It’s great to see so many single player, story-focused games being announced for the PS5, with Woochi the Wayfarer being the latest of note.

The historical fantasy from Nexon and LoreVault was revealed with a concept trailer earlier this month, and it immediately attracted attention with its authentic Joseon-era depiction.

Now the developer has released a new behind-the-scenes interview outlining its goals and ambitions for the project.

In it, art director Mok Youngmi explains that while the debut trailer was pre-rendered, it was created using in-game assets.

She said:

“We aimed to capture scenes exactly as they appear in-game, so the video could convey the real mood and quality of the title. We’re using 3D scanning and MetaHuman-based facial work to create lifelike characters with an immersive presence.”

Director Kang Dong Yeon added that fans can look forward to a “story-driven single player title with combat”, although he didn’t clarify whether the gameplay will lean closer to Dark Souls or something like Devil May Cry.

He said:

“With our story, we aim to leave players with a lasting emotional impact by the time they reach the ending. Of the various storytelling methods, we especially focus on delivering the narrative through striking cinematic direction. Equally important, we aim to deliver thrilling combat scenes in many forms, creating a game that’s just as fun to play.”

There’s no release date attached to this project just yet, and honestly the interview seems targeted at recruiting developers to its team, so we can’t imagine it’s particularly close.

Still, the premise looks really interesting, and we love the blend of real-life Korean history with fantasy. This is definitely one worth keeping your eye on.
