Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile’s Gouri Agarwal on playing an obsessive lover: Huge fan of Priyanka Chopra’s work in Aitraaz

Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile, starring Ayushi Khurana (Reet) and Bharat Ahlawwat (Raghav), has taken a dramatic turn. Kirti’s (Gouri Agarwal) character, who was introduced in the show as a girl next door and an out and out positive character, has undergone a drastic transformation.

Kirti has now become an obsessive lover for Raghav, who will cross any limits or boundaries to make sure Raghav comes back into her life. While the show has been largely about the challenges faced by Reet and Raghav and all the drama in between, viewers are mightily surprised by Kirti’s sudden psychotic behaviour regarding Raghav.Gouri Agarwal, who essays the character of Kirti is quite excited that as an artist she is getting to portray so many layers with just one character.

Gouri, who accepts that Kirti is wrong, also sheds light that Kirti is not a bad person; it is the situation that has forced her to behave in such a way. Gouri said, ‘’Kirti was initially a positive and a chirpy person, however she got betrayed at the wedding by her own groom, Raghav.

Her dreams shatter in a minute. Kirti already dreamed about her life with Raghav and was all excited to enter the new phase, and the sudden shock of Raghav leaving her at the altar and going back to his old love was too much for her to understand and digest.’’

Just like Kirti, in the past viewers have witnessed quite a few female fictional characters portraying an obsessive lover. Gouri stated as an artist it was her dream to play such a character, and how while many actresses have done a fabulous job as a psychotic obsessive lover, for her it’s Priyanka Chopra’s portrayal of Sonia in the film Aitraaz which has impressed her the most. Gouri said, “Kirti’s character isn’t driven by an overtly glamor like Sonia. Kirti’s appeal lies in her emotional depth. But yes, I am glad I have got some layers to enact. Talking about Priyanka Chopra’s portrayal of Sonia in Aitraaz, the way Priyanka acted, said every single dialogue was too impressive. I became a huge fan of Priyanka after watching her effortlessly portray such a complex character in Aitraaz.

She owned each and every frame of the movie. When I saw the film, I dreamt that one day, I will play a character like Sonia. While Kirti is not as psychotic as Sonia, she certainly has some shades of it.’’
