Dulac: Aaron Rodgers Invited Players Over To Watch Film On His Birthday

For his 42nd birthday, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers got more than a new wide receiver in Adam Thielen. He got an informal film session to try to get his offense back on track. Per the PPG’s Gerry Dulac, Rodgers invited the skill position players over to his house on Tuesday, the team’s day off.

And the group did more than bring their notepad and pencil. Wide receiver Ben Skowronek brought some cake.

Aaron Rodgers had his receivers, tight ends and RBs to his house tonight to watch film and go over plays,” Dulac tweeted Tuesday night. “Ben Skowronek brought a decorated cake and the players sang Happy Birthday to Rodgers, who turned 42 on Tuesday.

During his press conference following Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers intimated that not everyone was attending film studies. But his comments were unclear. If these were mandatory visits or informal ones like tonight. It sounds like there was strong attendance for Tuesday’s session.

Pittsburgh is coming off a horrible showing in Week 13. The offense ran just 43 plays and recorded 166 yards of offense, posting seven points that was aided by good field position off a Bills’ turnover. Rodgers had one of the worst games of his 21-year career, completing less than half of his passes while being stripped sacked for a defensive touchdown to open the third quarter.

Rodgers was not in-sync with his receivers throughout the game. He missed TE Jonnu Smith open over the middle on a mesh concept. Later, Smith missed a pre-snap signal from Rodgers and ran the wrong route, thwarting a potential touchdown. Rodgers also missed throws to receivers, including a deep ball to wide receiver Roman Wilson.

After a hot start, Rodgers and the Steelers’ offense has faded. After throwing four touchdowns in the season opener, he’s thrown just four over his last four starts. Pittsburgh’s offense has struggled in multiple recent games, posting 10 points against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10 before notching only seven against Buffalo.

The best birthday gift Rodgers could get is a big offensive showing and win over the Baltimore Ravens in a game that has major implications on not just the AFC North but the playoffs. The loser of the division has an incredibly tough path making the Wild Card.
