Is Amon-Ra St. Brown Hurt? Breaking Down the Lions WR’s Slow Start vs. Ravens on MNF

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has been one of the most trusted receivers for Lions quarterback Jacob Goff during his time with the team. St. Brown is in his fifth NFL season, all with the Lions.

On Monday night, the Lions were battling Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens on the road. With the game tied at 14-14 at halftime, Detroit looks to get more offense coming into the second half.

What’s Happened with Amon-Ra St. Brown?

So far in the first half, Goff has targeted St. Brown four times. He caught all four passes for 22 yards, with his longest reception being a 12-yarder.

St. Brown has not scored a touchdown, but Goff knows that the star receiver can break one out at any time.

Through the Lions’ first two games, St. Brown has 13 catches for 160 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He’s averaging 12.3 yards per catch, too.

St. Brown was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of USC by the Lions. In three seasons with the Trojans, St. Brown totaled 178 catches for 2,270 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also added one rushing touchdown for USC in his collegiate career.

But these days, St. Brown is using his downfield skills to keep the Lions on the scoreboard. In his NFL career, St. Brown has 443 catches for 5,011 yards and 36 touchdown receptions. The 6-foot, 202-pounder knows that he has both a size and speed advantage on cornerbacks and secondaries when he gets loose.

Fantasy Outlook for St. Brown

Heading into Monday night’s game, PFSN’s Kyle Soppe offered some advice about looking at St. Brown for fantasy football players.

“The 2024 Lions weren’t shy about embarrassing you, and it’s good to see that the gas-down mindset didn’t leave town with Ben Johnson,” Soppe wrote.

“Detroit beat Chicago by 31 points over the weekend in a game that wasn’t even that close,” Soppe wrote. “Amon-Ra St. Brown was having a strong afternoon at the office before adding two short fourth-quarter scores, but none of us with him rostered are complaining about the cherry on top.

“St. Brown picked up 34 yards on a crosser for the first play of the game and reached triple digits in receiving yardage before halftime,” Soppe wrote. “The argument could certainly be made that St. Brown’s floor/ceiling profile is as strong as any WR in the game, and while this is a tough matchup being played outdoors, I don’t see how you rank Detroit’s WR1 as anything but a Tier 1 option at the position.”
