Jacob Collier on Bringing His Spontaneous Energy and The Full Band to India

Entertainment The multi-Grammy winner performs in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi NCR, two years after he last visited India In November 2023, Jacob Collier stood on stage in Bengaluru as rain poured down and a storm wreaked havoc on what was supposed to be a seated concert. The British multi-instrumentalist had arrived in India for a solo piano tour, armed with just his harmonizer keyboard and five-string guitar. But what was meant to be an intimate, controlled environment quickly transformed into something else entirely: a standing show, drenched in rain and spontaneous energy. “Each one of those shows was so rich and so vivid,” Collier recalls from his London studio, the same room where he creates most of his music. “The Bangalore show was crazy because we had the massive storm in the afternoon, and so it became a standing show. The energy was just crazy, you know. It completely destroyed all the expectations I had.” For an artist who has built his reputation on meticulous arrangements, complex harmonies, and a seemingly superhuman ability to play virtually any instrument, Collier’s willingness to embrace chaos might seem paradoxical. But it’s precisely this tension between control and spontaneity that has defined his recent touring approach — and it’s what has him returning to India this week with his full band in tow. The tour kicked off in Bengaluru before moving to Mumbai’s Nesco Center on November 30 and wrapping up in Delhi NCR on December 2. Unlike his previous visit, this time Collier is bringing what he calls “the big show” — his complete ensemble, ready to deliver the full-scale production that his recorded work has hinted at for years. “My absolute dream is to bring the big show to India, where the biggest amount of love and energy and enthusiasm is,” he says. “I’m so excited, really.” Collier has always been known to adapt, whether on stage or through his sonic chameleonic ways in studio releases, the most recent being his five-string guitar folk-driven album, The Light For Days. “I think I’m the kind of artist who really enjoys plans changing and also enjoys an amount of spontaneity,” he explains. “There’s something amazing about live music, and it’s that you can’t get that experience anywhere else. My job as the kind of curator and the person on stage is to roll with the punches and to try and incorporate as much of that spontaneity as I can.” On stage, the storm that hit his Bengaluru show in 2023 could have derailed the entire evening. Instead, he leaned into it, opening with “Singing in the Rain,” a song he’d never planned to perform that night. He points out that it also helps that “the audiences in India really meet me there” when it comes to the energy. “There are some audiences who would rather stay away from some of those more spontaneous ideas or interactions,” he adds. “But the amount of energy was so inspiring to me, and I still remember it now, very vividly.” After the Bengaluru show, Collier stayed back and spent an hour outside the venue talking to fans about the shared experience of the rain and storm. “Those are some of the moments I treasure most, actually, from the whole trip,” he reflects. “Just meeting people in the street and hearing stories and learning from them about what life is like in India, and what life is like for musicians in India.” Collier’s relationship with India — where he first performed in 2019 — has naturally extended beyond the audience to musicians. Djesse Vol. 4, released early in 2024, featured collaborations with Indian artists Anoushka Shankar and Varijashree Venugopal. The latter also just joined him on stage at the Bengaluru stop of his tour. “There are so many musicians in India that inspire me and have inspired me over the years,” he says. “Anushka is a dear friend of mine, and Varijashree as well — two incredible musicians, world-class musicians. But to me, I think of it as the very beginning of, hopefully, a lifelong relationship with that whole musical frontier.” For Collier, India represents a fundamental part of his musical worldview. “When I think about the world’s deepest musicians and some of the sources of some of the things I care most about in music, whether it’s time and rhythm, or whether it’s microtonal tunings or whatever happens to be, it’s like I look to India,” he explains. “So I’m excited to see what the future might hold with that too.” The Light For Days, released this year, came together in just four days before Collier departed for his Asia tour earlier this year. He pans the camera to show him sitting in his studio with his R88 ribbon microphone and five-string guitar and explains how he found himself drawn to creating something different from the maximalist approach of the Djesse series. Jacob Collier in a promo photo for his 2025 album ‘The Light For Days.’ Photo: Shervin Lainez He says, “It becomes a bit of an homage to the guitar, but also to gentleness. I’ve really kind of realized this year just how important gentleness is for me as a musician, as a lover of sound, but also as a communicator and as a performer, as a citizen of the world.” It wasn’t a “high-pressure situation” to make or release the album, but he says it felt “right” to put the songs out in the world. Collier adds, “After the Djesse adventure, I didn’t quite know what the next big thing is. I still don’t know what the next big thing is, but it just feels so good to make music and share it.” Collier remains conscious of the boxes people try to place him in. When asked about this by fellow artist Aditi Ramesh — who opened for him in Bengaluru in 2023 — he acknowledged the constant evolution required to stay true to himself. “I think it’s a natural feeling to have, if you’re

Shweta Tripathi to produce her first horror film Nava under Bandarful Films in association with Kowatanda Films India

