Cyclone Montha loses strength over Andhra coast, triggers heavy rainfall across AP and Telangana
In neighbouring Telangana, the impact of Montha has led to widespread showers since morning in Hyderabad, with a heavy rain alert issued for multiple districts, including Adilabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

Cyclone Montha, which intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) on Tuesday, weakened into a Cyclonic Storm early Wednesday as it moved northwestwards over coastal Andhra Pradesh
The Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS), Montha, over coastal Andhra Pradesh has moved northwestwards at 10 kmph over the past six hours and weakened into a Cyclonic Storm (CS), according to the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA).
It lay centred at 02.30 hrs on Wednesday, about 50 km northeast of Machilipatnam, 90 km west-southwest of Kakinada, 230 km southwest of Visakhapatnam, and 470 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), APDMA said in a bulletin at 6.30 am today.
“It is likely to move nearly northwestwards across coastal Andhra Pradesh and maintain its intensity of Cyclonic Storm (CS) during the next 6 hours and weaken further into a deep depression during the subsequent 6 hours. The latest observations indicate that the rear sector of the cyclonic storm “Montha” entered the land,” the bulletin said. Light to moderate rains are likely in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh today, it added.
