She co-founded the venture alongside her father and esteemed physician Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, who serves as the clinic’s Medical Director. Manushi Chhillar ventures into healthcare with SOMA Wellness in Mumbai With a strong academic background in medical studies and a deep-rooted passion for healthcare, Manushi, who was training to become a doctor before stepping into the limelight, aims to bridge global medical expertise with Indian healthcare needs. SOMA Wellness introduces evidence-based regenerative medicine treatments that were previously accessible only in leading centers across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. A Vision for Holistic, Science-Backed Healthcare SOMA Wellness has been established to deliver personalized, internationally practiced treatment protocols tailored to each individual. Wolf Alice Balance a Classic Sound With New Vigor on ‘The Clearing’

Entertainment Guitarist Joff Oddie takes us behind their fourth full-length, scaling up and the time they played at music festival Backdoors in 2018 in Mumbai and Bengaluru British rock band Wolf Alice. Photo: Rachel Fleminger Hudson In February 2018, British rock band Wolf Alice made their India debut at music festival Backdoors’ Mumbai and Bengaluru editions. On the back of their album Visions of a Life, the band brought a whirlwind of angsty and anthemic energy to Indian audiences. Guitarist Joff Oddie tells Rolling Stone India over an email interview, “We often say that coming to India was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had as a band. It was so much fun and we’d love to come back. We’ve yet to be offered, so anyone interested, please do reach out, as we’d love to return!” He underscores it again just as he signs off, hoping promoters can get Wolf Alice back to India. If they do make it back, this time it’ll be on the back of an equally (if not possibly more) acclaimed album, The Clearing, which released on Aug. 22, 2025 via Columbia U.K./RCA. The 11-track album—inspired by the Eighties and prior eras of rock songwriting—has already seen Wolf Alice shortlisted for the U.K.’s feted Mercury Prize, for the fourth time. That gives the band—comprising Oddie, vocalist-guitarist Ellie Rowsell, bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey—the distinction that they’ve shortlisted for each album now, even winning for Visions of a Life in 2018. Oddie says, “I think the shortlist is the important part, to be honest, and matters a lot more than who wins.” He’s caught up with all his fellow shortlisted acts as well, checking out everyone from singer-songwriter Jacob Alon to folk veteran Martin Carthy. “Also love that FKA Twigs record [Eusexua Afterglow], it sounds amazing. It’s an incredible forum for discovery and yes, we’re very honored to be a part of it!” Wolf Alice have released their fourth album ‘The Clearing.’ Photo: Rachel Fleminger Hudson. That kind of wide-ranging openness to absorbing music is perhaps what makes Wolf Alice’s The Clearing—produced by Los Angeles producer Greg Kurstin, whose credits include Adele, Paul McCartney and Beck—an inevitable hit. It takes its name from the song “Bread Butter Tea Sugar,” a sparkling, buoyant song in which Ellie Rowsell closes with a hushed but vivid description: “Under the shadow of a mountain/I pay no mind to move/There is still some scattered light/It warms me up like it could reach me inside/And then I come into a clearing.” Wolf Alice pack a punch with songs like the empowering, super-charged “Bloom Baby Bloom,” the cheery ode to female friendships “Just Two Girls,” (written and recorded in a day and a half) the pacey, psychedelic “White Horses” and confessional, Fleetwood Mac-esque cuts like “Leaning Against The Wall.” He says “Leaning Against The Wall” called for something that needed to be “sonically expressed in a more widescreen manner” on the theme love. Oddie adds, “So we put the programmed drums on it and some lush synths. Theo actually played the double bass on this tune, which was a first too!” When asked about the sonic influence from the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties, Oddie explains that how pop music of that time was largely played by bands. The pull of taking influence from music of those decades, Oddie says, was also about the importance towards “fundamentals.” He says, “There was limited tech also, so it felt like an emphasis was placed on the core elements of songwriting, musicianship and performance. Today, lots can be done with production and music tech, but back in the day you had to have these fundamentals on lock if you were going to do well. I think we were drawn to these ideas and maybe took a step back from modern processing, putting more of a focus on those key skills.” Thematically, Wolf Alice are more matured than ever, using hindsight, life lessons and more to find peace. The band have mentioned in interviews that it’s something that came from getting older, going after one’s 30s. Oddie says, “I think some people do start to maybe accept who they are a little more, and can often start to be a bit kinder to themselves, the older they get.” He’s quick to add that it’s not something that everyone may necessarily go through. He continues, “I think maybe becoming more comfortable with uncertainty. The Clearing, as a title, expresses a moment of peace one could have. Not necessarily out of the woods or having the answers to all one’s problems, but a moment of peace.” The band will head out on their biggest U.S. tour in the coming days. Oddie says, “The mood is very high at the moment. It’s been a crazy couple of months […] We’ve got some other big things coming up, what with the U.K. arena tour on the horizon too. So lots of plotting and planning!” Read More

