Cubs Rumors: Pete Crow-Armstrong Far From Satisfied With Chicago’s Initial Contract Extension Offer

Pete Crow-Armstrong has emerged as one of the premier players in all of baseball. His tenure in Chicago could be coming to an end, though, as the Cubs superstar seems less than pleased with the early stages of developing a new contract. Even though Chicago has one of the best records in baseball, all of that could be thrown away if they’re unable to extend PCA long-term.

Chicago Cubs and Pete Crow-Armstrong Remain Far Off in Contract Negotiations

If there’s one thing to know about PCA’s negotiations, it’s that things have been in development for months. Crow-Armstrong was offered a deal back when the Cubs played the Los Angeles Dodgers in Tokyo. It’s a deal that seemed to be a slap in the face rather than a serious offer. Since turning it down, PCA became an All-Star for the first time in his career.

“The Cubs and Crow-Armstrong’s camp explored that idea in spring training and around the season-opening Tokyo Series,” Patrick Mooney of The Athletic said. “The two sides did not find enough common ground, and soon after, Crow-Armstrong blossomed into an All-Star and one of the sport’s most magnetic personalities.”

PCA’s WAR sits at 6.2, by far the best on the team. Kyle Tucker is in second place with 4.6, with Nico Hoerner being the only other player with a number above four. All season long, the third-year player and Seiya Suzuki have traded off leading the team in home runs. Currently, PCA’s 27 is good enough for first place.

The lefty admitted to Mooney that he wasn’t curious about what moves the Cubs were going to make at the deadline. Justin Verlander’s brother, Ben, was less than pleased with Chicago for not adding a starting pitcher. He believes that with PCA in charge and all of the talent this Cubs team has, they were only a pitcher away from beating the best teams in the league.

Even the Orioles MASN broadcast couldn’t believe this strike three call on Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong.

After the All-Star game, the outfielder picked up right where he left off. A five-game hitting streak increased his batting average to .270. PCA recorded three hits in the Cubs’ 10-3 win over the Brewers in their series finale, though ultimately the Cubs lost the series. Now, they find themselves 65-46, two games behind Milwaukee.

Five hits and two RBIs were recorded in a three-game period before Crow-Armstrong went hitless in his last two games. PCA has struck out seven times in his last nine at-bats. The 23-year-old is in the bottom five percent of the league with a BB% of 4.4. His K% sits at 24.2, slightly up from the 23.9 it was last season.
