Exports from Tiruchi in 2024-25 stands at $142 million, says FIEO director

The export from Tiruchi district during 2024-25 year has stood at $142 million, according to Selvanayagi, director, Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO), Southern Region.

Speaking at a capacity building programme for exporters organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations in association with the Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Chennai, and the Export Import Federation, Tiruchi, she said rice, spices, fruits, vegetables, and fruits were among the products exported from the city. Agro chemicals and engineering products were exported from Tiruchi. The volume of export was quite convincing. The trend showed that the export continued to climb every year thanks to the good ecosystem. The district had great potential to increase the foreign trade.

Calling upon the exporters to tap the potential, Ms. Selvanayagi said the micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs should make use of the demand from different countries to produce the materials. The capacity building initiatives would offer support and guidance to the exporters and entrepreneurs. It would enable them to access global markets effectively. The FIEO would facilitate knowledge dissemination and policy advocacy.

Tasleem Ahmed, Deputy Director-General of Foreign Trade, Chennai, elaborated on various trade facilitation initiatives of DGFT aimed at easing procedures, improving transparency and enhancing India’s export competitiveness. He said that recently signed trade agreements with U.K. and Oman will help exporters in Tiruchi. He explained the benefit of “Trade Connect Portal” initiated by DGFT for reaching global markets.

N. Kanagasabapathy, president, Export Import Federation, Tirchi, who underlined the growing export potential of the Tiruchi region and the need for closer coordination between trade bodies and government agencies to support exporters, said introducing cargo flights from Tiruchi to Singapore, Malaysia, the U.S. and other countries would help the exporters to comply with the order timeline of the overseas clients.

The programme witnessed active participation from more than 100 aspiring entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and trade professionals from the region, with the objective of enhancing export awareness, improving compliance capabilities, and familiarising participants with government initiatives and trade facilitation measures. Experts on the subject made detailed presentation on market intelligence, capacity building programmes, export promotion initiatives, policy support, and hand holding services for new and existing exporters, including an in-depth presentation on how to start an export business, international market opportunities, export documentation and procedures, leveraging government schemes and incentives, export benefits, and accessing trade-support platforms.
