Fugees’ Pras Michel Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison

Entertainment The rapper is expected to surrender himself to authorities in January after a money laundering and conspiracy conviction Pras Michel Griffin Lotz for Rolling Stone A federal judge sentenced Pras Michel, the Fugees rapper who was convicted of conspiracy, money laundering, and illegal lobbying, in April 2023, to 14 years in prison on Thursday. A rep for the musician confirmed the news to Rolling Stone. Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sentenced the artist, whose real name is Prakazrel Michel, in a D.C. federal court, according to Billboard. After serving the sentence, Michel will serve three years’ probation. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of multiple decades, while his lawyers asked the judge for only three years. Michel’s lawyers will next appeal both his conviction and sentence. In the meantime, he’s expected to surrender on Jan. 27. “Throughout his career Pras has broken barriers,” his spokesperson, Erica Dumas, tells Rolling Stone. “This is not the end of his story. He appreciates the outpouring of support as he approaches the next chapter.” In 2019, the federal government indicted Michel on four criminal counts of making illegal contributions to Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. Two years later, the government added charges to the indictment, as outlined in a Rolling Stone feature, including bank fraud, concealment of material facts, witness tampering, violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), and working as an unregistered agent of the People’s Republic of China. All of the charges relate to Michel’s relationship with a Malaysian, Low Taek Jho, who had stolen $4.5 billion from 1 Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB). The government claimed Michel helped move money from 1MDB to a campaign lobbying Donald Trump to drop an investigation into Low and a Chinese dissident. “What benefit would I get trying to break laws?” he told Rolling Stone. “It’s not worth it to me. I’m like a pariah now. I’ve got friends who won’t talk to me because they think there’s a satellite in orbit listening to them.” After the conviction, the rapper asked for a retrial, alleging that his lawyer, David Kenner, fumbled his case by using A.I. to write closing arguments. A judge denied the request. In the midst of it all, Pras briefly reunited with the Fugees for a few months in 2023. He distanced himself from reunions with Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean the following year. From Rolling Stone US. Read More

BTS’s Jungkook’s airport pics SPARKS major speculation about…, fans react…

Entertainment Jungkook’s latest airport appearance sparked renewed speculation about his relationship with HYBE after a viral video questioned the car that picked him up. BTS’ Jungkook once again became the centre of online discussion after his recent airport appearance stirred new questions about his relationship with HYBE. The singer had quietly travelled overseas for a private schedule, but when he returned to Korea, photos and videos from the airport set off intense speculation. While BTS airport sightings are nothing new, this one stood out because of a viral video that focused not on Jungkook, but on the car that picked him up. Debate Over The Pickup Car A user on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out that the vehicle did not look like the usual HYBE car assigned to BTS members. This observation quickly led to crazy fan theories that Jungkook might be using a luxury vehicle independently, possibly shitning towards a shift in his ties with the company. But ARMYs responded quickly, analysing any and every details such as the license plate and branding. Many fans highlighted that the plate is commonly associated with corporate fleets, suggesting that HYBE may have updated its transportation services or partnered with a new provider. Their analysis helped calm the rumours, shifting the narrative back toward logical explanations. Rising Tension In HYBE–BTS Discussions This incident comes at a time when discussions surrounding BTS and HYBE are particularly sensitive. For years, certain fan groups have argued that BTS should eventually part ways with the label due to concerns over overwork, privacy, and creative control. Although none of the members have publicly expressed intentions to leave, online debates continue to intensify. Privacy Concerns Amid Trespassing Case Jungkook’s return also trended earlier this week when a Dispatch reporter approached him at the airport, prompting him to ask, “How did you know and come here?” Fans applauded him for calling out the invasion of privacy. More worryingly, Yongsan Police reported a third trespassing attempt at Jungkook’s home, involving a Japanese woman who allegedly tried to enter his residence. She is now under investigation for attempted trespassing. Don’t Miss Out on the Latest Updates. Subscribe to Our Newsletter Today! Read More

Cha Eun-woo Trades Slow Jams for Disco in ‘Saturday Preacher’

