Join Us This Fall for a Weekend of Learning & Community

While I can hardly believe it’s already September, I’m looking forward to the change in season. Soon we’ll be pulling out the cozy sweaters, getting a butternut squash soup bubbling on the stove, and logging into something I hope will also become a seasonal tradition, Acoustic Guitar Couch Camp—a virtual retreat where campers can join the AG staff and an outstanding lineup of musicians and educators for a weekend of workshops, performances, and community. The best part is that you can attend our inaugural camp from anywhere in the world—all you need is an internet connection and your guitar!

Couch Camp starts Friday, November 7 at 4 pm PDT, when John Leventhal will give our keynote address, followed by an interactive Q&A moderated by Isa Burke. Then it’s time to share a song with fellow campers at our Community Open Mic.

We’ll reconnect Saturday morning for coffee and to tune up (or down—our first workshop explores drop D!) It’s going to be an action-packed day of workshops, prize giveaways*, and some surprise special guests.

Here’s the lineup (start times are presented in Pacific Time):

10 am: Arranging in Dropped-D with Mary Flower

11 am: Explore the West Georgia Blues with Jontavious Willis

12 pm: The Magical Range of Nylon Strings with Laura Snowden

1 pm: Lunch and Learn with Adam Perlmutter

2 pm: Get Good Tone with Chris “Critter” Eldridge

3 pm: Take Your Accompaniment Beyond Strumming with Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers

4 pm: Bluegrass Improvisation with Stash Wyslouch

I have a feeling Adam’s presentation on transcribing is going to be so enlightening we’ll struggle to put our pencils down and pick up our sandwiches, but we had to make time for lunch somewhere! We’ll also fit in stretch and bathroom breaks throughout the day, but not to worry—if you miss a beat, the replay videos will be available to you after camp ends.

Last, but not least, we’ll close out the weekend with a sing- and strum-along around the (virtual) campfire. We’re still deliberating over what the song will be—let us know if you have a request!
