The Seattle Sounders kicked off their 2025 Leagues Cup campaign in dominant fashion, demolishing Liga MX powerhouse Cruz Azul 7-0 on Thursday. It was a statement win featuring goals from Yeimar Gomez Andrade, Obed Vargas, Jesus Ferreira, Osaze De Rosario, Nouhou Tolo, and a brace from Pedro de la Vega, showcasing the team’s offensive depth and momentum heading into the rest of the tournament.

In Major League Soccer play, the Sounders have also been strong, currently sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference with 38 points from 24 matches. Their record stands at 10 wins, 8 draws, and 6 losses, with 39 goals scored and 35 conceded, good for a +4 goal differential. In their most recent MLS outing, Seattle earned a 2-2 draw against Atlanta United, with de la Vega and De Rosario once again finding the back of the net.

Santos Laguna, meanwhile, fell 2-1 to the Colorado Rapids despite a 53rd-minute goal by Jordan Carrillo. To end the game, Santos Laguna’s Carlos Acevedo got a red card seven minutes into second-half stoppage time, meaning he will be unavailable for today’s match against the Sounders.

Can Santos Laguna pull off the road upset against the Sounders on Sunday night? Or will Seattle continue its flying form against a second Liga MX club in a row, and secure another big victory?

Tune into FOX Sports 1 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Sunday night to catch an exciting matchup between the Seattle Sounders and Santos Laguna, between a Liga MX club and an MLS club.
