How Labubu Fans Are Using Gaming Tactics to Nab the Summer’s Hottest Trend

Entertainment Whether it’s playing a game — or gaming the system — people are figuring out how to get their hands on Pop Mart’s little plush monsters Labubus have become the summer’s essential accessory — and people are working hard to get their own CFOTO/Future Publishing/Getty Images A massive, digital “how-to” economy has sprung up seemingly overnight, all centered around this summer’s hottest accessory: a small, plush monster hanging from a keychain known as a Labubu. Legitimate versions of the bunny-eared, snaggle-toothed, elf-like plushies (based on a character inspired by Nordic fairytales), made to be hung on pocketbooks, off beltloops, or from a car’s rearview mirror, are hard to come by. If you’re looking for the real thing — and you don’t want to deal with the inflated second-hand market — you’ll have to go through Pop Mart, the Chinese company that manufactures them. But you can’t just walk into a store or buy them online. In order to get one, you have to be online when they have one of their regular “restocks,” and supplies usually sell out within minutes. Either that, or you can play the Pop Now game, where if you’re quick enough, you can win the right to purchase one.  That scarcity, and the toys’ adoption in the fashion, music, and LGBTQ+ communities, have driven the demand for Labubu to heights reminiscent of the 1990s obsession with Beanie Babies. The people who have cracked the code on how to buy them at face value are garnering hundreds of new social media followers, teaching the rest of us, who may have Lafufu’s (bootlegs often sold in bodegas or on sites like Shein) or can’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars on reseller stock on eBay or StockX, how to join in on the fun. “My Labubu content performs very well,” says Linda Stahl (@SleepySpoof on TikTok), who bought her first Labubu for $25 on Japanese marketplace app Mercari early this year. “I joined Discord communities and watched TikToks to understand the restocking concept. Every time I post an updated method on TikTok, people love it.” Expert Labubu buyers like Stahl have put in hours of research to hone their craft, swiping back and forth on the official Labubu retailer app into the wee hours of the night to secure more of the fuzzy little monsters. And with Pop Mart constantly changing the rules and regulations for buying a Labubu through its gamified Pop Now feature, content creators must update their tips and tricks consistently.  It feels eerily similar to video game websites offering guides to those struggling with the latest Super Mario game — except it’s IRL toys being bought with very real money. The gamification of Labubu Getting a Labubu at face value feels like winning a game, especially when the rules are always changing. To nab one, you have to log onto the Pop Mart app at the exact right time — many Labubu experts believe Pop Mart restocks the little monsters on Thursday evenings, and from my research, that appears to be the case. Then you’ll have to navigate a series of hurdles that require you to know your way around a smartphone or tablet (effectively removing boomers from the buyer’s market) and have both mountains of patience and lightning-fast reflexes.  Potential Labubu buyers can (and often do) encounter speed bumps during this process: The app can crash, you can get locked out for clicking too swiftly through the storefront, or you can watch helplessly as an available Labubu disappears before your eyes. Many have spent hours trying to buy one, to no avail. Or, enterprising collectors have hoovered up half a dozen Labubu, just to find out at check-out that none of them are the colorway they want (the plushies are sold in blind boxes, requiring you to pay before digitally opening them up to reveal what’s inside).   Earlier this month, Labubu catchers had figured out a “URL trick,” or hack, which requires you to use a web browser (not the app), copy the Labubu URL, add an item’s box number to the end of that URL in the browser bar, then replace the four middle digits with random numbers. The results were reportedly full sets (six boxes) of Labubu available to purchase immediately. The glory of securing so many in one go was short-lived, however, as PopMart quickly made changes on the site’s back-end to prevent the trick’s use. Learning the Labubu ways Stahl had never heard of Pop Mart before getting into Labubu, but she now owns over a dozen. She says the digital storefront has undergone major changes within the last year, all of which require Labubu buyers to switch up their approach regularly. It feels, in many ways, like a live-service video game that regularly tweaks its gameplay or adjusts its character roster, requiring players to adjust their playstyle in order to succeed. “In the beginning, there were no set drop times and no pre-orders,” she explains. “There was a 15-minute timer [to keep a Labubu in your cart] that you could refresh. I would sit there and wait for it to count down and furiously tap the grey locked box.” She discovered a method on TikTok “where you use one thumb to tap and one thumb to click randomly on a part of the box.” She adapted this technique to better suit her style (much like a gamer would) and began “scoring” Labubu with ease. PopMart has since made the “two-thumb” method nearly impossible to pull off — using both fingers on the screen may accidentally mimic the movement of a bot, and the app will ban you from using it for an undisclosed period.  