Putrda Ekadashi August 2025
Ekadashi is a sacred day in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees offer prayers to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day. They also observe a fast in their honour. Special rituals and ceremonies are held in Vishnu temples, particularly in honour of Lakshmi Narayan (goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu).
Ekadashi literally means “the eleventh” and refers to the eleventh day of a fortnight belonging to a lunar month. Hence, Ekadashi is celebrated twice a month.
According to Hindu beliefs, worshipping Lord Vishnu on Ekadashi fulfils all wishes of the devotee and brings relief from various troubles and challenges.
Over time, it is also believed to enhance one’s happiness and good fortune. That’s why devotees, with deep faith, perform Lakshmi Narayan puja on Ekadashi.
According to Drik Panching, “Ekadashi fasting spans for three days. Devotees take single meal in the afternoon a day before fasting day to make sure there is no residual food in the stomach on next day. Devotees keep strict fast on Ekadashi day and break the fast on next day only after sunrise. Eating of all type of grains and cereals is prohibited during Ekadashi fasting.”

General Putrada Ekadashi (4–5 August 2025)
Putrada Ekadashi is the day after the Dashami (tenth day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) in the month of Shravan. According to the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi tithi begins at 11:41 AM on August 4 and ends at 1:12 PM on August 5.
Scholars suggest that Putrada Ekadashi will be observed on August 5. Devotees may keep a fast and worship Lord Vishnu with full devotion on this day.
General Auspicious prayers on Putrada Ekadashi
Astrologers say that Ravi Yoga and Bhadra Vaas Yoga are present on this day. Worshipping Lakshmi Narayan during Ravi Yoga is believed to bless the devotee with good health and greatly enhance happiness and prosperity.
General Aja Ekadashi (18–19 August 2025)
Aja Ekadashi takes place after the Dashami of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. It is also known as Annada Ekadashi.
As per the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi tithi begins at 5:22 PM on August 18 and ends at 3:32 PM on August 19. Therefore, Aja Ekadashi will be celebrated on 19th August.
Significance
Putruda Ekadashi fasting is believed to bless childless couples with the boon of a child. More broadly, fasting on Ekadashi helps rid the devotee of sorrow and difficulties.
