Eagles News: Jakorian Bennett enters the cornerback competition

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Spadaro: Jakorian Bennett is excited for this chapter with the Eagles – PE.com
“This is a winning organization, so just having that culture, that feeling, it was definitely different. I’m a guy that’s gonna do my job. I’m going to play hard. I’m going to prepare the right way and whatever the coach needs me to do, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability.” That’s the deal, folks. More talent added to the mix. There isn’t a magic formula here and the Eagles understand that. They made a trade sending off one good player and receiving one back. Bennett has a lot to catch up on in a short period time, so that is all that matters now. He’s likely to play against Cleveland on Saturday after two days of work against the Browns in joint practices. We will get a good sense of what he’s all about then and what impact he could have at cornerback, a position the Eagles are challenging in a big way midway through Training Camp, 2025.

Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Oh yeah, that Jalen Carter guy is pretty good – BGN
Jakorian Bennett participated in practice for the first time since the Eagles traded for him last week. Bennett’s first action in team drills came when he rotated in at right cornerback with the second-team defense. That’s notable since Ringo and Jackson have mostly repped at RCB this offseason. Bennett later took third-team RCB reps. He wasn’t really noticeable, except for when he gave up a tightly contested slant reception to Taylor Morin for a successful two-point conversion try.

Jahan Dotson spent the offseason building chemistry with Jalen Hurts — and it’s showing in Eagles camp – Inquirer
“[Hurts] doesn’t want drop-off,” Dotson said. “Going back to last year, we played Tampa Bay, and [Smith] and [Brown] were out, we didn’t have that connection. It was two weeks, three weeks. When those opportunities come, whether those two, someone’s not practicing or someone’s not playing, they feel like there’s no drop-off, so that he’s comfortable with me.” This year, Dotson had a full offseason to train with the Eagles and learn the playbook before heading out onto the field. Dotson is in a contract year, after the Eagles declined his $16.8 million player option. To further develop his game, he trained with Hurts in Houston for several weeks this summer. Hurts is “extremely” hands-on about how he wants the receivers to run routes and where he wants them to be on the field, Dotson said. After a different quarterback and training camp in Washington, Dotson said the lack of lead time kept him a step behind in learning the playbook and the details Hurts needed to see in the receivers’ game. Those weekly throwing sessions in Houston with Hurts helped Dotson talk through the playbook and build the chemistry that was missing last season.

An interesting turn in the Kyle McCord-Dorian Thompson-Robinson 3rd QB battle – NBCSP
Kyle McCord was the hot-shot rookie from Syracuse who led college football in passing last year, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson was the Browns castoff with the worst touchdown-interception ratio in the NFL in the last 50 years. The competition for the Eagles’ 3rd-string quarterback spot hasn’t gone quite the way you might have expected a month ago. McCord, the rookie 5th-round pick, has struggled much of training camp and had a tough NFL debut in the preseason opener vs. the Bengals. But DTR, after a difficult first few days of practice, has looked sharp and is clearly in the lead for the No. 3 spot behind Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee. “It’s a natural progression,” Thompson-Robinson said of his improvement over the past week and a half. “Obviously, coming in at OTAs and everything, you are kind of at the bottom of the depth chart and you have to work your way through getting some reps here and there.

Eagles DC Vic Fangio’s updated thoughts on a bunch of his defensive players – PhillyVoice
On the edge rusher depth… “Yeah, we need some guys to surface behind the first couple and I think some of them are making good strides,” Fangio said. “I think Uche is getting better. He’s just got to keep learning how we want to do all the little details both against the run and the pass. Ojulari, same. Then the other guys we’re looking for somebody to surface to say, hey, maybe we need to keep this guy.” #JimmySays: I think the “Hey maybe we need to keep this guy” guy is Ogbo Okoronkwo, who maybe has a ways to go as an edge guy who can play the run and drop into coverage, but who has some juice as a pass rusher.

Preseason Game Review – PHI 34, CIN 27 – Iggles Blitz
Darius Cooper had a great game. If cuts were today, he would be part of the 53-man roster. Cooper was 6-82-1. The numbers are good, but how he got them is so much more important. Cooper had terrific releases on multiple plays. He’s got quick feet and has a feel for how to create separation. He ran good routes. Cooper has strong, sure hands. He plucks the ball naturally. He looked like a veteran receiver, not a UDFA from a tiny school.

Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase lead WRs in Madden NFL 26 – ESPN
Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase had already been confirmed as the top wide receivers in Madden NFL 26 thanks to their inclusion in the 99 Club, but there is plenty of future competition for the top spot, as the newly released ratings for the game have shown. [BLG Note: Lol, A.J. Brown is 7th? Below Terry McLaurin!? Get real.]

Tom Brady, Kevin Burkhardt to call Giants-Commanders, Eagles-Chiefs in first two weeks – PFT
The Raiders will be in New England to face the Patriots in Week 1, but Tom Brady won’t be at the matchup between two teams he has close ties to on September 7th. Brady will be in the broadcast booth at Northwest Stadium with Kevin Burkhardt for Fox Sports’ broadcast of the Giants and the Commanders. Sideline reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi will also be at the matchup between NFC East clubs. The same crew will also call Fox’s marquee matchup in Week 2. They will be in Kansas City for a Super Bowl rematch between the Eagles and the Chiefs.

10 thoughts on the Cowboys 31-21 preseason loss to the Rams – Blogging The Boys
Schotty’s debut: It’s hard to get much of a sense of what the team’s new head coach will provide from just one preseason game. After all, he only used his seven iron. While we can’t be too judgy, it wasn’t a great start. He preaches physicality and toughness, and at times, they looked like they were being pushed around. He preaches intelligence, and the units didn’t show much discipline. Even his commitment to running the ball seemed like a broken promise after the offense came out throw-happy. Only time will tell what this team will look like under new management, but so far, from what we saw in this game, there isn’t much to be excited about.

2025 NFL preseason, Week 1: What We Learned from Saturday’s games – NFL.com
Rough start for Milton. Joe Milton III’s one start in New England in 2024 sold the Cowboys on his potential and prompted them to trade for him. His first outing wearing the star might have had the opposite effect. Milton struggled mightily against the Rams Saturday, missing targets, throwing passes into traffic and sailing passes beyond targets downfield. His best moment came as a runner on a read option in the first half, and when given a chance to show off his arm strength, he launched a missile into double coverage, ending in an interception. To his credit, Milton started to settle in more late in the third quarter but it was a far cry from that memorable Week 18 performance he enjoyed last season.

Jaxson Dart has promising debut for New York Giants – Big Blue View
Jaxson Dart showed the New York Giants everything they hoped to see from the rookie quarterback on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills. Dart, the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, looked every bit like the team’s quarterback of the future.

Peyton Manning is just like us: Ready for football season – SB Nation
Peyton Manning is ready for football season. Consider that Peyton is one of the greatest football players to live, is an active broadcaster for football and has forgotten more about this game that we all love than any of us will ever know. Yet he is just like us. In an exclusive Q&A session that SB Nation is proud to share, Peyton touched on some of the things he is most looking forward to this NFL season. It should come as no surprise to hear that he is pumped to watch the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Volunteers, but something that stood out here was one of the games he was most looking forward to.
