Hyderabad, India 19 August, 2025 – A decade ago, opportunities in new and emerging, high-demand tech fields like Data Science were often concentrated in big cities and elite institutions. For someone from a small town, breaking into these roles required not just talent but access something that was often out of reach.
Today, that’s no longer the case. Technology has democratised education, putting high-quality learning resources, expert mentorship, and global opportunities into the hands of anyone with an internet connection. Career-defining skills are no longer locked away behind city borders or expensive degrees e-learning platforms are ensuring that anyone, anywhere, can step into industries that were once considered out of reach.
From Small Town Rajasthan to Senior BI Developer
Kriti Gupta’s story is a perfect example of this transformation. Coming from a small town in Rajasthan, she graduated with a BSc in Mathematics and initially set her sights on civil services. For two years, she prepared for competitive exams, building a deep understanding of politics and current affairs.
When she realised civil services might not be her lifelong calling, Kriti began exploring other career paths. Her first job was as a Content Developer and Quality Analyst at an e-learning company—an opportunity that unexpectedly introduced her to the power of data in decision-making.
She started creating dashboards to track performance metrics and soon found herself drawn to the idea of building a career in Data Science. But there was a challenge Kriti had no tech background. She couldn’t differentiate between HTML and Python, let alone build analytical models.
The Role of Accessible Learning
In the past, this might have been the end of the road. But with today’s technology-driven education solutions, Kriti could start from scratch without leaving her hometown.
She enrolled in OdinSchool’s Data Science Course, which offered a step-by-step learning journey from installing Python and MySQL to building data dashboards in Power BI. The program provided:
- Beginner-friendly lessons starting from the basics
- Hands-on projects after every module to build real-world skills
- Daily assignments to reinforce learning
- A capstone project that combined everything she had learned
Alongside, Kriti leveraged free online tools like LeetCode and StrataScratch to further hone her skills something unimaginable for learners in remote towns just a few years ago.
Turning Setbacks into Opportunities
Just as she was finishing her course, Kriti faced a career setback she was laid off from her job. Instead of losing momentum, she used this as a push to focus entirely on landing her dream role.
With OdinSchool’s placement support, she received guidance in:
- Resume building with the right keywords to get recruiter attention
- Mock interviews and communication training to boost confidence
- Application strategy to target the right roles
Her efforts paid off Kriti landed a role as a Senior BI Developer at Skillsoft, marking her successful transition into the Data Science industry.
A New Era of Opportunities
Kriti believes that careers in Data Analysis, BI Development, and Data Visualization are now within reach for anyone willing to learn regardless of where they start.
“The resources are out there you just need the determination to use them. Today, you can learn from experts, practice on real-world problems, and prepare for global opportunities without leaving your hometown,” Kriti says.
Her journey is proof that geography is no longer destiny. Technology has levelled the playing field, giving small-town aspirants the tools to learn, adapt, and compete for roles once reserved for a select few. With platforms like OdinSchool bridging the gap between ambition and opportunity, the path to success in Data Science has never been more open.
