Lisa of Blackpink will make her movie debut in Netflix’s new spin‑off of its hit American action‑thriller Extraction franchise (Extraction, 2020 and Extraction 2, 2023) — a gritty Korean thriller titled Tygo. The streaming service dropped the news earlier this week, confirming that the K-pop superstar and hitmaker will share the screen with Korean action heavyweight Ma Dong-seok, aka Don Lee, and popular Korean actor Lee Jin-wook. Set in the underbelly of South Korea, Tygo follows a mercenary — Ma Dong-seok’s eponymous character— who is thrust into a chaotic and deadly rescue mission after his close friend and teammate Ria (played by Lisa) is kidnapped by Arman Choi’s (played by Lee Jin-wook) ruthless syndicate. The story — based on an original graphic novel, Ciudad, co-created by the Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe) and writer Ande Parks — promises the bone-crushing choreography that director Lee Sang-yong (of The Roundup series) is famous for. Tygo’s production kicked off in late 2025, with AGBO, Big Punch Pictures, and several other partners behind the camera. From left to right: Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee), Lisa and Lee Jin-wook. Photo: Courtesy of Han Cinema. According to Netflix, Lisa said that the role is a lifelong dream come true for her. She told reporters that stepping into an action movie feels incredibly special and that she’s grateful for the chance to work with such talented actors. Ma Dong-seok echoed the sentiment, noting that Tygo injects a fresh Korean identity into the global Extraction universe and that the team can’t wait to unleash its explosive energy on viewers. Lee Jin‑wook added that he’s honored to join a franchise he’s long admired. Producer Angela Russo‑Otstot of AGBO summed up the project as an opportunity to explore the Extraction world through a South Korean lens, highlighting the collaboration with Lee Sang-yong and the cast as a perfect blend of adrenaline, showmanship and creative vision. For Lisa, the move caps off a year that already saw her acting debut in HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3, where she appeared as Thidapon Mook Sornsin, a health and wellness coach. With Tygo, the pop idol will trade mic drops for showdowns when the film lands on Netflix. The film’s release date is still under wraps, but is expected to air in 2026. Read More

‘SNL’: Watch Dijon Perform ‘Higher!,’ ‘Another Baby!’ From Latest Album

Entertainment Singer, songwriter, and producer Dijon debuted on Saturday Night Live with performances of tracks from his latest album, Baby. Dijon opened with “Higher!,” which came out in August to positive reviews. “Throughout the album, fragments of sounds — fiery adlibs, Golden Age hip-hop samples, whizzing, inverted vocal riffs — all jut out like beams of light piercing through the pitch black of night,” Rolling Stone‘s Jeff Ihaza wrote in a review. After his 2021 debut album, Absolutely, Dijon told The FADER that he would “love to engage in the pop world with some of the more messy, far out sonic choices.” He explained: “…[W]hat I’d like to see in five years is hopefully having some sort of ability to at least take a stab at other things that kind of take me out of my comfort zone, but maybe putting a different spin or a fingerprint or pulling out different versions of songwriting for people.” Now 33, Dijon is coming off his work on Justin Bieber‘s Swag and Swag II, which came out a month before and after Baby, respectively. For his contributions to songs like “Daisies” and “Yukon,” he is nominated for Producer of the Year at next February’s Grammys. Later on Saturday, Dijon also performed “Another Baby!” Dijon is wrapping up a string of North American shows next week in Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis. Early next year he’ll be in western Europe. From Rolling Stone US. Read More

Sydney Sweeney Finally Addresses American Eagle Controversy: ‘I’m Against Hate and Divisiveness’

Entertainment “I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign,” actress says. “Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true” Sydney Sweeney. Photo: Aeon/GC Images Sydney Sweeney has finally addressed the denim drama over her controversial American Eagle ad after months of avoiding the subject, saying in a new interview that she’s “against hate and divisiveness.”  This past summer, the actress starred in American Eagle’s “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” campaign. The pairing of Sweeney — who has blonde hair and blue eyes — with the tagline “has great jeans/genes” led some on the left to accuse the campaign of subtly dog-whistling eugenics and white supremacy, while the right — and even President Trump — applauded the ad. “I was honestly surprised by the reaction,” Sweeney told People in a new interview. “I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true.” The ad campaign was widely mocked and scrutinized (by the left) or widely celebrated and defended (by the right), but Sweeney herself sat out much of the controversy, initially refusing to talk about it during press junkets for her movie and sidestepping questions in interviews. “I knew at the end of the day what that ad was for, and it was great jeans, it didn’t affect me one way or the other,” Sweeney told GQ in November. However, speaking to People while promoting new film The Housemaid, Sweeney finally weighed on the controversy, recognizing “recently” that not speaking about the situation only made matters worse. “Anyone who knows me knows that I’m always trying to bring people together. I’m against hate and divisiveness,” Sweeney said. “In the past my stance has been to never respond to negative or positive press but recently I have come to realize that my silence regarding this issue has only widened the divide, not closed it. So I hope this new year brings more focus on what connects us instead of what divides us.” From Rolling Stone US. Read More

