Tencent Has Changed the Steam Page of Light of Motiram After Sony’s Horizon Lawsuit

A Quiet Move for Light of Motiram Tencent has made quiet but notable changes to the Steam page for its upcoming title, Light of Motiram. It happened just days after Sony filed a lawsuit accusing it of being a “slavish clone” of Horizon. Filed in a California court at the end of July, Sony’s complaint highlighted striking resemblances between the two games. Both are set in post-apocalyptic worlds inhabited by giant robotic dinosaurs, with vast natural environments ranging from tropical forests to snowy mountains. Each features a red-haired female protagonist wearing similar outfits, using devices akin to Aloy’s “Focus” earpiece. According to the lawsuit, Tencent began developing Light of Motiram in 2023 and approached Sony at the 2024 Game Developers Conference seeking a license to make a Horizon game. Sony declined, but claims Tencent continued development regardless. Sony says it later tried to resolve the dispute informally, only for Tencent to again request a license before pushing ahead with promotion and playtests. Since the lawsuit became public, The Game Post reported that Tencent updated Light of Motiram’s Steam page. They removed several screenshots and trailers and replaced the original cover art that featured a character resembling Aloy. Now, it has a less controversial image, a revised description, and has changed its release window from “To Be Announced” to “Q4 2027.” It is unclear if these adjustments will address Sony’s concerns. The company is suing for copyright and trademark infringement. As well as false designation of origin, and damages of up to 150,000 dollars per infringed work. Naeem Revives Spank Rock for New Song “Bankroll Peelers”: Listen

Naeem, the artist formerly known as Spank Rock, has revived his own alter ego for a new song, “Bankroll Peelers.” The track, credited to Naeem featuring Spank Rock, also has contributions from producers Sam Greens, Noah Beresin, and Matti Free, as well as Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, who sings backing vocals in the chorus. Check it out below. Naeem said in press materials, “Spank Rock is the Goat! Actually, he’s not the goat; he’s a Coyote, Monkey, Loki, or Eshu. Instead of feeling at odds creatively with my past and where I want to go, I invited my younger self back into the room. Spank Rock’s ephemeral energy rearranged the order of things. Personally, I feel like I’m more risk-adverse than Spank Rock is. It’s fun to work with someone who doesn’t care how people perceive him. Chance the Rapper Announces Fall 2025 Tour

On Friday, August 15, Chance the Rapper returns with the new album Star Line. He’s now announced a tour to support the new project. Bobby Whitlock, Derek & the Dominos Co-Founder and Storied Session Musician, Dies at 77