Entertainment Actor-producer Shweta Tripathi is expanding her storytelling universe with Nava, her first-ever horror project under her banner Bandarful Films, created in association with Kowatanda Films India. This marks her second production venture after the queer drama Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, starring Tilottama Shome, reaffirming her commitment to backing bold, original and culturally rooted narratives. Shweta Tripathi to produce her first horror film Nava under Bandarful Films in association with Kowatanda Films India Set against the hauntingly beautiful yet formidable wetlands of the Sundarbans, Nava follows the story of Tara, who returns to her ancestral home only to find herself pulled into a chilling, generation-old mystery involving river gods, buried family secrets and the uneasy coexistence of myth and memory. Written by Akash Mohimen, the film is positioned as an evocative blend of folklore, fear and emotional depth. Speaking about producing her first horror film and continuing to diversify the stories she wants to champion, Shweta Tripathi shared, “Nava is a very special step for me as a producer. After Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which was rooted in love and identity, I felt an instinctive pull to explore a completely different emotional world. Horror, especially when woven with culture and folklore, has the power to move people in unexpected ways. The Sundarbans is not just a backdrop in this story, it’s alive, it breathes, it protects and it threatens. When Akash narrated the script, I was taken in by its beauty, its fear, and its soul. As a producer, I want to support stories that take creative risks, that are layered, and that stay with the audience long after the film ends. Partnering with Kowatanda Films India on Nava feels like the perfect collaboration because we share the same passion for storytelling that is both meaningful and cinematic.” With Nava, Shweta steps deeper into the world of production, continuing her mission to nurture genre-driven, character-led Indian stories that challenge the conventional and celebrate authenticity. Aamir Khan drops major career update at IFFI 2025: Superstar confirms full-time return to acting after wrapping current films

Entertainment Aamir Khan brought the final Fireside Chat of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to a roaring conclusion, turning the packed Kala Academy into what felt like an immersive masterclass in cinema. The session, moderated by acclaimed film critic Baradwaj Rangan, was titled ‘The Narrative Architect of Social Transformation and Inclusivity’ and soon turned into a candid, insightful and deeply personal conversation with the superstar. Aamir Khan drops major career update at IFFI 2025: Superstar confirms full-time return to acting after wrapping current films Aamir began by revisiting the origins of his love for stories, recalling memories of his grandmother’s tales and the magic of Hawa Mahal on the radio—moments he credits for shaping his creative instincts. “I’ve always been drawn to stories. They were a big part of my childhood, and that fascination has guided every choice I’ve made as an actor,” he said. What emerged through the session was Aamir’s belief in instinct over calculation. “I can’t repeat myself. Once I’ve done a certain kind of film, I want to move on. I look for stories that feel fresh, unique, and creatively exciting,” he explained. Rejecting the idea of trend-driven filmmaking, he added, “I choose films purely based on my emotional excitement for the story, even if it goes completely against the norm.” He reflected on how some of his biggest hits were once considered risky. “Most of my decisions have been impractical by industry standards. When we made Lagaan, even Javed Saab advised us not to. By all logic, I shouldn’t have become a star—I broke every rule. But somehow, those unconventional choices connected with people and I’m deeply grateful,” he said. Aamir clarified that his films with social themes happened organically. “I never select a film thinking about which social topic to address next. I only look for scripts that excite me. If a great script carries a social message, that’s a bonus—not the starting point,” he noted, while crediting writers for shaping the worlds of Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, Dangal and Laapataa Ladies. In one of the evening’s biggest revelations, Aamir confirmed a major professional shift. “Once I complete the current slate of projects I’ve produced—Lahore 1947, Happy Patel, and a few others—the work on all of them will wrap in the next few months. After that, I’m shifting my focus entirely back to acting from production.” He continued, “From here on, any script I hear will be only for me as an actor. It’s a significant shift, but the right time to dedicate myself fully to acting again.” He also shared that he is currently hearing new scripts. “Several have excited me—two or three in particular—but I’m still in the process of choosing,” he said. Aamir touched upon his long-standing desire to direct, adding, “Direction is actually my big love. Filmmaking is what I enjoy the most… But the day I consciously decide to take up direction, I’ll probably stop acting, because it will consume me completely. That’s why I’m delaying that decision for now.” The session closed with Aamir being felicitated by Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Sanjay Jaju, marking a memorable end to IFFI 2025’s final Fireside Chat. Apne producer Deepak Mukut miffed with Anil Sharma for calling off Apne 2: “He is not authorized to make such a rash statement”

Entertainment Producer Deepak Mukut is extremely miffed with director Anil Sharma for saying that the sequel to the Deols’ family film Apne cannot be made without the patriarch of the family. Apne producer Deepak Mukut miffed with Anil Sharma for calling off Apne 2: “He is not authorized to make such a rash statement” Affirmed Deepak Mukut, “On the contrary, Apne must be made now, more than ever before. We were working on the project with Dharam ji. Now Sunny (Deol) and I are going to work on Apne as a homage to Dharam ji. He will be there in the project in spirit. Apne featured Dharam ji with Sunny and Bobby. Apne 2 will also have Sunny’s son Karan in stellar role. I will be sitting down with Sunny over this as soon as the mourning period finishes.” Mukut is surprised and annoyed at Anil Sharma’s announcement on Apne 2 being called off after Dharam ji’s death. “He is not authorized to make such a rash statement. I wonder why he said this. He denies having made such a statement. But how can he be quoted on something so sensitive if he didn’t say it? It is not Anil Sharma’s call to go ahead with the project or not. It is up to Sunny and I to take the project ahead and we are going ahead full throttle. We owe it to Dharam ji and his fans all over the world.” Since Anil Sharma feels the project cannot move ahead without Dharmaji, would Deepak Mukut consider replacing the director in Apne 2? “It is a possibility. I am not ruling it out. We may have a new director. That is not important. The important thing is, we are going ahead with Apne 2 as a homage to Dharamji with Sunny, Bobby and Karan Deol.” Also Read: Deepak Mukut sets the record straight, reveals Apne 2 will celebrate Dharmendra’s spirit and the Deol family legacy More Pages: Apne 2 Box Office Collection , Apne 2 Movie Review Tags : Anil Sharma, Apne, Apne 2, Bobby Deol, Bollywood News, Deepak Mukut, Dharmendra, Down The Memory Lane, Flashback, Karan Deol, News, Sunny Deol, Throwback BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama.
