Personality tests are all the rage nowadays, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t taken a quiz to find out what kind of fruit or spaghetti dish they are. But what if you could use it to determine your character, your ‘hero’ if you will? Well, that’s the core concept Indemni poses to you.
With its rather wacky 2D paper cutout-like characters and 3D world, you’d be forgiven for getting something of an unusual visual novel sensation from Indemni. But far from it, in fact, as this upcoming turn-based RPG hinges itself on building your own distinct character. Those of you interested in trying it out can sign up for early access over on the official website.
Judging by the trailer, this opening ‘initiation’ that determines your character consists of a surprisingly in-depth personality quiz that asks for plenty of information. And invasive or not, Indemni promises all this info will go towards determining your hero, who’ll then go about saving Indemni City.
Hero complex
Indemni’s big selling point (and perhaps what will prove to be its Achilles’ Heel) is the grand amount of content that it promises. Not just a gaming experience, but also a social space for players and a dynamic, evolving companion app. It’s all rather grandiose and impressive-sounding.
At the same time, I can definitely see a place for something like Indemni. But with stiff competition from top releases in the RPG genre, this kind of bold, experimental take might be a bit too strange for an audience most interested in accessing something flashy and full of plenty of curated content.
