Jets Owner Woody Johnson, Who Boldly Cut Aaron Rodgers From NY, Makes His Feelings Clear on 4-Time NFL MVP

The New York Jets and their owner, Woody Johnson, are not only in a rough patch but also in a rough era that has been ongoing for decades. After making savvy investments across the board, which have enabled the franchise to compile a roster filled with stars, they’re still finding ways to lose games.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the more recent failed experiments at the shot-caller position, and Johnson was asked about the 4-time MVP given the Jets’ situation.

Woody Johnson Gets Frank About Aaron Rodgers Playing For the Steelers

Rodgers spent two seasons with the Jets, from 2023 to 2024, but he didn’t turn out to be the savior the franchise was looking for. He missed the 2023 campaign due to injury, and 2024 turned out even worse when he did play.

After an unsuccessful stint, the veteran made his way to Pittsburgh this season, and things are finally coming together for the first time in a while. The Steelers are at 4-2 heading into Week 8, and Rodgers already has two 4-touchdown games.

Jets owner Johnson was asked about the Super Bowl winner’s recent run. The Athletic writer Zack Rosenblatt posted his comments on X on Tuesday.

Woody Johnson on Aaron Rodgers:

“I never look back. You have to look forward in football. When you cut players they could be Hall of Famers, you just never know. But Aaron is playing great now. He’s in a situation that’s working for him.”

“I never look back,” Rosenblatt quoted Johnson. “You have to look forward in football. When you cut players, they could be Hall of Famers; you just never know. But Aaron is playing great now. He’s in a situation that’s working for him.”

Johnson is keeping a level head, knowing that Rodgers didn’t work in their system.

Meanwhile, New York is still struggling with its quarterback situation. Rodgers’s successor, Justin Fields, started the season looking like the future of the franchise, but his game took a nosedive recently. Since his 45-yard passing game against the Denver Broncos, he’s seen his foothold on the starting job threatened by veteran backup Tyrod Taylor.

However, Taylor has also failed to impress so far, as highlighted by his 2-pick, no-touchdown game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7.

Coach Aaron Glenn is reportedly still undecided on whom he’ll start at quarterback in Week 8.

The Steelers, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back after Rodgers lost a duel with fellow veteran Joe Flacco in primetime last week. However, it won’t be easy, as Rodgers is going up against his former team in Week 8, the Green Bay Packers.