Stahl sees her TikTok content as a personal duty, a way to help spread the Labubu wealth. Though it’s unclear if PopMart is purposefully keeping Labubu stock low to increase demand (the company did not reply to a request for comment), she believes that PopMart is “much better at making sure everyone gets one now” because of the barriers put in place to prevent bots from snatching all

Tom Cruise Rocks Out at Oasis Reunion Even Though the Gallaghers Don’t Like His Movies

Entertainment Tom Cruise arrives at the U.S. premiere of ‘Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning.’ Cindy Ord/Getty Images Tom Cruise popped up at one of Oasis’ reunion gigs in London over the weekend, officially putting to rest any lingering rumors surrounding the incredibly low stakes and deep cut (certainly by Oasis’ standards) beef between the actor and band. Cruise kept a relatively low profile at Oasis’ July 25 gig at Wembley Stadium, but he was spotted by the DJ/producer Goldie, who happened to be sitting a few rows ahead of him. Cruise can be seen in the background of one video Goldie posted on social media, while the DJ also snapped a selfie with the movie star.  While it would obviously make sense for a gigantic movie star who largely resides in London to attend one of the biggest concert events of the year, Cruise and Oasis do have a prickly history, as NME notes. Back in Oasis’ 2007 tour doc, Lord Don’t Slow Me Down, there’s a scene in which brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher find some rare common ground, which just so happens to be roasting Cruise.  “He’s a little fucker, and he’s not been in one good film in his entire career,” Noel declared.  Liam then proclaimed that Cocktail was “great,” then seemingly dismissed the (actually correct) opinions of others in the room who said Eyes Wide Shut was good, too. Liam then added, “I hate Tom Cruise. Bastard. Him and [footballer] Michael Owen.” If these comments ever rankled Cruise, it seems like he’s gotten past them, certainly for the good of Rock & Roll. Also, for what it’s worth, there was a very classically vague tabloid report in 2009 suggesting that, a couple of years after Lord Don’t Slow Me Down, Cruise and Liam “made polite conversation” after running into each other at a Berlin hotel. Oasis have a few more shows left in London before continuing the U.K. and Ireland leg of their reunion tour. The run will touch down in North America later next month, with additional shows scheduled in Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and South America through November. From Rolling Stone US. James Cameron Heads to the Volcanic Side of Pandora in New ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Trailer

Entertainment The third film in Cameron’s epic saga will find Jake Sully, Neytiri, and the Metkayina squaring off against a villainous tribe of Na’vi known as the “Ash People” Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri in ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash.’ 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS Jake Sully and Neytiri venture to the volcanic side of Pandora in the new trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is set to arrive Dec. 19. The new clip for the third installment of the hit franchise does not offer much in the way of plot, but it is filled with Cameron’s characteristically resplendent visuals. The film will primarily center around a clash with the “Ash People,” a more villainous Na’vi tribe that Sully, Neytiri, and the Metkayina — the water clan from The Way of Water — must confront amid their larger war over Pandora with the colonizing forces of the Resources Development Administration.  The Fire and Ash trailer offers the first glimpses of Oona Chaplin as Varang, the leader of the Ash People, who menacingly closes the clip by saying, “Your goddess has no dominion here.” Additionally, the clip finds Jake and Neytiri grappling with the fallout from the events in The Way of Water, specifically the death of their oldest son, Neteyam.  “You cannot live like this, baby – in hate,” Sully tells Neytiri. Fire and Ash will find Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprising their roles as Sully and Neytiri, while other returning cast members include Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Jack Champion, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, and Kate Winslet. Along with Chaplin, the film will feature new cast members Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. Cameron filmed Fire and Ash back-to-back with The Way of Water, hence the three-year wait between sequels (the gap between the original Avatar and The Way of Water was 13 years). Two more Avatar films are in the works, with the fourth installment set to arrive in 2029 and the fifth in 2031. Aamir Khan explains why Sitaare Zameen Par can be rented and can’t be bought on YouTube; reveals that his older productions and that of father Tahir Hussain like Caravan, Anamika etc will also be available on his YouTube channel