Bobby Whitlock, the singer-keyboardist and co-founder of 1970s blues-rock band Derek & the Dominos alongside Eric Clapton, has died, according to his manager, Carol Kaye. In a statement to Variety, Kaye shared that Whitlock died earlier this morning following a cancer diagnosis. He was 77. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 18, 1948, Robert Stanley Whitlock gravitated toward music at a young age, both as a fan and a student interested in learning the keyboard and organ. As a teenager, Whitlock started befriending artists in the Stax Records orbit, including Booker T. & the M.G.’s, the Staples Singers, Albert King, and others, eventually weaseling his way into their circuit by way of that respectful admiration. After he earned his first proper recording credit performing handclaps on Sam & Dave’s single “I Thank You,” he signed to Stax—making him the first white artist to join the label’s roster—and played organ regularly around the local scene, in part with the soul bands Short Cuts and the Counts. Though Stax mentor Steve Cropper took him under his wing and Donald “Duck” Dunn and Don Nix were planning to produce a pop album by him, Whitlock decided to leave Memphis to pursue music with the rock and soul duo Delaney & Bonnie. He played keys and contributed additional vocals on their two 1969 albums, Home and Accept No Substitute. While touring with the duo, Whitlock met numerous musicians that he would collaborate with later on in his career, like Bobby Keys and Jim Price, as well as future Derek & the Dominos members Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. When Delaney & Bonnie opened for Clapton’s supergroup Blind Faith, Whitlock and Clapton crossed paths for the first time. (Looking back on that leg, Clapton would describe Whitlock as “the most energetic sideman I had ever seen.”) Once Delaney & Bonnie dropped their live album On Tour with Eric Clapton in 1970, Whitlock was eager to test his skills in a new band. He reunited with Clapton, Radle, and Gordon for a quick session before getting an invite to join Clapton on his debut solo album, Eric Clapton, and to accompany George Harrison in the studio as he recorded All Things Must Pass, the late guitarist’s third solo album and first following the Beatles’ breakup. Whitlock contributed heavily to that Billboard No. 1 album, playing organ, piano, harmonium, tubular bells, and backing vocals on most tracks, including the hits “My Sweet Lord” and “What Is Life.” Upon regrouping, the four musicians started Derek & the Dominos as a blues-rock group focused on forming ideas at a natural pace and reveling in their relaxed friendship. After welcoming guitarist Dave Mason and coming up with their new band name, a rushed idea-turned-bungled onstage introduction, Derek & the Dominos played their first show and then entered the studio in June 1970 to record the singles “Tell the Truth” and “Roll It Over” with Phil Spector. That autumn, after Mason’s departure, they hit up producer Tom Dowd to track their debut full-length: the 1970 double album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Together, Whitlock and Clapton wrote effortlessly romantic blues-rock hits like “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Layla,” the latter a seven-minute sprawler that, belatedly, became a staple of classic rock radio and a highlight of Clapton’s career overall. They recorded only one studio LP together, but it’s since considered to be a classic of the genre for its songwriting and performances—including one from the Allman Brothers Band’s Duane Allman, who brought extensive contributions on lead and slide guitar, although he was not technically a member of the band. Halfway through writing their second album, Derek & the Dominos dissolved in a fit of tension and depression following the death of numerous friends in the months prior; Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident, and Jimi Hendrix died suddenly in his girlfriend’s apartment. Whitlock’s songwriting ideas continued to flow freely, and he returned to the studio to start his own solo career. He released his self-titled debut studio album in 1972 and followed it with Raw Velvet later that same year. He went on to record four more solo albums, a few live LPs, and a handful of collaborative full-lengths with his partner Coco Carmel. Whitlock also steadily contributed to other artists’ records, including Dr John’s The Sun, Moon & Herbs, Clapton’s The History of Eric Clapton, and Manassas’ Down the Road. Whitlock also famously appeared, uncredited, on the Rolling Stones’ essential 1972 album, Exile on Main St. In 2024, Whitlock was awarded a Brass Music Note on Memphis’ own Beale Street Walk of Fame for his work. “My business is to try to conduct myself as a decent person and a gentleman as much as I can, get through this world, navigate through this without making too many waves. But when you make them, make them big—ones to remember,” Whitlock told local outlet Everything Knoxville. “I know the role that I’ve been playing in everyone’s music that I was a part of. U2 Release Statements on Israel and Gaza

The members of U2—Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—have each released their own individual statements on Israel’s ongoing starvation of the Gaza Strip. The statements were shared on the band’s Instagram and website, alongside the following joint message: “Everyone has long been horrified by what is unfolding in Gaza – but the blocking of humanitarian aid and now plans for a military takeover of Gaza City has taken the conflict into uncharted territory. We are not experts in the politics of the region, but we want our audience to know where we each stand.” Bono began his statement by reflecting on reflecting on the October 7, 2023, attacks against Israel by Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that governs the Gaza Strip. He discussed the work of his ONE organization, which combats HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa, before acknowledging that “there is no hierarchy to such things.” “[W]hen the loss of non-combatant life en masse appears so calculated… especially the deaths of children, then ‘evil’ is not a hyperbolic adjective,” he wrote. “[I]n the sacred text of Jew, Christian, and Muslim it is an evil that must be resisted.” Bono went on to condemn former Hamas chairman Yahya Sinwar and call the October 7 attacks “a diabolical trap for Israel and to get a war going that might just redraw the map from ‘The river to the sea.’” He drew parallels to the 2015 terrorist attack at Paris’ Bataclan theater. “But I also understood that Hamas are not the Palestinian people,” he added, “a people who have for decades endured and continue to endure marginalization, oppression, occupation, and the systematic stealing of the land that is rightfully theirs.” While he accused both Hamas and Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war, Bono clarified his belief that “the Government of Israel led by Benjamin Netanyahu today deserves our categorical and unequivocal condemnation.” Bono concluded his note by avowing his belief in a two-state solution, affirming U2’s solidarity with “the people of Palestine who truly seek a path to peace and coexistence with Israel,” and urging Israeli citizens to demand that humanitarian aid organizations are allowed into Gaza and the West Bank. The statements from Clayton, the Edge, and Mullen Jr. largely echoed Bono’s sentiments—condemning both Netanyahu and Hamas, pointing out the war’s long term repercussions for Israel, and calling for an influx of aid into Gaza. Bono: Apart from the attack on the Nova music festival on October 7th, which felt like it happened while U2 were on stage at Sphere Las Vegas, I have generally tried to stay out of the politics of the Middle East… this was not humility, more uncertainty in the face of obvious complexity… I have over recent months written about the war in Gaza in The Atlantic and spoken about it in The Observer, but I circled the subject. As a cofounder of the ONE Campaign, which tackles AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa, I felt my experience should be on the catastrophes facing that work and that part of the world. The hemorrhaging of human life in Sudan or Ethiopia hardly makes the news. Sudan alone is beyond comprehension, with a civil war that has left 150,000 dead and 2 million people facing famine. And that was before the dismantling of USAID in March and gutting of PEPFAR, life-saving programs for the poorest of the poor that ONE has fought for decades to protect… the cuts to which will likely lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children over the next few years. But but but… there is no hierarchy to such things. The images of starving children on the Gaza Strip brought me back to a working trip to a food station in Ethiopia my wife Ali and I made 40 years ago next month following U2’s participation in Live Aid 1985. Another man-made famine. To witness chronic malnutrition up close would make it personal for any family, especially as it affects children.Because when the loss of non-combatant life en masse appears so calculated… especially the deaths of children, then ‘evil’ is not a hyperbolic adjective… in the sacred text of Jew, Christian, and Muslim it is an evil that must be resisted. The rape, murder, and abduction of Israelis at the Nova music festival was evil. On that awful Saturday night/Sunday morning of October 7/8 2023, I wasn’t thinking about politics. On stage in the Nevada desert, I just couldn’t help but express the pain everyone in the room was feeling and is still feeling for other music lovers and fans like us — hiding under a stage in Kibbutz Re’im then butchered to set a diabolical trap for Israel and to get a war going that might just redraw the map from ‘The river to the sea’… a gamble Hamas’ leadership were willing to play with the lives of two million Palestinians… to sow the seeds for a global intifada that U2 had glimpsed at work in Paris during the Bataclan attack in 2015… but only if Israel’s leaders fell for this trap that Hamas set for them. Yahya Sinwar didn’t mind if he lost the battle or even the war if he could destroy Israel as a moral as well as an economic force. Over the next months as Israel’s revenge for the Hamas attack appeared more and more disproportionate and disinterested in the equally innocent civilian lives in Gaza… I felt as nauseous as everyone, but reminded myself Hamas had deliberately positioned themselves under civilian targets, having tunneled their way from school to mosque to hospital. Gerwig’s “Narnia” Movie Begins Filming

