Photo: Universal Pictures When the long-running and beloved musical Wicked was adapted into a film and released last year, it was no doubt lauded for its songs, sung by lead actors Cynthia Erivo (who plays Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West) and Ariana Grande (as Glinda the Good). A year later, the sequel Wicked: For Good — in theaters worldwide on Nov. 21, 2025 — adapts the second act of the musical by theater composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who’s also written two new original songs for the screen. In addition to reshaping songs from the original 2024 film soundtrack, Wicked: For Good has “No Place Like Home” written for Elphaba (with Erivo also getting writing credits) and “The Girl in the Bubble” written for Glinda. Referring to Glinda’s song, Schwartz exclusively tells Rolling Stone India, “In this film, Glinda reaches a point of crisis where she just cannot continue to live the way she has been. She has been insulated from what is really going on, cutting off her own morality and sense of decency in order to have the trappings of what she thinks she wants. Photo: Universal Pictures For Elphaba’s song, “No Place Like Home,” Schwartz says it was important to show how much the Wicked Witch of the West actually loves Oz. Schwartz says, “Although it has not been very good to her, it is her home, and all of her heart and soul wants to stay there, fight for it, and make it a better place. When you are born somewhere, that place becomes part of you, and you cannot really explain why. That is a universal feeling, and I tried to capture that in this song.” It led to going in a different thematic direction compared to Glinda’s song, and also makes a reference to the famous line “there’s no place like home” from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Buzzing with excitement about the new music he got to write and compose for Wicked: For Good, Schwartz also spoke about reworking the previous songs for a 12-track OST that will be released alongside the film on Nov. 21, 2025. He says, “There are the two new songs, but several of the other songs are not just reinterpreted in terms of performance but actually extensively rewritten, too. That, of course, is always challenging, but I am a writer, and that is the challenge that keeps me excited and keeps me going back to the piano.” Schwartz has long been a powerhouse in composing music for stage musicals and films, with credits ranging from The Hunchback of Notre Dame to Enchanted. The Mission Impossible actor accepted an honorary Oscar on Sunday night at the Governors Awards, giving an emotional speech that paid tribute to his history with movies. The award was presented by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is directing Cruise in an upcoming film set for release next October. It marks Cruise’s first Oscar, although he has previously been nominated four times, including for Best Actor for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire. “The cinema, it takes me around the world,” Cruise told the audience (via Variety). “It helps me to appreciate and respect differences. It shows me also our shared humanity, how alike we are in so, so many ways. And no matter where we come from, in that theater, we laugh together, we feel together, we hope together, and that is the power of this art form. And that is why it matters, that is why it matters to me. So making films is not what I do, it is who I am.” The actor also reflected on his love for cinema, which “began at a very early age.” He remembered doing whatever he could to get into the theater to see films. “I was just a little kid in a darkened theater, and I remember that beam of light just cut across the room, and I remember looking up, and it seemed to be just exploded on the screen,” he recalled. “Suddenly, the world was so much larger than the one that I knew. Entertainment Johnson Wen, a self-described “stage invader,” pleaded guilty to one count of being a public nuisance in Singapore Grande at the 16th Motion Picture Academy Governors Awards VALERIE MACON/AFP/Getty Images The man who grabbed Ariana Grande at the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore has been sentenced to nine days in jail, The Straits Times reports.  Johnson Wen, 26, was sentenced Monday, Nov. 17, after pleading guilty to one charge of being a public nuisance. Wen is a self-proclaimed “stage invader,” who’s garnered some infamy for getting past security at live music and sporting events, including Katy Perry and the Weeknd concerts, and the 2023 Women’s World Cup Final.  In sentencing Wen for the Wicked incident, Judge Christopher Goh cited his past behavior, noting that he had yet to face any repercussions. “Perhaps you thought the same would occur here, but Mr. Wen, you are wrong,” Goh said. “You should be mindful that there are always consequences for one’s actions.” Adding that he believed Wen’s actions were premeditated, Goh said, “You seem to be attention-seeking, thinking only of yourself, and not the safety of others, when committing these acts.” At the Nov. 13 Wicked: For Good premiere, Wen was captured on video jumping the security barricades while Grande and her co-stars were walking the carpet. He appeared to aggressively grab Grande and pull her into an embrace. Cynthia Erivo could be seen shoving Wen away from Grande and checking that she wasn’t hurt. Security grabbed Wen and removed him from the scene, but he reportedly returned and tried to jump over the barricade again. This time, though, security was able to stop him. In a video posted on his social media page later, Wen wrote, “Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.”  Wen was eventually arrested and charged on Nov. 14, and he’s been in custody ever since. During his court hearing, prosecutors labeled Wen a “serial intruder” and asked the judge to hand down a week-long jail sentence.  At one point, Judge Goh asked Wen if he wanted to speak, to which he replied: “I won’t do it again, Your Honor.” When Goh asked Wen if he was just “paying lip service,” or if he actually intended to stop, Wen said, “Yes, I am going to stop.”  During a recent Wicked event in Los Angeles, Erivo addressed the incident while talking about what the films mean for both fans, as well as for the two lead actresses. “We have come through some shit,” she said. “We have come through some stuff in our lives, in our daily workings. I mean, fuck, even this last week. At the cathartic climax, Charli stomps on the glass table, sending up a storm of shards. Both songs will appear on the Wuthering Heights companion album, which Charli crafted with songwriters/producers Finn Keane and Justin Raisen. Wuthering Heights the movie — which co-stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi — is set to arrive Feb. 14, 2026, while the album is slated to drop Feb. 13.  In a recent statement, Charli said her approach to the companion album was heavily inspired by a quote Cale gave in Todd Haynes’ 2021 documentary The Velvet Underground: “One thing that stuck with me was how John Cale described a key sonic requirement of the Velvet Underground,” she wrote in a note to fans. “That any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal.’ I got really stuck on that phrase. I write it down on my notes app and would pull it up from time to time and think about what he meant.” Though not technically a solo album, Wuthering Heights will be Charli XCX’s first project since her hit 2024 album, Brat.  “After being so in the depths of my previous album I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite,” she said of embarking on the project after Fennell sent her a copy of the script. “When I think of Wuthering Heights I think of many things.
