It has been a wild ride for Matthew Stafford over the last few months. After a possible exit from the Los Angeles Rams and even retirement rumors made the rounds early in the offseason, it all turned out to be for naught as the superstar quarterback returned to his hunting grounds. However, a new injury caused a wrinkle in the entire operation.
Head coach Sean McVay broke down the severity of the injury Stafford suffered. To put it mildly, things don’t look too good. However, the situation could very quickly go from bad to worse for Los Angeles, judging by the latest string of posts from the quarterback’s wife, Kelly Stafford. It could be seemingly nothing, but the timing of her messaging does raise a few eyebrows.
Kelly Stafford Messaging for Matthew Stafford: Just a Coincidence? Or Is It Something Deeper?
Entering his age-37 season, the expectations are sky high for Stafford and the Rams. The organization has been trying to make it back to the Super Bowl after its victory a few years ago. However, it hasn’t come to pass so far.
Unfortunately, the 2025 season could get off to a slow start. McVay made it clear that a sore back was going to keep the veteran quarterback out of action for the next week. Clarifying, he made it clear that Stafford would progress “one week at a time.”
Moreover, he made it clear that the target for the franchise was to have him ready in time for their season opener against the Houston Texans on September 7. But, while his availability at the start of the season is a question mark, Kelly Stafford has set the world ablaze with her latest comments.
Taking to Instagram, the wife of the former Super Bowl champion posted two stories in quick succession answering questions from the fans. While her answers were relatively straightforward, the specific question she chose to respons to, left fans wondering.

“Most excited for when Matthew retires?” The prompt read. And Kelly responded in kind. Sharing her two favorites, the first answer, accompanied by a picture of their children, read, “Not throwing up every Sunday during the fall. Oh, and just spending more time with him while parenting these (not so) little ones.”
On the second, she wrote, “Maybe people will actually start to call him by his real name?” The hilarious response had an equally creative image with it, where she was sporting a hoodie with the words, “It’s Matthew. Not Matt,” written on the back.
The answers, or her demeanor in general, don’t suggest that the veteran is about to call it quits just yet. But, between the rumors at the start of the offseason and the timing of these answers with the injuries, fans can’t help but speculate that something dramatic might be afoot.
