Ram Madhvani, Mahaveer Jain on storytelling, nation building at IFFI: “Guide was one of the greatest spiritual films made in India. I aspire to make another one…tragic artists like Meena Kumari, Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan actually affected us”

Entertainment National Award-winning filmmaker and Emmy-nominated director Ram Madhvani, and acclaimed Indian film producer Mahaveer Jain came together at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa for an engaging conversation on “The Power and Impact of Our Stories on Nation Building”. The engaging session was moderated by Divyansh Jain, the youngest producer and director of the film industry at present. Ram Madhvani, Mahaveer Jain on storytelling, nation building at IFFI: “Guide was one of the greatest spiritual films made in India. I aspire to make another one…tragic artists like Meena Kumari, Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan actually affected us” Founded in 1952, IFFI remains the only South Asian film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations (FIAPF) in the Competitive Feature Films category. Each year, it continues to curate and celebrate landmark cinema from across the globe. The insightful session featuring Mahaveer Jain and Ram Madhvani explored storytelling, the values that guide creators, and the cultural influences shaping their work, while also highlighting filmmakers’ responsibility and cinema’s emotional impact. Talking about the cultural values that India holds, cinematic philosopher Ram Madhvani shared, “India has always been a civilisation shaped by stories. Whether it is the Ramayana or the Mahabharata, these epics were more than tales; they were moral compasses, emotional guides, and reflections of who we are. As creators today, we inherit that legacy. Our responsibility is to craft stories that not only entertain but also carry forward the values, questions, and memories that define us. I believe storytelling is a sacred act, one that allows us to understand ourselves better and to show the world who India truly is.’’ Further speaking about India’s cultural and spiritual legacy, renowned producer Mahaveer Jain emphasized the importance of sharing the country’s ancient wisdom with global audiences through cinema and entertainment. He noted “We have solutions for everything in the ancient wisdom that our own sages have given us,” noted Mahaveer Jain. “If India can gift something to the entire world, it is this – our ancient wisdom. This wisdom is what we should be propagating through the entertainment medium, which is also what I request you all to do,” he observed. Speaking about his filmmaking approach and the emotion he strives to evoke in audiences, visionary director Ram Madhvani shared, “I am interested in tragedy. We have forgotten the tragic hero. We have the romantic, action and comedy heroes, but the tragic hero or heroine – Meena Kumari, Dilip Kumar, even Shah Rukh Khan – are people who actually affected us. Tragedy is a thing I feel that we are missing. In everything that I do, the one nerve that I want to press, to cleanse you is to make you cry. With everything that you are going through in your life – if I can use the work that I am putting out there to try and see how you can achieve catharsis, that is what I would like to do.” He also added, “Guide was one of the greatest spiritual films made in India. I aspire to make another one!” The International Film Festival of India continues to serve as a vital platform where filmmakers, producers, and storytellers come together to explore cinema’s role in shaping culture, identity, and national narrative. Ranveer Singh’s performance backfires: Kantara Scene Imitation fuels major controversy as HJS demands action

Entertainment Ranveer Singh receives criticism for depicting Kantara’s Chamundi Daiva during IFFI’s closing event in the presence of Rishab Shetty. His analogy of the holy figure as a “female ghost” has caused anger, resulting in official complaints and calls for a public apology. Bollywood sensation Ranveer Singh is only days away from the launch of his highly awaited film Dhurandhar, set to hit cinemas on December 5.However, the enthusiasm around the project has recently been overshadowed by a controversy that unfolded following the actor’s presence at the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. What was meant to be a light-hearted moment on stage has now triggered public backlash, formal complaints and demands for an apology. Entertainment Ranveer Singh’s Kantara controversy explained The event took place when Ranveer performed the climax scene from Kantara – Chapter 1 in front of the crowd, which included director-actor Rishab Shetty. While performing the imitation, he referenced the sacred Chamundi Daiva, a spiritual entity depicted in the film and revered in coastal Karnataka, and compared it to a female ghost. The remark was met with laughter from some people present at the ceremony, but it soon became a point of outrage once a clip of the act surfaced online. The viral clip rapidly circulated on social media, as numerous users condemned Ranveer’s performance as insensitive and tone-deaf. Several viewers argued that what looked like harmless humour to the actor came across as deeply disrespectful to those who follow the Daiva tradition. Ranveer Singh literally mocking Daiva Chavundi possession in Kantara. How low these movie stars can go for fame, money with zero respect for sacred Tulunad Daivaradhane beliefs?Shame. Rishabh is enjoying that mimic?@RanveerOfficial @shetty_rishab pic.twitter.com/F4x0X2rVmA — Vije (@vijeshetty) November 29, 2025 Entertainment Complaint filed against Ranveer Singh The situation intensified when the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted a formal complaint against the actor. The PTI report stated that the organization claimed Ranveer had “offended Goddess Chamundadevi by portraying the deity in a disrespectful way.” In the complaint filed by HJS members Pramod Tuyekar and Dilip Shetye to the Panaji police, the group called on the authorities to act under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The memorandum indicated that Chamundi Daiva is regarded as a revered family god of the Kotitulu/Tulu community, and portraying the deity in an undignified manner may incite discord and offend religious feelings. Along with legal action, HJS has also demanded that Ranveer issue a public apology. They said the actor should promise not to engage in similar remarks or performances in the future. It also appealed to IFFI organisers to frame a code of conduct to ensure no deity or spiritual tradition is mocked during award ceremonies or public events. While urging supporters to voice their concerns, HJS clarified that protests must remain peaceful and within legal boundaries. Entertainment Ranveer Singh’s apology This morning, after being brutally trolled, Ranveer Singh took to his Instagram story to share an official apology for mimicking the sacred Daiva scene from Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1. His post read: “My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.” Don’t Miss Out on the Latest Updates. Naga Vamsi: We are living in a society where people made iBomma Ravi into Robin Hood

