Official unveiling of the Repairability Index logo during the inaugural session of the National Consumer Day 2025 celebrations
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on Wednesday has unveiled the official logo of the Repairability Index during the inaugural session of the National Consumer Day 2025 celebrations held here.
The unveiling of the logo marks a significant milestone in India’s consumer protection and sustainability agenda, Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Minister of New and Renewable Energy said adding that the Repairability Index initiative seeks to operationalise the “Right to Repair” framework developed by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
The Department’s objective is to empower consumers through transparent information on the ease of repair of products across key sectors, including automobiles, mobile phones and electronics, consumer durables, and farming equipment, he said.
The logo is intended to serve as a clear and recognisable certification mark, enabling consumers to make informed purchasing decisions while encouraging manufacturers to adopt repair-friendly product designs, he added.
The logo was selected through a nationwide Logo Design Competition organised by the Chair on Consumer Law at National Law University Delhi, established by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
The competition was conceived as a participatory initiative to crowdsource creative ideas from citizens and to foster wider public engagement with the principles underlying the Repairability Index. The initiative is aligned with the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) Movement and the R3 philosophy of Reduce, Repair, Reuse and Recycle, aimed at promoting sustainable consumption and a circular economy.
