6 films withdrawn from IFFK after Ministry of External Affairs raises objections

Entertainment The International Film Festival Of Kerala (IFFK) finds itself at the vortex of a major controversy after the Kerala Chalachitra Academy has decided not to screen six films at the IFFK after the Ministry of External Affairs raised strong objections. 6 films withdrawn from IFFK after Ministry of External Affairs raises objections The Ministry even warned of legal action, saying the six films went against the country’s foreign policy and could affect national security. In an exclusive conversation, Resul Pookutty, the chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, which curates films for the IFFK, explained the situation. “Out of the nineteen films that were referred to the Ministry Of External Affairs, twelve films were cleared and one film anyway we were not to show as it didn’t have a CBFC certificate. And remaining six films were refused exhibition.” Resul said that he consented to withhold the screening of those six film voluntarily. “I had the Government Of Kerala’s backing to show these six films but resisted from it as the Chief Secretary’s note suggested that we may be compliant with the I&B’s order… The consent for these films were not given in relation to India’s foreign policy, I was told… The Chalachitra Academy thought that we as Indians must first respect our national interest rather than showing defiance in screening certain films. It was purely the Academy’s decision, and I stand by that.” Also Read: Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty on crafting longing for Gustaakh Ishq: “These sounds carry memory of people” BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama. Priyanka Chopra rebuts Varanasi budget claim by Kapil Sharma

Entertainment Priyanka Chopra (R) with Kapil Sharma Updated on :  20 Dec 2025, 6:21 pm A recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, featuring Priyanka Chopra, saw some hilarious banter between the host and the guest. Kapil made some jokes about the production scale and the budget of Priyanka’s first Telugu film, Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli and co-starring Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Kapil quipped, “No job that Priyanka undertakes is small. Everything she is part of is larger than life. Even when she does a film, it is with Rajamouli sir, and we know that he makes big budget films.” Then, Kapil joked that the makers of Rajamouli and Priyanka’s next film are also using a part of its 1,300 crore budget to help the people of Varanasi earn jobs. “Will you be just making the film with the 1,300 crore or will it also help provide jobs for the people of Varanasi?” he quipped, eliciting a big laugh from the guest. Kapil also claimed that Priyanka’s entry into the project increased the film’s budget. “Is this true? I want to confirm it with you,” Kapil asked Priyanka. In response, Priyanka rhetorically said, “Are you trying to say that half the budget has gone into my bank account?” Priyanka eventually ended the banter by saying that Kapil was only trying to take advantage of her by making such implications about the film’s budget. Soon, Navjot Singh Sidhu interjected the conversation, asking, what kind of film is it even to justify such a big budget. Kapil replied to the former cricketer by rhetorically saying that Priyanka would not reveal the film’s plot. “Even Rajamouli sir did not reveal why Kattappa killed Baahubali until the second part came out. So do you think she (Priyanka) would reveal the film?” Kapil quipped.  Read More

James Cameron criticises The Academy for snubbing sci-films, especially Avatar and Dune

Entertainment Avatar helmer James Cameron (L), Dune franchise still Updated on :  20 Dec 2025, 5:39 pm Filmmaker James Cameron has doubled down on his criticism for the Academy Awards. The director said that he never thinks about the marquee award event at any stage of a film, whether it be pre-preproduction, principal photography, post-production, or post-release. Speaking to The Globe and Mail, Cameron criticised The Academy for snubbing science fiction films, such as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies. The writer-director does not make films to cater to the sensibilities of The Academy voters, because he thinks that the Oscars do not honour sci-fi films. According to Cameron, the Director’s Guild failed to recognise Villeneuve as a filmmaker.  “Like okay, you can play the awards game or you can play the game I like to play and that’s to make movies people actually go to,” Cameron said.  Interestingly, Cameron’s comments stand in stark contrast with the Oscar wins for the first two films in the Avatar franchise in the technical categories. Further, he went into the record books for making the film with the highest Academy Award wins, Titanic with 11, a record it holds alongside The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Ben-Hur. Titanic is also the film with the most Oscar nominations (14), a record it shares with La La Land and All About Eve. Interestingly, back in the 1990s, critics were of the consesus that LA Confidential was a better film than Titanic, although the latter won Best Picture Oscar. Cameron’s contention with The Academy is not new. The filmmaker, who called himself ‘King of the World’ after his Titanic Oscar win, first took a major stance against the organisation after losing 2010 Best Picture Oscar to The Hurt Locker and Best Director to his former wife and the said war film’s maker Kathryn Bigelow. He has often rebuked the institution’s apparent prioritisation of conventional dramas over technical blockbusters and science fiction. Speaking of which, Cameron’s latest film Avatar: Fire and Ash hit theatres on December 19, Friday.  Read More

Anaswara Rajan: I watched Allu Arjun’s films thinking he is a Malayalam actor

Entertainment Updated on :  20 Dec 2025, 3:46 pm Allu Arjun has been having a massive fan base in Kerala since the early 2000s, especially since the release of films such as Arya and Happy, and his films were dubbed before their release in the state. Therefore, it might not appear too strange for Malayali audiences when a young actor from Kerala say that they watched Allu Arjun films dubbed in Malayalam without knowing that they are actually Telugu films. In a recent conversation with Gulte, actor Anaswara Rajan said that she thought that Allu Arjun was “one of the Malayalam actors,” because he was a prominent part of the popular culture back in Kerala during her childhood. Interestingly, the actor, who is making her Telugu debut with Champion, said that this was not strictly the case with Allu Arjun alone and that she watched Malayalam dubbed versions of Telugu films for a long time without even realising their origin. The actor said that the first time she realised that she was watching a Telugu film was with SS Rajamouli’s 2009 film Magadheera, starring Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal, among others. Interestingly, the first Telugu film that Anaswara saw in her life is Sri Rama Rajayam, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Nayanthara, among others. The actor’s first film in Telugu, Champion, co-starring Roshann Meka and directed by Pradeep Advaitham, is slated for a Christmas release. She was recently seen in the Malayalam thriller Rekhachithram, co-starring Asif Ali. Read More

Gurram Paapi Reddy trimmed by 20 minutes after early audience response

Entertainment The team of Gurram Paapi Reddy Updated on :  20 Dec 2025, 3:22 pm Gurram Paapi Reddy, which hit theatres on Friday, has been receiving positive reviews from audiences. Starring Naresh Agastya and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles and directed by Murali Manohar, the film has been appreciated for its humour and quirky storytelling. However, some viewers felt that the film was slightly lengthy, prompting the makers to revisit the final cut. Confirming the development, director Murali Manohar said that nearly 20 minutes have been trimmed from the film based on audience feedback. “After receiving responses from viewers, we decided to reduce the runtime by about 20 minutes. The trimmed version has been screening from the evening shows since yesterday,” he said. A couple of songs and a few scenes were removed, bringing the film’s total runtime down to two hours and 25 minutes. The director expressed happiness with the film’s overall reception. He noted that the morning shows were initially affected due to the simultaneous release of the Hollywood film Avatar: Fire and Ash, but collections improved as the day progressed. “The morning shows were a bit dull, but by the evening, the response picked up well,” he said, adding that the team is encouraged by the turnout for a small-budget film. According to the director, several theatres recorded close to 90 per cent occupancy during evening shows, which he described as a positive sign. “The word of mouth has been encouraging, and I am hopeful that the film will perform even better over the weekend,” he added. Buoyed by the response, the team has intensified promotions. “We will be visiting theatres and are also planning promotional tours in Andhra Pradesh over the next few days,” Murali Manohar said, concluding that the makers are confident about the film’s prospects at the box office.
