IPL Auction 2026: Indian spinner Rahul Chahar goes unsold

General

Indian spinner Rahul Chahar was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 5.2 crore at the IPL Auction 2026 after going unsold in the first round.

Chahar had entered the auction with a base price of ₹1 crore.

Chahar is an experienced bowler with wicket-taking ability and the temperament accustomed to pressure situations.

Chahar first made his mark with Mumbai Indians, playing a key role in their IPL title wins in 2019 and 2020 by taking 28 wickets across the two seasons. He continued his strong performances in the following year, claiming 13 wickets and finishing as Mumbai’s second-most prolific wicket-taker.

The Rajasthan-born bowler played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 and enters the auction after a steady Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025–26 season, where he took six wickets in eight matches at an economy rate of 8.70.

In 2022, he was acquired by Punjab Kings, but his performances dipped over the three seasons he spent with the franchise. Chahar then moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2025, where he was one of the two specialist leg-spinners in the squad alongside Adam Zampa, offering control and wicket-taking ability in the middle overs. Despite his proven track record in T20 cricket, he did not attract any bids this season, leaving his IPL future uncertain.