Entertainment Aamir Khan made a path-breaking announcement today, July 29, at a five-star hotel in Mumbai that he’ll release his recent hit film, Sitaare Zameen Par, on YouTube. The superstar has opted for a pay-per-view model, that is, one can pay Rs. 100 to rent the film. However, one can’t permanently own the film, as explained by Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan explains why Sitaare Zameen Par can be rented and can’t be bought on YouTube; reveals that his older productions and that of father Tahir Hussain like Caravan, Anamika etc will also be available on his YouTube channel Aamir said, “You can rent Sitaare Zameen Par for Rs. 100. Let me explain the technicality. Once you rent, the film, it will stay in your account for 30 days. Once you start viewing the film, you have 48 hours to complete the film.” This writer asked if one can pay more to buy the film, that is, have permanent access to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir Khan explained, “We were wondering whether to do that or not. We realized that it’s better to take one step at a time. This is something new that we are doing. So, right now, we are only keeping the option of rent. As we go along and as we understand this part better, then we can start offering such options.” He also shared his other plans, “Aamir Khan Talkies is the platform where you’ll get to see films of Aamir Khan Productions like Lagaan, Dangal, Peepli [LIVE], Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Taare Zameen Par etc. On August 1, you’ll only get Sitaare Zameen Par. A week later, we’ll add more films. This way, the whole library of Aamir Khan Productions will be available on Aamir Khan Talkies. My father Tahir Hussain made movies like Caravan, Anamika etc. Those films will also be available on our YouTube channel.” He added, “Aamir Khan Talkies will have free content as well as pay-per-view stuff. I’d like to upload episodes of my TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. I’d not like to charge for it; it can be accessed for free.” He further stated, “I also want Aamir Khan Talkies to be a platform for new, emerging talent. A lot of young filmmakers have made great films and at times, no one buys their movies. So, if we like their films and if they contact us, we’d like to upload them on our channel. It’ll help them to showcase their talent. Whatever that film earns, most of the profit will be given to the filmmaker while AKP will keep the minimum amount as a fee.” As for future plans, he revealed, “Going forward, it’ll be my strategy to bring the film to cinemas first. Once its theatrical run is over, I’ll bring the film on pay-per-view on YouTube.” Also Read: Aamir Khan launches Aamir Khan Talkies for Pay-Per-View films on YouTube: “I want to reach every Indian at a reasonable price” More Pages: Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection , Sitaare Zameen Par Movie Review Tags : Aamir Khan, Aamir Khan production, Anamika, Bollywood, Bollywood News, Breaking, Caravan, Dangal, Features, Lagaan, Media, OTT, OTT Platform, Sitaare Zameen Par, Tahir Hussain, Youtube BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama. Aamir Khan’s THOUGHTFUL gesture; APOLOGIZES with FOLDED hands to media for LYING about Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release; DEFENDS bringing the film online in just 6 weeks of theatrical release: “Pay-per-view CANNOT affect theatrical business of m

100 film to rent the film. Discussions about such a mode were going on even before the film was out. Aamir was asked about it, but he denied any such plans to many journalists. To all these reports, Aamir Khan, as a thoughtful gesture, apologized for lying. Aamir Khan’s THOUGHTFUL gesture; APOLOGIZES with FOLDED hands to media for LYING about Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release; DEFENDS bringing the film online in just 6 weeks of theatrical release: “Pay-per-view CANNOT affect theatrical business of my film” Aamir Khan began by saying, “To all those journalists who asked me whether my film was coming on YouTube and I denied the same, I’d like to fold my hands and apologize for lying. Main kuch aur bol nahin paa raha tha. I wanted to