How Long Will Cam Skattebo Be Out? Latest Injury Update and Dislocated Ankle Recovery Time for Giants RB

Cam Skattebo has taken the NFL world by storm as a rookie in 2025. The Arizona State product has impressed fans with his tough running and his fun-loving personality. New York Giants fans have even begun feeling optimism thanks to Skattebo’s emergence alongside fellow rookie Jaxson Dart.

Unfortunately, something no fan ever wants to see happened on Sunday. About halfway through the second quarter in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Skattebo caught a pass over the middle of the field and was dragged down awkwardly. It was immediately clear that Skattebo was hurt badly, and the rookie had to be carted off the field.

How long will Cam Skattebo be out with the ankle injury?

According to the New York Giants’ senior managing editor, Dan Salomone’s X post, Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. This is the worst-case scenario, and it seemed like the likely outcome upon watching the replay of the injury.

Dr. Jesse Morse, a sports medicine physician and NFL injury expert, took to social media to give his opinion on the Skattebo injury. “Right ankle dislocation, possible/likely fracture…Season-ending. Similar to Chris Godwin in 2024,” Morse explained.

Morse referenced Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin, who suffered a similar injury in Week 7 of 2024. Godwin suffered a severely dislocated ankle, a fractured fibula, a high ankle sprain, and a torn deltoid ligament. He missed the remainder of the 2024 season and the first three games of 2025.

Skattebo might have to end his rookie campaign with 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns. The rookie also caught 24 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns, and had established himself as one of the go-to playmakers on the offense. PFSN’s RB Impact graded him C+ with a respectable 77.5 impact score for his performance this season.

The Giants will move forward with Tyron Tracy Jr. or veteran Devin Singletary at the running back spot. In Skattebo’s absence against the Eagles, Tracy rushed 10 times for 39 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards. Singletary took two carries for zero yards and caught one pass for 28 yards.

The Giants were unable to get the win in Week 8 and fell by a score of 38-20. Now sitting at 2-6, the team’s next test will be against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9 before taking on the Chicago Bears in Week 10. It will be interesting to see how the offense makes plays without one of its most exciting players for the rest of the season.
