Dulac: Broderick Jones To Miss Remainder Of Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed OT Broderick Jones on injured reserve Saturday, which means he has to miss the next four games. Per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, it will be a longer absence for Jones, as Dulac reported on Sunday that Jones’ neck injury will knock him out for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Broderick Jones has a neck injury that is more serious than originally thought and will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, per sources.

Jones exited the Steelers’ Week 12 game against the Bears with the injury, which was initially described as a stinger. Clearly, the injury is more severe and Jones will reportedly not return for the Steelers this season.

On the KDKA Steelers Kickoff Show, Dulac expanded on Jones’ injury.

“Broderick Jones will not play the rest of the season I’ve been told. It was a freakish kind of incident in how he got hurt in Chicago. He’s going to miss the rest of the regular season, he’s going to have a bit of a recovery going forward,” Dulac said. “I’ve been told that Andrus Peat will likely step in and be his replacement, but Broderick Jones’ progress has been on the upswing, he’s been very good. It’s a big loss for the Steelers.”

In his place, the Steelers are starting OT Andrus Peat today, and if Peat plays well, he’ll likely be the left tackle going forward for Pittsburgh. The Steelers also have Calvin Anderson, but they’re opting to keep him as the swing tackle behind Peat and Troy Fautanu.

Jones has yet to miss a game due to injury in his career. He appeared in 17 games last season with 16 starts, while also appearing in 17 games with 11 starts as a rookie. The Steelers will have to make a decision on Jones’ fifth-year option this offseason, and not getting a full season to evaluate his play will make that an interesting decision. After a slow start to the season, Jones began playing well, and while his play has been up-and-down, the team may still value him as a starting tackle.

Currently, the fifth-year option for Jones is estimated at $19.949 million per Over The Cap and would apply to the 2027 season.

Losing Jones is a blow to Pittsburgh’s offensive line, which has largely remained healthy this season. OG Isaac Seumalo missed one game due to an injury, but other than that, the line has been healthy all season. Losing Jones is a big shakeup and the Steelers will need Peat to step up, especially with QB Aaron Rodgers dealing with multiple fractures in his wrist.

Dulac didn’t specify if there’s a chance that Jones could return for the postseason, so it sounds as if Jones won’t return even if the Steelers find themselves playing postseason football. His absence is a blow to the offense and could hurt the team’s playoff chances.

Outside of Peat and Anderson, the Steelers also have OT Dylan Cook and OL Jack Driscoll, who is capable of playing tackle, on the team’s practice squad if their current options don’t work out. Peat has plenty of experience and started at left tackle for the New Orleans Saints in 2023, and Mike Tomlin is confident he can replace Jones. He’s going to need to step up in his first real opportunity since signing with the Steelers during training camp.