Entertainment ‘Saturday Preacher’ is a vibrant disco sound, blending retro vibes with raw emotion and showcasing a more versatile side of the K-pop idol and actor Cha Eun-woo for the concept photo of “Saturday Preacher.” Photo: courtesy of Fantagio. Although serving his mandatory military service at the time of writing, Cha Eun-woo, the Astro member, solo artist, and popular Korean actor, continues to make appearances, staying connected with his fans. Added to his recently released film, First Ride (Oct 29, 2025), co-starring Kang Ha-neul, Kim Young-kwang, Kang Young-seok, and Han Sun-hwa, the K-pop idol has just dropped his second mini album, Else, with an accompanying music video for the lead single “Saturday Preacher.” Awash in retro sound, the song is a mix of funk and disco elements, gaining an extra shine thanks to Cha Eun-woo’s smooth falsetto. In a press release by the artist’s agency Fantagio shared his introduction of “Saturday Preacher,” highlighting its “unique charm” that reveals a new side of him. “Even Aroha [fandom name] will get hooked,” he said. Speaking of that distinctness, “Saturday Preacher” is a change of pace from Cha Eun-woo’s signature slow jams such as “Love So Fine,” “Don’t Cry, My Love,” “Stay,” and “Focus on Me.” If you’ve listened to his previous album, Entity, you know what to expect: chill, R&B, and soulful ballads. But “Saturday Preacher” is different altogether—a lively disco tune that’s the first of its kind coming from Cha Eun-woo’s discography. It’s surely a big shift, but one that perfectly aligns with the album Else’s mission: to reveal a more dynamic and versatile side of the artist. The song’s theme is about someone who looks strong on the outside but is actually having a hard time. However, the cracks, reflected by the scar on Cha Eun-woo’s face in the music video and his portrayal of two contrasting characters—an ordinary man and his darker counterpart—highlight the dichotomy. Through the visuals, Cha Eun-woo is seemingly leading you on his journey of self-discovery, trading his perfect image for a more raw, intense version of himself. This inner struggle sets the tone for the song’s exploration of a Saturday night and the party mood it brings along. The song title compares the night to a preacher who channels that excitement and raw energy despite the struggles within. “Let’s go get stuck in the fever,” the artist sings, inviting himself into the thrill of the moment, where the music and crowd consume him, filling the void inside him, and giving him a sense of purpose. The song’s electronic texture and the hook “Saturday preacher,” although a bit repetitive, enhance its appeal. And the best part is that it ends up being a sound that’s both familiar and fresh—it’s still got the dreamy soft tone we love about Cha Eun-woo, while still infusing it with the energy of a Saturday night out. Why ‘Nana’ Is A Resounding Homage to Punk Rock