protect the theatrical business. Meri shuruaat hui hai cinema se and I am very loyal to theatres. Hence, I’ll make all efforts to protect the theatrical business. Hence, while doing this experiment, we wanted to protect the theatres. As a result, I had to say that I am not bringing my film on YouTube. Woh mujhe kehna pada aur uske liye main maafi chahta hoon. Unfortunately, I had to lie. If I had not lied, mera jo sapna tha, woh wahin khatam ho jaata.” Aamir Khan’s decision to bring Sitaare Zameen Par in just six weeks of theatrical release has also raised eyebrows, especially when he often rejected the idea of a film releasing in 8 weeks on OTT. On this, he replied, “Pay-per-view model and subscription model mein zameen aasmaan ka farak hai. When I release my film after 8 weeks on a subscription model, a person who has bought a subscription to that OTT platform is not buying my film per se. He’s paying to access films available on that platform. After a few months, he’ll learn that my film is also available. He may or may not watch it. As a creative person, I’d like to take a thousand steps towards my audience. But I want my audience to take one step towards me. When we opt for a subscription model, we are, more or less, providing the film for free. Pay-per-view is the same model as the theatre. Theatre experience is different. You watch a film with 300-500 people. You laugh, cry and clap together. The theatre is equipped with Atmos sound. That is an experience and this is a different experience. In cinemas, viewers might feel more amazed. But on YouTube, viewers will have the option of convenience. Hence, it was my plan from the beginning to bring the film on YouTube at the end of its theatrical run.” Another journalist asked on the same lines and Aamir Khan said, “OTT is a totally different model. Let me make it clear that I have no objection to OTT platforms. But I don’t like the arrangement that the film has to release on OTT 8 weeks after release. Hence, I moved away from it. I am not of the belief that the pay-per-view model can affect the theatrical business of my film.” Also Read: Aamir Khan ADMITS that he was offered Rs. 125 cr for Sitaare Zameen Par’s OTT rights: “Mujhe woh badi company ke Rs 125 crore nahin chahiye. Entertainment Aamir Khan invited media for a special announcement on Tuesday, July 29, at a five star hotel in Mumbai. The invite didn’t mention what the announcement would be about and hence, journalists assembled at the venue with lot of curiosity. Aamir came on stage and made the headline worthy announcement – his recent hit film Sitaare Zameen Par will not release on any OTT platform after completing it’s theatrical run. There was a speculation about it for a while but Aamir never confirmed or denied his plans to opt for a YouTube release. But Aamir being a trend se, he chose to make this announcement in style. BREAKING: Aamir Khan ADMITS that he was offered Rs. 125 cr for Sitaare Zameen Par’s OTT rights: “Mujhe woh badi company ke Rs 125 crore nahin chahiye. Mujhe meri audience ka sau rupaye chahiye” Aamir Khan began his speech explaining how YouTube is having the largest penetration when it comes to online video platform in India. He further said that with the rise of UPI, it has become easy for the masses to make electronic payments with ease. Hence, the superstar decided to go the YouTube way. While he was explaining the importance of YouTube and getting his film to the remote corners of the country, the screen behind displayed the poster of Sitaare Zameen Par. Along with the poster, it also mentioned that the sports drama will be out on August 1 on Aamir Khan’s YouTube channel, that is, Aamir Khan Talkies. Aamir has opted for a Pay-Per-View basis, that is, one has to pay a nominal amount to access the film. Aamir has decided on Rs. 100 as the price point of his film. Bollywood Hungama was the first one to write that Aamir Khan was offered Rs. 125 crores by Netflix to skip YouTube release and release his film on their platform. A journalist asked him about it and he said, “I have a lot of confidence in (pay-per-view) model and I’ll tell you why. I don’t want Rs. 125 crore from OTT platforms. I want Rs. 100 from the aam junta of our country. Mujhe woh badi company ke Rs 125 crore nahin chahiye. Mujhe meri audience ka sau rupaye chahiye. I trust my work and I trust my audience. If my work is worth it, the audience will first watch the film in theatre and then watch it on YouTube on pay per view.” Talking more on OTT deals, he explained, “Cinema ko usse nuksaan ho raha hai. Such a deal will benefit only me. I can’t do it. It’ll affect the industry in the long run. Hence, I refused.” Also Read: Aamir Khan recalls mistaken fan crowd for Tiger Shroff; actor responds with humble note More Pages: Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection , Sitaare Zameen Par Movie Review BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama.
