BENGALURU: The State Government constituted retired Justice Nagamohan Das Commission on internal reservation for members of Scheduled Castes in Karnataka submitted its report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Monday which is of 1,766 pages and the Commission has made 6 recommendations. The survey was conducted through a mobile application survey.

On receipt of the report, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said to place the Commission report at the cabinet meeting on August 7 and take a decision on it.

After submission of his Commission report to the Chief Minister, Nagamohan Das told reporters the Commission submitted its report to the State Government after analysing data gathered from the survey of members of Scheduled Castes.

Earlier, he said, the Commission on internal reservation submitted its interim report to the State Government on March 27, 2025 and made an appeal to hold a fresh survey of members of Scheduled Castes in Karnataka which was okayed by the State Government.

The fresh survey of SCs was necessitated after it was found dearth of empirical data. A fresh survey of members of Scheduled Castes in Karnataka commenced from May 2025 till July 6, 2025, Jagamohan Das said and stated the State Government has powers to provide internal reservation.

Jagamaohan Das pointed out the Supreme Court on August 1, 2024 gave a judgment wherein it stated internal reservation is Constitutional permissible and stated “Providing internal reservation is nothing but extension of social justice.” In India, Das said, members of Scheduled Castes are a heterogeneous group and stated “The members of SCs deserve internal reservation.”

Speaking to reporters, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge said Nagamohan Das sumibitted his Commission report to the Chief Minister and providing internal reservations to the members of SCs was part of the Congress party manifesto during Assembly elections-2023.

Kharge added “We have done a scientific survey and most of the people have been counted barring some from urban areas who have not come forward to participate in the survey.” The report will come up for discussion in the cabinet meeting and come to know the recommendations the Commission has made to the State Government.