Actor abduction and assault case: Questions that linger even after Dileep’s acquittal

Entertainment Actor Dileep, arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of a popular Malayalam actor, being produced in a court in Kochi in 2017 Updated on :  08 Dec 2025, 9:58 am After a long wait, there is finally a verdict in the actor abduction and assault case, with the sessions court in Ernakulam finding the accused from numbers one to six guilty, including Pulsar Suni. At the same time, the court declared Dileep as being not guilty in the case. However, there are still many pressing questions that linger in the collective consciousness of a part of the public in Kerala. It is worth noting that some people in the state continue to favour the actor, but those who do not make the following considerations. If Not Dileep, Who Masterminded the Crime? One of the most difficult cases to prove in criminal law is the element of conspiracy behind a crime. In the case of the actor abduction and assault case, the narrative until now was that the first six accused committed the crime allegedly at the behest of Dileep and as per a contract between them. The verdict shows that they did commit the crime. This begs the question: Who played the mastermind, and why did they do so? Was there no mastermind at all? Was it the doing of Suni and his minions all along? This brings us to question number two: What was Pulsar Suni’s Endgame? One of the prosecution’s biggest tools against Dileep was the alleged letter that Suni sent from jail to the actor, seeking the amount the latter owed to him for the contract. According to the chargesheet, he received a 1.5 crore offer for the ‘job’ from Dileep, and the two conspired on multiple occasions to commit the crime. At the start of the case, the actor said that he did not know Suni, but the letter and the pictures featuring the two suggested otherwise. The police eventually used the letter to link Dileep with Suni. Until the incident from that night, Suni was not a known criminal in Kerala, although he had a prior criminal record and was considered a small-time criminal. Now, why would such a person commit a crime of such magnitude? And why did he make the claim against Dileep at the onset? What About Director Balachandrakumar’s Revelations? Remember the time when the late Balachandrakumar made some sensational revelations against Dileep in the actor abduction and assault case? The filmmaker alleged that the actor possessed the footage of the assault and asked him to come to his residence to view it. According to Balachandrakumar, Dileep was unhappy with the survivor’s alleged role in creating friction with his marriage with Manju Warrier and hence formed a vendetta against the survivor and planned the assault. Subsequently, the filmmaker also claimed that Dileep and five others discussed putting DYSP Baiju Paulose’s life in danger. A recording of the alleged conversation even leaked to the media. Does the Police Have a Role in It? After his acquittal, Dileep alleged that “a high-ranking female officer” and her subordinates, with a “criminal” mind, intentionally targeted him in the case following his former wife Manju Warrier’s claim about a criminal conspiracy in the incident and her call for an investigation into it. “This police team fabricated a false narrative along with those accused,” the actor said to the media following the verdict before claiming that a section of the media assisted them in building the narrative against him. Now, is there any truth to this? What Happens to the Actor Abduction and Assault Case Now? Does the verdict mean the end of the case once and for all? Likely not, with the Government of Kerala announcing its decision to appeal the verdict acquitting actor Dileep in the case soon after the verdict. This only adds further intrigue to a case that has long been a part of public debate in the state. Read More

Helen Mirren says she hopes to be remembered for something more meaningful than ‘beauty’

Entertainment Previously at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year, the actor shared her two cents on how to carry oneself on the red carpet, letting out that the hack is to focus on the footwear. She said, “I’ve learnt over the years, your shoes have to be bearable. They don’t necessarily have to be comfortable. And in fact, comfortable sometimes is a bit boring, and you want cool shoes. But they have to be bearable because if you’re in unbearable pain, that is going to reflect on your face and your posture and everything. So you start with the shoes and just make sure that you’re secure in them and they’re bearable.” Mirren admitted that while she wasn’t always prioritising comfort in fashion, she has now reached a stage in her career where she has started valuing it. “I’ve come to a point where I just want (my red carpet outfit) to be comfortable as well. Beauty knows no pain. I have been there more than once, you know, sucking up the pain for my vanity. But again, it reflects on your face if you’re comfortable,” she explained. This year alone, Mirren had two series premieres, including Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel, 1923, and MobLand, which had Guy Ritchie as one of the directors. On the film front, she was last seen in The Thursday Murder Club alongside Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley. In the pipeline, she has Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, which is a Christmas family drama. She also has Anton Corbijn’s Switzerland in which she will play author Patricia Highsmith. Entertainment Updated on :  08 Dec 2025, 9:08 am The postpone of Akhanda 2 has caused ripples in the film industry, causing many filmmakers to rethink their release plans. While Akhanda 2 makers are yet to set a release date, the Gurram Paapi Reddy has now established its hold on December 19, setting the same as their release date.