Indie Unpacked: Manipuri Prog, Punjabi Pop, An Ace Psychedelic Jazz Collab and More

Entertainment Our roundup this week includes producer Hamza Rahimtula and Carnatic vocalist Dr R. Srikanth’s club-ready crossover, Bengaluru duo The Lucidwake’s anthemic debut EP and Naga singer-songwriter Abdon Mech’s latest, among others If anyone ever said Indian independent music didn’t push boundaries enough, they need to hear the latest experiments across language, genres and themes. We’re covering exactly that in this edition of Indie Unpacked, including DJ-producer Sartek’s latest folk-house offering, guitarist-composer Karan Khosla’s jazz innovation, Punjabi artist Gxrnoor’s trilingual collab with London singer-songwriter Nicole Blakk and more. Death By Anjuna – “Al Esh” Kolkata filmmaker and musician Q, under his moniker Doktorgandu, teams up with Bengaluru-origin producer The Burning Deck aka Sandeep Madhavan create an urgent, intense electronica message for resistance and strength in “Al Esh.” The focus of the Bengali and English lyrics as well as the vertical music video (featuring miniature models of homes on fire, public footage of bombing and shots of the artists) is the ongoing destruction of Palestine. Through a bit of rap and sung hooks, Doktorgandu highlights the machinations that have led to the current state of the disputed territory. Sartek – “Sufi Tech” DJ-producer Sartek continues pushing his distinct folk-house sound on his latest single “Sufi Tech,” which samples the legendary qawwali powerhouse Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s vocals on the track “Tumhen Dil Lagi Bhool Jani Paregee” from the Nineties. Sartek deftly balances the dancefloor vibes and also lets Khan’s inimitable vocal prowess shine at different points, crafting a roving track. Sartek says, “I wanted to bring the soul of Sufi music into modern dance culture — whether it’s a packed nightclub, a wedding dance floor, or your late-night drive home. This one is meant to move your body and stir something inside you.” Ajay Varma – “The Fading Room” London-based, India-origin producer and rock artist Ajay Varma is a reminiscent mood on his prog song “The Fading Room.” Bearing the songwriting and composing influence of artists like Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson and Pink Floyd, the song is regal, electronic and takes on a dark journey. Varma says, “The song is written in a first-person perspective, but it is inspired by real-life experience watching a loved one slip away into the shadows of memory loss. Through soft yet haunting melodies and intimate lyrics, the song paints the quiet tragedy of forgetting like a calendar with days that make no sense, a mirror reflecting a stranger and familiar voices and faces dissolving in the rain.” Atingkok – “Namaida” Imphal folk-inspired alternative band Atingkok—who just often end up making heavy music—dive into prog, sludge and djent on their new song “Namaida,” the second track from their upcoming album 2050. With the title translating to “on your face,” it’s a damning indictment of the corruption among those in power and raises a question of resistance. In the music video directed by the