Corporate Air files bankruptcy as fleet shrinks; other airlines face financial trouble

General

Corporate Air, an American airline, has filed for bankruptcy after making its fleet much smaller. The airline filed for bankruptcy in Pennsylvania in September. At its biggest size, Corporate Air had 43 planes, mostly used for cargo services. Now the airline only has three planes left — a Citation II, a Citation X, and a G280.

Company bosses reduced the fleet size heavily last year. Corporate Air has received a lifeline from Vantage Aviation, an aircraft rental service, to help keep the business alive. Corporate Air leaders are trying to secure around $4.5 million from Vantage to support operations. The company reported between $10 million and $50 million in liabilities at the time of the bankruptcy filing, reported by The Sun.

General Corporate Air bankruptcy update

Officials think the bankruptcy process may take about 90 days. The airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This means it will reorganize and keep running. It is different from Chapter 7, where a company closes completely and sells everything. Corporate Air is not the only airline facing trouble. Several airlines have filed for bankruptcy in recent months.

General More airlines facing financial trouble

Verijet filed for bankruptcy last month after its founder died of a suspected heart attack. Kachina Air also filed for bankruptcy in Texas, and its future is currently uncertain. When Kachina Air filed, it had a small fleet of two PA-31-350 Chieftain planes, as stated by The Sun. Even big airlines are having problems. Spirit Airlines has filed for bankruptcy two times in the last few years.

The first time was in November 2024, and the airline survived. The second time was in August 2025, and it is now restructuring again. Spirit wants to save hundreds of millions of dollars.

As part of this plan, pilots and flight attendants will be temporarily laid off. Next year, 365 pilots will be furloughed, and 170 pilots will have lower job status, according to The Sun. Spirit has already furloughed around 330 pilots, and another 270 furloughs are planned.