Entertainment As Ai Yazawa’s cult manga ‘Nana’ celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, here’s a quick look at how punk rock meets girl in this Shōjo series (Left) A model walks the runway at the Vivienne Westwood Red Label show at London Fashion Week AW14 at on February 16, 2014 in London, England and the Red Heart Jacket as seen in ‘Nana.’ Photo: Antonio de Moraes Barros Filho/WireImage, Ai Yazawa What’s the real punk rock? Without sounding like Clark Kent in the latest Superman film, punk (or punk-rock) is the anti-establishment subculture that burst onto the scene in the mid-1970s. At the time, the youth were disillusioned and disenchanted, and punk was born as a reaction against everything the previous generations stood for. Punks tightly wrapped themselves in artfully distressed tartan, held together by a plethora of safety pins, and secured with an insane amount of styling gel.   Punk, like any subculture, has a very distinct aesthetic and style that embodies its rebellious spirit, and one of the best-known names when it comes to pioneering punk fashion is Vivienne Westwood. Along with Malcom McLaren (her partner at the time), Westwood brought New York’s punk rebellion across the pond and unleashed it onto the streets of London at their store on 430 King’s Road, London —SEX. That King’s Road address became the birthplace of punk in the United Kingdom. The band Sex Pistols, founded and managed by McLaren, originated at SEX, with Westwood designing the couture. One of punk’s most definitive bands, the Sex Pistols were partly responsible for popularizing the aesthetic.   Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren and friend designer Viviane Westwood outside Bow Street Magistrate Court. Photo: Daily Mirror / Bill Kennedy/Mirrorpix/Mirrorpix via Getty Images Cut to the Eighties, Westwood opened her first international store in Tokyo. The avant-garde fashion quickly caught the eye of the alternate scene there, and by the Nineties, most fashion magazines catering to those subcultures, featured pieces by Westwood. Today Japan has more Vivienne Westwood stores than the U.K., including the RED LABEL, which is a Japan exclusive.   But what really boosted this punk brand’s popularity was a manga — Nana.  Ai Yazawa, Nana’s creator, was a fashion school dropout from Osaka Mode Gakuen, who quit to seriously focus on the career she always dreamt of—a mangaka. Nonetheless, her affinity for the fashion world comes through in her art style and approach to character identity — Nana is arguably one of the best homages to punk fashion.   Nana follows the story of two girls, both named Nana, who meet on a train enroute to Tokyo. Aside from their names, they couldn’t be further apart. But despite their dichotomy, they strike up a strong friendship, renting apartment 707 (‘7’ is read as nana in Japanese). Together, the girls navigate love, loss and everything in between, finding themselves drifting through the uncertainties of adulthood in Tokyo in the early 2000s.    The armour ring (left) worn by Osaki in ‘Nana’ (right). Photos: Vivienne Westwood, Ai Yazawa While Nana Komatsu (called Hachi), leaned towards frills, lace, lighter tones that suited her softer demeanor, Nana Osaki threw herself headfirst into the maelstrom of punk. Osaki becomes the lead singer of the Black Stones (aka BLAST), a punk rock band in her hometown and starts a relationship with the group’s bassist Ren Honjo. Thus begins the volatile relationship between Ren and Nana that mirrors the relationship between Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen (Ren’s appearance, character and trajectory in life is loosely based on the former). Osaki even gifts him a padlock necklace that looks like an exact replica of Sid Vicious’s own. He’s a fan of the Sex Pistols and it is he who opens the doors of punk rock to Osaki.       The series has spawned an anime series, two live-action films, video games and several tribute albums. Nana Best (2007) is the compilation of the OST used in the anime. Punk Night from Nana (2003) is an album that has tracks inspired by BLAST’s set list and performances, including covers of Sex Pistols’ songs. The album that stands out the most, however, is Love for Nana (2005) which is a tribute to the series in which Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock provides one of the tracks dedicated to BLAST, coming full circle.  Nana Osaki’s go-to fashion house is Vivienne Westwood. It is perhaps one of Nana’s greatest mysteries how a broke, aspiring punk rockstar could afford the pieces featured in the manga. Of course, some of them are gifts, albeit expensive ones.      Osaki is almost always sporting the Vivienne Westwood Armour ring, perhaps as a metaphor to the ‘armour’ she wears to protect herself from the harsh world around her.   The Rocking Horse Ballerina shoes. Photos: Viviennewestwood.com, Ai Yazawa She also wears the iconic red heart-shaped jacket from the Harris Tweed collection, designed by Vivienne Westwood, Autumn Winter 1987-88. It makes multiple appearances, not just in the manga and anime, but also in official artwork.   The Rocking Horse Ballerina shoes, which first appeared in the Spring Summer 1985 ‘Mini-Crini’ catwalk show, is also rocked by Osaki for performances along with the Super Elevated Ghillie Platforms —the very same infamous ones which caused Naomi Campbell’s fall on the runway in 1993. Osaki, however, stands tall throughout, defying the laws of physics while belting out tunes for BLAST’s gigs.   And it’s not just Nana Osaki who has a penchant for the designer; other characters do too. Shinichi Okazaki, BLAST’s second bassist, borrows a lot from Westwood’s 1974 Bondage collection.   Shinichi Osaki wearing the Bondage outfit in ‘Nana’ and the real outfit (right). Photos: Ai Yazawa, NGV Collection Online The signature Saturn Orb symbol (from Vivienne Westwood’s iconic logo) also makes its appearance in all forms– from earrings and necklaces to, most notably, Okazaki’s lighter.   Thus, Vivienne Westwood and Nana have always been intrinsically linked together and now in a very strange turn of events for the 25th anniversary of Nana, the two are having an official collaboration.