band’s Pa Thawan along with filmmaker and director of photography, Tushar Nongthombam, a visceral story of a beaten down individual (portrayed by Surjit Nongmeikapam) plays out over stomping, wiry riffs. The band said in a statement, “This is the voice of the people who won’t disappear. A collective memory turned electric. We don’t whisper. You’ll feel it — on your face.” The Lucidwake – Whiteout EP Bengaluru rock band The Lucidwake have been steadily releasing singles since 2023 and now, with their latest single “Root N Ash,” they’ve rounded out their debut EP Whiteout and already announced their next project, a full-length album called Blackout. This four-track EP, for its part, establishes their penchant for anthems, with “Root N Ash” having quieter moments alongside scorching solos. “Bleed” is a driving, fiery and cathartic track, while “Through Mars” is aptly spacey and “Don’t Stop” a synth-infused tip of the hat to Eighties prog. The band says in a statement, “When you listen to this record, we want you to know that you can survive anything,” Vihaa shares “I needed the music to save me. It’s how I carved myself out of a dark spot. It has the wickedness. It has the self-rediscovery. It also keeps my faith intact. I hope all the Lucids [fans] see themselves in it.” The Jass B’stards, Jeet Thayil – “The Haunts” Few bands can distill the hypnotic energy of their live performances into a studio performance like New Delhi-origin act The Jass B’stards. Their latest song “The Haunts” is testament to that, steady rhythms building and melting away over eerie guitars and keys, topped off by poet-musician Jeet Thayil’s unmistakable spoken-word poetry. From a telepathic ginger cat to illicit substances, there’s striking visual imagery evoked by Thayil, and if that wasn’t enough, the band’s Stefan Kaye cuts together footage from films from the 1920s for a haunting 10-minute offering. Particularly, the track’s atmosphere was complemented largely by 1926 Japanese silent film A Page of Madness. “Our collaborations with Jeet have always been an inspiring journey into the depths of language and sound. His words have a musicality of their own,” Kaye says. Thayiladds, “‘The Haunts’ is occult allegory, a prayer against nightmare, a talisman, some old invocation to raise the dead.” Abdon Mech – “Noye Lhokuthu Iwu” Fresh from his trip to Budapest for a songwriting camp earlier this year, Nagaland singer-songwriter Abdon Mech has released his first song of 2025 called “Noye Lhokuthu Iwu” in the Sumi Naga tongue. There’s a gentle, nostalgic synth-pop touch to the track, driven by Mech’s comforting, romantic lyrics. He says in a statement, “There’s always been a very folk touch to the way songs have been sung/written in the Sumi Naga language. I wanted to challenge that and for the first time, give it a touch of indie pop to our beautiful language.” The song is taken from his upcoming second EP, Not Overthinking This. Gxrnoor – “Sonya” It’s well-documented now that Punjabi pop has gone global and the likes of singer-songwriter Gxrnoor aka Gurnoor Anand is getting to work capitalizing on the movement. She teams up with London singer-songwriter Nicole Blakk for

