury Festival in 2009. Past members have included virtuoso artists like French bassist Mishko M’ba, and the nine-track Cage features bassist-producer and guitarist Dhani Muniz, trumpeter Edmund Held, drummer Joey Van Leeuwen, plus co-production, synth, and percussion by Navneeth Krishnan. Violinist-composer Karthick Iyer is also credited for “So Full,” a trippy, downtempo-turned-urgent tune. It features Tamil vocals by Snigdha Sharma but also sees McKenzie – who studied at the J. Krishnamurti School in Hampsire – dive deep into the core of Cage with lyrics like “The ancient urge to change oneself no longer can be found on pages of old books.” Speaking about the track, he says, “I wrote on the back of a very devastating love story. There were years of real deep introspection. Until you go into yourself, you won’t go beyond yourself. These songs are definitely a cathartic and healing thing for me.” Emergence in 2025. Photo: Courtesy of the artist The album’s opening track, “Ballad Of The Open Road,” was written by Auroville-based beat poet Roger Harris and sets the tone for an album with songs that gradually build up in tempo and mood rather than anything too jarring. It is perhaps a reflection of McKenzie’s approach to farming – to gently nurture a sound that starts off in pop songwriting and is fertilized by layers of jazz. McKenzie credits Dhani Muniz as a key collaborator for this sound, even remarking that he and Muniz’s dad were in a band a few decades ago. “All the stories behind these relationships and how things have grown, I guess you can hear it [in the songs],” McKenzie says. At the end of Cage, the mood lightens with “Carla’s Song,” in which McKenzie sings about love, “happiness without reservation,” and self-belief over a raw demo-like production treatment. He says, “Carla was a girl I had a little love scene with, she was just a very sweet and beautiful person. I remember walking down from my house, going to see this girl, and this incredible piece [of music] descended on me.” In the Instagram age, more people know McKenzie for his Reels and Tamil than older indie music fans who remember him from Emergence, as well as their festival, Lively Up Your Earth, hosted at Solitude Farm for more than a decade now. “It’s not been strategic,” he says about accruing over 560,000 Instagram followers who come for his food tips, recipes, plant facts, impeccable Tamil, and colored turbans. He explains, “About 20 years ago, I guess I had a really deep perception that the local foods that grow around us are the foundation of a culture.” McKenzie firmly believes that when people forget their local foods, they begin to lose their local culture as well. “You can see it’s happened in England, or, you know, or America, and then you have a fragmented society. So that sort of narrative became very clear to me, and the solution to that became very authentic, in the sense of what we’re doing at Solitude with farm-to-plate,” he adds. Much like his approach to creating content around sustainable living and eating, McKenzie says he never actively sought recognition as a musician, even with Emergence. They’ve had some recognition along the way, but have often been forgotten in the digital age, despite having three albums before Cage, including Here I’m (2008), Chosen By God (2010), and Can You Record Me (2017). There’s a possible tour in the works to promote Cage. McKenzie says, “It’s not easy because clubs and budgets and all that. And we’ve all got very different opinions.
