Starting out as a tourism experiment in 2016, it has today evolved into a defining cultural moment for the region, a wager that Meghalaya Tourism is making to transform “India’s Rock Capital” into a broader, more culturally diverse creative hub.  While previous editions have hosted artists like Jonas Blue, Boney M’s Maizie Williams, Magic!, and Akon, this year’s lineup, too, is stacked with international heavyweights, including Jason Derulo, The Script, Diplo, Tyga, and Aqua, alongside crowd-pullers such as Nora Fatehi, Zephyrtone, Girish and the Chronicles, and more. Yet even as it brings in nostalgia icons and chart-topping names, the Cherry Blossom Festival continues to build on the foundation it started with: to amplify the region’s own voices and strengthen the ecosystem for homegrown talent through initiatives like the Meghalaya Grassroots Movement Project, a state-backed program supporting emerging artists. Entertainment Khasi Bloodz One of the most definitive names on both the Northeast hip-hop circuit and the national radar, the Shillong-based crew has been pushing culture since 2009. Fusing their local Khasi tongue with English, Khasi Bloodz is known for searing verses that layer themes of identity, politics, and pride over everything from old-school hip-hop to soul and R&B. Their recent trilogy, Blood, Sweat & Tears, marks both a comeback and a creative leap, reaffirming why they’re often seen as cultural flagbearers for the region. Having opened for acts like Dino James and Shah Rule, Walter channels the pulse of Shillong’s streets into an urgent, unfiltered energy that feels built for bigger stages. Entertainment Meba Ofilia One of Shillong’s brightest exports, Meba Ofilia has grabbed her spot in India’s R&B and hip-hop landscape with silky vocal textures and self-assured bars. She first pulled global attention with her single “Done Talking” with Khasi Bloodz, which won Best Indian Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards. Her debut project, untitled.shg, which released in 2022, saw her digging into themes of identity, resilience, and artistic evolution, mixing gospel‑inspired tones with R&B grooves, jazz influences, and rich storytelling. Singles like “Poppin’ & Shoppin’” highlight their precision and creative flair, while their live sets are slowly building a reputation for their energy and crowd-ready charisma, making them a next-generation force to watch out for in the region’s rap scene. Entertainment Dappest & adL Shillong’s Dappest & adL are a duo defined by the interplay of their individual strengths: Adiel Massar (adL), the producer, draws on R&B, neo-soul, Afro‑rhythms, and experimental electronic textures, while Dappest, a vocalist and lyricist, brings falsetto hooks, melodic versatility, and hard-hitting lines. Their 2022 full-length debut, At Your Service, captured this chemistry, featuring genre-fluid arrangements with compelling songwriting that earned them the top spot at Meghalaya’s government-backed Mega Music Contest. On stage, the dynamic is clear from the get-go: adL anchors the sound in textured drops and subtle production flourishes, while Dappest commands the mic with precision. On stage, they are a force of catharsis and release, representing the enduring spirit of Shillong’s rock legacy. Entertainment DaLa‑Riti One of Shillong’s most distinctive voices, folk fusion band DaLa‑Riti, led by singer‑songwriter Dalariti Gratel Kharnaior, was formed in 2018 to mix Khasi folk traditions with Western influences. Their repertoire spans original folk-fusion songs and reworked classics like “Shad Pynnang” and “Sier Lapalang,” preserving cultural heritage through a contemporary lens shaped by modern instrumentation and songwriting. Having collaborated with artists like Vasu Dixit on The  Pada Project in 2022 and performed at festivals such as WAVES 2025 in Mumbai and the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, DaLa‑Riti will bring their lively, folk-driven sound to the Cherry Blossom Festival stage. Entertainment Live Nation’s ‘Living for Live’ global survey, spanning 15 countries and 40,000 participants, sheds light on the booming cultural shift toward live music Photo for representative purposes only Live music is officially the world’s favorite high. According to Living for Live, a new global report by entertainment powerhouse Live Nation, over 70 per cent of people would rather watch their favorite artist perform live than have sex. The survey, conducted across 15 countries with over 40,000 participants aged 18 to 54, explores the concert economy, fandom culture, and the growing desire for real-world experiences in a hyper-digital era and live music is clearly a crowd favorite, with 39 per cent of participants surveyed naming it their top form of entertainment over sports and films, while 70 per cent even chose watching their favorite musician perform live over having sex. Eighty per cent also claimed they spend more on live music experiences than on materialistic objects.  In 2024 itself, fans willingly traveled more than 40 billion miles (equivalent to making 83,000 trips to the moon) to watch their favorite artists live. Likewise, 6 out of 10 fans also went on yearly sojourns for shows, indicating the rising trend of concerts as catalysts for growth for industries like hospitality, tourism, and more.  