BamBam Finds Freedom in ‘Dancing By Myself’

Entertainment BamBam makes a stylish statement, both personal and professional – a return to his roots, and a redefinition of his music, featuring Timethai BamBam for “Dancing By Myself.” Photo: courtesy of the artist. BamBam’s sound has always been a moving target, a shape-shifter evolving with each new release of his. You just can’t pin him down to one specific style; he has experimented with indie pop in “Who Are You,” dabbled in mid-tempo hip-hop with “Slow Mo,” and taken it up a notch with the pop-rock “Ride or Die.” More recently, the rhythms of Latin pop took center stage in the sultry “Mi Ultimo Deseo,” further solidifying him as an artist who refuses to be typecast. He told Rolling Stone India, back in 2022, “I always have a surprise for everyone. So if you stay ready, then you’re ready to go.” And with his newest release, “Dancing By Myself,” BamBam is redelivering on that promise, making it clear that he’s still got plenty up his sleeve. Against the neon-soaked sprawl of Bangkok, BamBam’s “Dancing By Myself” is an energy all its own. This pre-release dance single from his upcoming album, his first Thai album, Hometown, is an invitation to lose yourself in the moment and let the song consume you. BamBam’s dance background, rooted in his years with Got7, definitely made him the performer and the arresting presence that he is. But “Dancing By Myself” showcases a different side of his choreography—one that’s intimate, almost sensual, as he moves fluidly through this sky lounge, making use of the space’s architecture to frame his movements, and its sleek backdrop, in fact, reflecting the song’s themes of independence and self-discovery. The song is very hip and sassy, still easy on the ears, and it all works, as BamBam’s voice, beats, and guitar sounds mix smoothly. When popular Thai pop and R&B star Timethai jumps in, he brings his energy, his cool vocals, and his swag to the mix. And when the two of them share the screen, energy picks up pace but without disrupting the inherent chill vibe of the song. The song title “Dancing By Myself” is a distinct message in itself: to embrace being alone, to find your groove, and to enjoy your own company. The chorus lines, “If you want to dance, then dance with somebody; I think it’s fine to be without someone for a night; I just want to groove; I just wanted you to know that I’ll be all night dancing by myself,” carry that message, reminding us of our complex, often isolated modern lives. BamBam (left) and Timethai (right) for “Dancing By Myself.” Photo: courtesy of the artist. BamBam’s artistic vision and attention to detail come together in his music videos—from the color palette to the overall aesthetics. As he previously stated, color plays a significant role in the identity of his songs and albums. “If I want this album’s color to be pink, then it has to be bright and full of energy. But if I want this album to be red, then it’s going to be strong.” In “Dancing By Myself,” the emphasis on color is again on display. The nighttime cityscape makes a beautiful backdrop, and the muted black and white outfits look stunning against the shining decor in the lounge bar. The cityscape itself becomes a character in the song, with neon lights, skyscrapers, and nighttime energy all blending in. The visuals and music in unison are a heady mix of emotion and an intoxicating rush to “Just sip alcohol under the lights.” “With my song tonight, that’s enough,” as BamBam serenades and goes “Just me on the floor/Like I got it all.” “Dancing By Myself,” in essence, is BamBam’s fusion of high fashion and polished production, a stylish preview of what to expect from his forthcoming album, Hometown, releasing on October 10. And with this homecoming, he’s taking his music to a new level, blending his culture and language with global sensibilities. Read More

Foo Fighters Debut New Drummer Ilan Rubin at Surprise Show

Entertainment Dave Grohl called Rubin “the most badass” at the California theater show, which included both hits and deep cuts Grohl called new Foo Fighters drummer Ilan Rubin “the most badass motherfucker” at a surprise show Saturday night Ritzau Scanpix/AFP via Getty Images Foo Fighters performed with new drummer Ilan Rubin for the first time Saturday night at their first show of 2025, in San Luis Obispo, California’s 900-capacity Fremont Theater. Rubin, formerly of Nine Inch Nails, joined the band this summer after the Foos parted ways with Josh Freese, who had stepped in after the 2022 death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins. At one point, frontman Dave Grohl introduced Rubin from the stage. “Everybody else has said it,” Grohl said. “I finally get the opportunity to say, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome…’ The most badass motherfucker, Ilan Rubin, is playing drums in the Foo Fighters right now. It’s official. You can stamp the passport.” The surprise performance, announced the day before, featured 25 songs in all, including hits like “Everlong” and “Learn to Fly,” and a handful of tracks that haven’t been played live in several years.  Among them was “Exhausted,” from the Foos’ first album, which Grohl wrote while he was still in Nirvana and even played for Kurt Cobain as a potential song for that band. They also played “Winnebago,” another Grohl composition that preceded the existence of the Foos. The announcement for the show on the Foos’ Instagram included a teaser of what appeared to be a new track. After tribute to Charlie Kirk, K-pop boy band Super Junior’s Choi Siwon gets outcasted by fellow band members

Entertainment A video of Super Junior members Choi Siwon and Leeteuk interacting has become a topic of discussion on social media.
