If the “Upside Down” tastes like this, then sign me up.
I’m sorry to be a hater, but I’m usually pretty bored by store-bought cookies. I love Oreos, but other than that, most others just fall flat. I’ll happily take a freshly baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookie any day. But a packaged confection? No thanks, I’m good.
But a recent taste test changed my tune completely. If you haven’t been keeping up, Stranger Things is a hit Netflix show that combines two things that (almost) everyone loves: the 1980s and the supernatural. With Season 5 premiering this fall, the good people at Netflix teamed up with Chips Ahoy to bring fans something extra-special.
What do the Stranger Things Chips Ahoy cookies taste like?
To be completely transparent with you, my initial reaction when I saw that Chips Ahoy was releasing a new Stranger Things-inspired flavor was, who cares? But then I got my hands on a package.
The Stranger Things Chips Ahoy cookie is a chocolate cookie with fudge chips and a strawberry filling. It’s actually the first time that Chips Ahoy has ever released a fruit flavor, so I was immediately interested to see how that would play out. The red filling represents the “Rifts,” which are the entrance points to the dark, alternate dimension from the TV show, called the “Upside Down.”
Who knew the Upside Down was so tasty? The cookies are soft and crumbly, and the fudge flavor comes through really nicely. I didn’t know how the strawberry filling would fit in with the chocolate cookie, but it was delicious. Since the fudge cookie is so dense and chocolaty, the light fruit filling was a really nice way to balance. These cookies are relatively small in size, so I was able to enjoy several of them with my lunch.