Entertainment Updated on :  01 Dec 2025, 6:18 pm Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya are teaming up once again as the lead pair for their new film Epic. Produced by Naga Vamsi, the makers unveiled the title along with a short glimpse from the film. Aditya Haasan, known for the popular web series 90s – A Middle Class Biopic, is directing the project. During the event, the team addressed several questions, including one about the magical charm of the 90s and what is missing in today’s era. Responding to that, producer Naga Vamsi said, “It’s social media. We are living in a society where people have made iBomma Ravi into a Robin Hood. So, there is no comparison between the 90s and the present. If we increase the ticket price by just ₹50, we become villains, and iBomma Ravi becomes Robin Hood. You can imagine what kind of society we are in now.” Director Aditya Haasan said he needed a Telugu-speaking girl for the film and felt Vaishnavi Chaitanya was the best choice. Naga Vamsi added that the film would not move forward without her. “I told Aditya that if Vaishnavi doesn’t do the film, I won’t make it. So I insisted he bring her on board. Even though they are doing Baby 2, I still wanted her in my project opposite Anand Deverakonda,” said Naga Vamsi. Speaking about the release, he said that the date will be announced in a week. “I want to plan the release carefully. I am not in a hurry. Before finalising the date, I want to ensure everything about the film is perfect,” said Naga Vamsi. Read More

Bhagyashri Borse reveals Kaantha was supposed to be her debut

Entertainment Updated on :  01 Dec 2025, 6:11 pm Bhagyashri Borse’s maiden Telugu performance in Mr Bachchan, was widely received. The Ravi Teja-starrer, which was released in August last year, directed by Harish Shankar and a remake of the Hindi film Raid, performed underwhelmingly at the box office. Even the producer, TG Vishwa Prasad, later described the film as a ‘mistake.’ Despite the film’s performance, Bhagyashri did not lose hope. She next starred opposite Vijay Deverakonda in Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Despite the high expectations pre-release, the film ended up receiving an average response. Speaking about her recent release, Kaantha, the actor reveals that it was the first South Indian film she auditioned for. The release, however, was delayed for several reasons, and the film finally hit theatres on November 14. Released as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu, the film featured Bhagyashri in a pivotal role. Although she earned good appreciation for her performance, the film received mixed reviews. Her latest release, Andhra King Taluka, in which she starred opposite Ram Pothineni, also struggled at the box office. The film opened last Thursday, but the numbers have been very low, and it is heading towards a flop. Even though Ram reportedly did not take any remuneration and instead took the Nizam and Guntur rights, the overall budget remained high. Despite these efforts, the film performed below expectations. Both Ram Pothineni and Bhagyashri travelled to the USA to promote the film there. Their absence in India immediately after the release meant that the team could not carry out essential local promotions. Directed by Mahesh Babu P, the film also featured Kannada star Upendra in an important role as Surya, the Superstar. Despite these setbacks, Bhagyashri Borse continues to be in demand in Tollywood. She is currently working on Lenin opposite Akhil and has a few more projects lined up. She is still waiting for that one film that will give her the big break she deserves in Tollywood. Read More