20th Century Studios It’s official, “Barbie” filmmaker Greta Gerwig has begun filming her next feature – “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew”. Set photos have begun popping up online from the film, which will adapt “The Magician’s Nephew,” the first chronological story in C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” series (the second being the more well-known “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”). Filming begins nearly seven years after Netflix first announced plans to adapt the novels all the way back in October 2018. Shooting has taken place around Bank Station and The Royal Exchange in London, with multiple lavish sets recreating post-war Britain in the 1950s. That marks a change from the book’s original late 19th-century Victorian-era setting, but it fits in with recent reports of such a time change. Such a time shift could have big implications for future adaptations. Set photos also appear to show young and as yet unidentified actors believed to be playing Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer in the film. Various parts of England’s South and South East are expected to be used in the shoot, as will Shepperton Studios. Other cast rumoured includes Emma Mackey as The White Witch, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Carey Mulligan in an unspecified role, and Meryl Streep as Aslan, but Netflix has yet to announce any cast names.. UFC Goes To Paramount+ For $7.7 Billion

Paramount has announced a new $7.7 billion deal with TKO spanning seven years, a deal that will see Paramount+ become the new streaming home to UFC events in the United States. The deal is backend-weighted and valued at $1.1 billion annually. When international UFC rights become available, Paramount reportedly intends to pursue them too. Under the deal, the UFC PPV model is being retired – instead, these premium events, along with the more regular ‘Fight Nights’, will be made available at no additional cost to all Paramount+ subscribers. Some of the numbered events will also be simulcast on CBS. David Ellison, the chairman and CEO of Paramount following its acquisition by Skydance, says in a statement: “I couldn’t be more excited to join forces with Dana, Ari and Mark. Rarely do opportunities arise to partner on an exclusive basis with a global sports powerhouse like UFC — an organisation with extraordinary global recognition, scale and cultural impact.” This marks the first official major move by Paramount following the close of the Skydance deal. Trailer: Adult Comedy Series “Haunted Hotel”

Netflix Netflix has premiered the trailer for their new adult animated comedy series “Haunted Hotel” which launches next month. In the series, a single mother of two struggles to run a haunted hotel with the help of her estranged brother, who is now one of the ghosts haunting the hotel and thinks the other ghosts have some pretty good ideas. Will Forte, Eliza Coupe, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides, Jimmi Simpson, Drew Tarver and Duncan Trussell lend their voices to the project. Multiple “Rick and Morty” and “Community” alum are behind the series which was created by Matt Roller who also serves as the showrunner and an executive producer. Also executive producing are Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, and Steve Levy. Titmouse is handling the animation with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina also executive producing.
