Respected trainer Chris Waller hits out at Racing NSW over wet Randwick track: ‘Not a roulette wheel’
Respected trainer Chris Waller has slammed Racing NSW just hours out from Saturday’s highly anticipated Winx Stakes at Royal Randwick. Waller has already pulled out the highly rated Fangirl from the Group 1, and there are now fears his superstar mare Via Sistina might also be a late scratching due to the Heavy 10 track. “I’ll start with a whinge, I don’t they should be racing today,” Waller said on Sky Racing’s Racing HQ on Saturday morning. Whinge over.” Star mare Via Sistina could be a late scratching in the Group 1 Winx Stakes. Waller also has superstar jockey James McDonald riding hot favourite Autumn Glow in the Group 3 race prior to the Winx Stakes. But he said the industry needed a rethink and the tracks needed a spell when they had been soaked by rain. “As an industry, we can’t just make decisions when we’re emotional or on days like this,” Waller said. “We’ve got to say is, Look, last month what were we doing racing on Randwick? What were we doing racing on Rosehill? “We’ve got all these big horses and big races coming back so we’ve got to respect the tracks. “They just don’t grow through the winter months and curators can only do so much.” Read More
