IndiGo-BJP ‘bond’ing raises questions about chaos: Congress

The Congress on Saturday asked whether “the financial proximity” of InterGlobe group entities, which runs IndiGo airline, and its promoter to the BJP through the now struck down electoral bonds was responsible for the Centre’s “relentless push to create a duopoly” in the civil aviation sector.

The party also accused the government of showing “extraordinary leniency” to IndiGo despite the chaos it created through mass cancellation of its flights.

At the party’s official briefing on Saturday, Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil said “the revelations surrounding the electoral bonds” have added yet another layer to the issue.

“The data shows that InterGlobe group entities bought around ₹36 crore in electoral bonds, while its promoter Rahul Bhatia purchased about ₹20 crore, much of it encashed by the BJP,” Senthil said.