More than just momentary spends, concerts have now evolved into chrononormative pit stops for their fans. 75 per cent of respondents said that they planned their lives around gig calenders. From scheduling their travel getaways or “gigcations” (concert-led microholidays), saving up for birthdays, and even getting tattoos to commemorate their concert memories, it has become increasingly clear that live music holds deep meaning for many of its consumers. 84 per cent even reported how concerts have gotten their families closer.  Beyond languages, cultures, and borders, live music has reportedly become a driving force for diversity and representation. 71 per cent of the global sample said they listened to artists outside of their native tongues, while audiences from Europe, Latin America, Europe, and Asia piqued by 30 per cent.  In equal measure, fandom sentiment reigned supreme. 85 per cent of the audience reported how music is emblematic of their identity, while 84 per cent agreed on the euphoria-inducing qualities of concerts. 76 per cent of the participants also showcased interest in events/festivals with female headliners. From meeting fellow fans to deciding festival outfits in advance, concerts have become a shared, collective experience, one that allows for self-expression and connection. Concurrently, 93 per cent craved offline, real experiences over digital ones, making live concerts an antidote to the post-modern digital age. However, in the age of dopamine doomscrolling, the survey also highlighted how posting and streaming concert clips on social media channels is a motivating factor for attending them. 94 per cent of fans broadcast their captures online, while 68 per cent streamed clips when they cannot attend in person, becoming a cog in the burgeoning attention economy.  From trend shifts to economic pulse points, LiveNation’s survey traced the global magnitude of live music and concerts, and its potential as a universal way to propel the entertainment industry forward. Taking place from Nov. 14 to Nov. 16, 2025 at Bandra Fort—another longstanding space with cultural and historical significance that dates back to the 17th Century—Olly Fest’s music takes place at the amphitheater, featuring tributes by Indian rock veterans as well as jazz-fusion, specially-curated performances and more. Here are our picks of artists to watch at the three-day festival. Isheeta Chakrvarty Collective Performing on day one, Nov. 14, 2025, at Olly Fest 2025, Mumbai-based fusion artist Isheeta Chakrvarty and her collective have been a diverse force, bringing together jazz, traditional Indian music as well as influences from African music for their sets. While studio collaborations have ranged from percussionist Viveick Rajagopalan to producer duo Anhad + Tanner and Anyasa, Chakrvarty’s on-stage collaborators include sarod artist Pratik Shrivastava, keyboardist Niranjan Joshi, drummer Ishan Jadwani, bassist Sayar Mitra and vocalists Meher Taneja and Anagha Karvir. Joe Alvares & The Indian All Stars Lighting up day two of Olly Fest on Nov. 15, 2025, veteran artist Joe Alvares is mounting one of the biggest lineups with an eight-member band called The Indian All Stars. That includes the likes of singer Shefali Alvares, bassist Sheldon D’Silva, drummer Gino Banks, pianist Arka Chakraborty and more. The repertoire includes Alvares’ rock, blues, jazz and pop original material that has previously been performed in countries like Mexico. Gary Lawyer The final day of Olly Fest features the living legend of Indian rock, Gary Lawyer, belting out a tribute to the Doors for fans of the classic Sixties and Seventies bluesy, psychedelic sound. While Lawyer recently re-released his 1992 album of originals called The Other Side Of Dawn on LP via Kolkata’s Free School Street Records, his big draw remains tribute shows such as the Doors. As part of his set, expect everything from “L.A. Woman,” “Light My Fire,” “Back Door Man” and “Hello, I Love You.” Merkaba Described as a contemporary music project, Mumbai act Merkaba take the stage at Olly Fest on Nov. 16, 2025, with guitarist Sanjay Divecha, vocalist Vasundhara Vee, drummer Gino Banks, bassist Sheldon D’Silva, pianist Arka Chakraborty (all carried over from performing with Joe Alvares as well), plus singer-songwriters Pratika Gopinath and Meera Desai. Entertainment Next spring will see the arrival of the first BTS studio album since 2020, when they released Be, as well as the follow-up to their Permission to Dance On Stage Tour BTS perform during the GRAMMY Awards on April 3, 2022. Earlier this year, the band announced that their official comeback would launch in the spring of 2026 with a new album and tour. RM took to social media to share a progress update for ARMY about how the process has been going behind the scenes. “Above all, the music is really coming out great,” RM shared on X. “Everyone is working hard. Look forward to it. 2026 Bulletproof Army Fighting.” The musician shared the caption alongside four photos to provide fans with a proper check-in. BTS have been working on their forthcoming record since July. The album will mark their first since 2020, when they released Be. “Since it will be a group album, it will reflect each member’s thoughts and ideas. We’re approaching the album with the same mindset we had when we first started,” BTS shared earlier this year. “We’re also planning a world tour alongside the new album. We’ll be visiting fans all around the world, so we hope you’re as excited as we are.” After the band’s hiatus was announced in March 2022, V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope used that time to complete their mandatory military service in South Korea and pursue solo endeavors as musicians.
